New from Michele Paige Holmes, Amazon’s bestselling historical romance author and Whitney Award Winner, comes the Hearthfire Historical Romance, THE PROMISE OF HOME.

As Katie and Collin MacDonald prepare to embark on the most perilous journey of their lives— crossing the Atlantic to Nova Scotia— an ocean away Collin’s brother Ian is seeing the coast of Virginia for the first time.

After a voyage that would have cost Ian his life, except for the courage and timely aid of Elizabeth Campbell, Ian plans to risk the same returning to Scotland as soon as possible, even if that means stowing away. But as Eliza and Ian form an unlikely friendship, Ian realizes he cannot simply abandon Eliza and their fellow passengers to the cruel fates that await them. At the risk of his own freedom, he decides he must do what he can to help.

After a narrow escape in London, Katie and Collin cross the ocean swiftly, with the smaller ship Cleopatra making good time until she encounters a fierce storm near Sable Island. The tempest threatens both the ship and Katie’s fragile health, and their arrival in Halifax brings little relief, but further proof that the dangers of this new continent will equal or surpass the old.

Michele Paige Holmes is the author of eighteen published romance novels and five novellas in the Timeless Romance Anthologies.

She loves history and all things romantic, though the reality of her life is often less so, with piles of laundry to be folded, meals to be cooked, and dishes to be washed. She finds those things blessings too, or evidence of the blessings in her life—her husband, five, mostly grown children, and five charming grandchildren (four of whom reside in her home).

She is married to her high school sweetheart, a true Ironman who considers doing ultramarathons and triathlons fun. The only time Michele logs serious miles is at Disney theme parks, but she and her super-fit husband have been happily married for thirty-five years, in spite of her lack of coordination and lagging fitness levels.

While her husband is out running, biking, or swimming, Michele’s furry companion Sherlock Holmes—a Cavapoo strongly resembling a teddy bear—keeps her company and keeps her feet warm during the cold winter months in Utah.

In recent years Michele has enjoyed traveling to some of the locations she writes about. This summer she will be returning to Scotland to do research for upcoming Hearthfire Historical novels.

First off I have to say that you must, absolutely must read the first two books before reading this one. There is so much backstory and history revealed in the first two books that it might be a little confusing to start off with book three. If you are the type of reader who enjoys reading a series only after they're all published, then guess what, you're in luck because this is the final book. Yay! You can begin reading today! Book two finished off with enough of an ending that many readers could be satisfied finishing the series with that book but this one has the McDonald and Campbell clans leaving Scotland to find a new land of their own.

I enjoyed this one but I think the first two books were my favorites. I love Katie and Collin, and their love story. From when they first meet as youth to when they finally are wed. This story continues on after their marriage and shows the trials they meet as they cross the ocean searching for their people and their new land. But, the bonus of this book is that we get the perspective of Katie and Ian. Who is Ian? Ian is Collin's twin brother. So we've seen a little bit of Ian throughout the first couple books, but now we get to have more of his story and see his true character.

These groups of people are in for a lot of peril, stress, hurt, sorrow, healing, friendship, peace and love. Great conclusion to the series and a series I would recommend reading (and rereading, as I really want to go back and see Katie and Collin's story again).

Content: There is some peril and suspense that I would recommend this series for older YA or more mature readers. It is a read that I would classify as a clean read as there is no explicit sexual content and no foul language. There are a couple murders, some talk about indentured servants and slaves, one character talks about abuse, but nothing graphic.

I received a copy from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

What a great ending to a wonderful trilogy. You HAVE to read Yesterday's Promise and A Promise for Tomorrow first. This book picks up where A Promise for Tomorrow left off, but the chapters alternate between Katie's story and Ian's (Collin's twin brother) story.

Katie and Collin are in England to visit her sister, Catherine, before they sail to The Colonies. They come away from the visit with the added responsibility to care for Katie's much younger brother, Timothy. While the rest of their clans (the Campbells and MacDonalds) sail to the Colonies, Katie, Ian and Timothy have changed their destination to Halifax, Nova Scotia, because of the painting Katie did months before from her vision. Back then, it was a rough journey to travel the Atlantic, but Katie has an even rougher time because she's pregnant. Before they arrive in Halifax, tragedy befalls them, and Collin is afraid he's going to lose her.

Meanwhile on the Ulysses, which is bound for Portsmouth, Virginia, Ian is near death. Elizabeth Campbell (Eliza) has hidden him in the hold of the ship and is trying to nurse him back to health. Luckily, she thinks he's Collin or she probably would've let him die, as she was well aware of Ian MacDonald's misdeeds and reputation.

Because of Eliza, Ian tries to change from being a man who only looks out for himself, not worrying about others (thanks to being partially raised by the Munro clan). As we all know changing bad habits is never easy but Ian succeeds because of his love for Eliza. There's a case of mistaken identity involving Collin (they think he's Ian) and Ian and both clans have to work together in order to save him from gallows.

This book has it all--love, loss, tragedy, redemption, surprises, fighting for what's right, proving people can change, showing prior enemies can work together for the benefit of all. There were a few twists and surprises so sometimes I wondered how it was all going to work out. I don't think it's a spoiler to say everyone gets their happy ending. I was thrilled with the way the author concluded this trilogy.

Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from Katie "what we want is not always what is best." and "We had very literally nothing but our love for each other and the promise of this child and a home in new land. In that moment I was certainly the happiest woman alive."

I have been anxiously awaiting this book- this final book in this series- for months. It feels like a lot longer! ha. First and foremost, you must read this series in order. This book will not make sense or feel right if you don't read the others first. I promise you will be glad if you do. If you haven't read the first book, now is an excellent time to start as the series is now finished. No waiting in between books!

It was so good to be back with Katie and Collin again. I have missed them. The first two books in this series were SO, so good. I fell in love with both Katie and Collin there and in this book I was longing for that happily ever after for them. There were so many sweet moments between them in this book but the road has been so long and so difficult. Included in this book was the alternate viewpoint of Ian, Collin's brother. He is an interesting character and it was good to see and feel his take on past events as he tries to reconcile that with the present. I kind of wish he could have had his own book so his relationships could have developed in a similar way to Katie and Collin's. But still, it was good.

While I really enjoyed this book, I felt more connected to the first two in the series. I'm not sure why but this one felt a little different to me. It was still good and I am completely satisfied by the ending. This is a series I would love to read again all the way through.

Content: clean, some danger and peril.

I have really loved this series with its twists and turns, amazing setting, and vibrant characters. I was satisfied at the conclusion of book two, but thrilled that we would continue the story with the journey to America. This third book was different in that we get not only Katie's perspective, but also Ian's. I loved seeing the changes that Ian made as he turned back to the teachings of his father and influence of his brother Colin, but I felt like it happened so fast, including his feelings for Eliza. I wish there had been more development there like there was for Katie and Colin in the first book. Katie has a pretty rough time on the ship but there are also sweet moments between her and Colin that demonstrate the depth of their love and devotion. Katie's brother Timothy is a fun addition to the cast, as well as Eliza and the coopers that Ian works with. Katie's gift of sight comes into play and helps prepare them for their future home. Mistaken identity between Ian and Colin create a conflict that draws them into desperate circumstances, and the climax is full of tension and suspense as the Campbells and MacDonalds work together to save their laird. I loved the new unity that blossoms between the two rival clans as they make their way in the New World.

Great finish to this trilogy! I loved finally getting to see Ian's story. The whole series has a great message of love, family, and people coming together to work together for the greater good – something this world could sure use right now.

A very satisfying conclusion to a great series!

Not only Katie and Collin got their happy-ever-after and their forever-home, but also Ian, Collin's twin brother, got his redemption and his happy ending too.

Plenty of problems still abound, of course. I liked the new characters as well, Timothy and Eliza.

Overall, an excellent series that I wholeheartedly recommend.

The Promise of Home is the third book in this series. Having read all three, I highly recommend reading the previous books before reading this one. I came to love many of the characters in this book, particularly Collin and Katie, in the two previous novels. This story follows them across the Atlantic in search of a new home. The book is a change from the earlier ones in format somewhat. Where, in the first two, the beginning of each chapter was a section from young Collin’s perspective and the remainder of the chapter was from Katie’s, in this the chapters alternate from Katie’s story to Ian’s (Collin’s brother who they’re going to look for). There is happiness and sorrow, interesting plot twists, and ultimately, a very happy ending. There was a point about half way through the book where it almost lost me, because Katie seemed to be acting like a different character. Katie and Collin’s love story, as told in the first two novels, has a nearly (or perhaps literally) supernatural element and connection. After a personal tragedy, Katie seems to have forgotten for her love for Collin entirely, focused on her own sorrow. She was not a self-focused character in the previous novels and this felt like a significant deviation, one that I had a difficult time reconciling with their established love story. However, Ms. Holmes finishes this novel with a satisfying and surprising resolution that left me with the same happy smile as the first two. I highly recommend giving this novel (as well as her sisters) a read.

Katie and Collin MacDonald set out for Nova Scotia, leaving behind their beloved Highlands and hoping they can find a new home and peace with it--and that once they cross the ocean, they can somehow find Collin's twin brother Ian, who, after trading places with Collin, is bound for Virginia as an indentured servant.

Ian nearly died on his voyage--he would have if Elizabeth Campbell hadn't saved him and hidden him away, sneaking him food and care whenever she could. Although she's a member of the Campbell clan, whom Ian has always hated, he finds that his plan of escaping and making his way back to Scotland will be more complicated than he anticipated, because he can't just leave Eliza, and others who were forced into indentured servitude simply for being poor, to face fourteen years of undeserved indentured service. Although he yearns for Scotland, he also realizes it's time for him to look out for others and not only himself.

This is the third book in a series (and you DO need to read the other two first), and it's the best. I really loved the other two books, but this one was even better. I liked being able to see more of Katie's and Collin's story, but also really loved delving into Ian's story and seeing more about what had made him the person he is and also seeing him change and grow. Great story with a gripping plot and great characters.

Highly recommend!

This is book 3 of the Scottish Hearthfire series. After waiting and waiting for book 2 and then book 3, I was glad this one finished the story so well. I did need to go back and re-read the first 2 to have a clear recollection of the other members of the clan, but the main characters were easily recalled. I enjoyed moving through the different perspectives of the main characters and it was enlightening to see the story from Ian's perspective and his history. The historical elements were well integrated and helped move the story along. I felt involved in Katie and Colin's story as well as the Campbell and MacDonald clans. I was so glad to see that Ian was a 3 dimensional character and not just a really bad guy.
It wasn't fun waiting so long between installments but it was worth the wait. I received a free copy to review, but liked it so well that I bought it as well.

This is book 3 in this series, and it was excellent. I’ve loved watching Katie’s and Collin’s love story unfold through their arranged marriage Katie is unhappy about to their marriage where they are fleeing to a new world in search of home. This author writes delicious characters that I can’t get enough of (sugary carb characters—ha ha). They’re awesome. The plot is rich like a dessert too, with lots of twists, turns, surprises, shocks, etc. The setting in England and Nova Scotia and Virginia is super well done. I really felt sucked into the story and lived it vicariously with the characters. Bravo for a well-done series that I couldn’t put down once I started reading!

This last book is as great as the other two and ends the series beautifully. The reader gets to alternate between Katie's story as she sails to Halifax and Ian's as he sails to Virginia. There are struggles just like the other two books. I loved the character growth in all three books and especially in this book as the two clans work together. I highly recommend these books.

End of the series, there were a lot of things I liked about this series, a few things that were just ok. Overall good series, one I would probably read again.

Moral Note: Mistreating women, slaves, etc. No language, pretty clean romance.

I read all 3 books in this series in succession and this was my favorite of the 3. A great culmination to the trilogy! I really enjoy historical fiction that is well researched and well-written. And I was recovering from some medical stuff, so this was a perfect distraction to get me through.

I have read many of this author's other books and thoroughly enjoyed them, so I was excited to read these. I enjoyed seeing how Katie's "sight" or special gift was used to help others and yet, it wasn't a magic wand that made her immune to challenges, and that she had to learn how to develop it. For me, that was very relatable as we each have some kind of gift. And I loved seeing her relationship with Collin continue to develop and their trust build over time. And having her little brother Timothy play into the story was great.

Being able to have Ian's story with Eliza develop was great; finding out what turns someone into a "bad guy" and that there is always more to the story. Definitely a story of redemption and hope.

So many twists and turns in the story -- not predictable, which kept me turning the pages to find out what was next. Definitely worth the time and a clean read with plenty of adventure!

What a great conclusion to the series!! Katie and Collin are such wonderful, deep characters. I have loved going on this journey with them. Their challenges and struggles continue in this book, as does their romance and strong love for each other. That’s not the only romance in this book, though. I loved getting to read Ian’s story and know him on a deeper level. Both storylines were full of action, and collided in a great climax. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!

This is the third and final book in a series that should definitely be read in order. It’s a little hard to say goodbye to these characters, but I loved seeing them finally get a true happy ending.

I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.

This is the final book in a trilogy about an English girl whose sister has just married, father has just passed away and has no way of taking care of her step-mother and little brother. She thinks maybe she can sell her paintings to survive. When all of a sudden her life turns upside down as she finds out she is half Scottish and has been promised to marry a Scottish Laird who is showing up tomorrow to marry her.
I loved all three books. I learned so much about Scotland and the Highland clans during the 1760’s. Such a struggle for survival. Our heroine has to keep digging deeper to find the strength she needs to carry on. A clean romance that will transport you to new places and exciting adventures.

In this third installment of Katie and Collin’s story they are forced to leave Scotland and sail to the Colonies. At first I didn’t like this book and had a hard time returning to pick it up. The format of the narration changed from the first two with a new perspective being introduced. I don’t like when authors do that but I got used to it. The journeys on the ships were depressing and long. But once the characters made it to the New World the story became more interesting and less dreary again. This novel was not much of a romance, especially in comparison to the first one, but it was good historical fiction. The first book was definitely my favorite but overall the series was well done and quite the sweeping adventure!

I did enjoy this story and it was great to see the final of the series come out and see what happened to all the characters. The history she gives at the beginning is very helpful. I also liked how it followed the three main characters simultaneously. It was fun knowing where everyone was at at each point. The reason I only gave it four stars was I was never fully sucked into it. With the other two books I couldn't stop reading. I was super anxious for the next chapter and then the next book to come out. I was not as addicted to this one as I was the first two. But still a great read! I was given a free copy of this book for an honest review.

Beautiful story and while it had been a while since I read the first two, there was enough backstory referred to and retold that I didn't feel I needed to reread the other books to get the full benefit. Full of heartache and heart warming moments this was especially hard to read as I was expecting a child and experienced the same thing that Katie did, completely. I won't say more to avoid spoilers. I love the reunions, the touch of paranormal, the taste of what history may have been like for those in the time period. Clean romance, beautiful story, promises kept, made, and otherwise lived. I really enjoyed this book and the series.

The promise of home ended the series nicely. I wasn't a big fan of the second book so I was a bit worried going into this one. This book did not disappoint. It started with a little repeat of the second book to help get the reader back into the story then took off from there. Unlike the first two books this book was a combination of Collin and Katie's story and also Ian's story. It went back and forth between the characters. It moved quickly and there was a lot of excitement and twists and turns.
The book was clean but did have a few comments about wanting "privacy' to be husband and wife. Just throwing that out there for those who may be sensitive.

clean historical romance

I recommend all three books and they are best read in order to get the full benefit. This third book is full of trials and overcoming. It has a theme of redemption and personal growth.
The author continues the save of the hero and heroine along with the characters from the previous books as they journey into a new world.
There is danger and struggles as well as triumph.
She does a great job of fleshing out the characters and makes each believable. There are some you just love and cheer for… and those that are not .
She does a wonderful job of making the struggle real but attainable.
I enjoyed all three books.

What a phenomenal conclusion to this series. I would highly suggest reading these books in order 1, 2 & 3. I throughly loved this story. Intrigue, suspense, pride & prejudice. You can lose yourself in the this Scottish Highland - American colonies book. The story is so well written, even though it had been quite sometime since reading book 2. The author was able to weave enough of the past to refresh my memory but not be repetitive. The characters are wonderfully complex yet endearing. 5 ⭐️, clean historical romance at its finest!

I loved finally getting to see how the story that started in the first two books ends. This is a series you need to read in order to catch all the previous story. I felt the book was quite long, probably because I wanted to see happy endings sooner. I loved Collin and Katie's story and the many struggles in their journey as well as Ian and Eliza and their troubled journey. All the characters had such strength and fortitude, I kept wondering how they were all going to unite safely again. If you were waiting for the series to end, now is the time to escape in the book!

This third and final book in the Hearthfire Scottish Romance series begins right after book 2. These books really need to be read in order. I have to be honest that the first half of this book was so filled with trials and negative emotions that it was hard for me to read. The second half moved quickly and more than made up for the rough first half. I loved hearing Ian's story and the continued adventures of the MacDonald and Campbell clans.

A good ending to a sweet series, but this one was a little slow for me. I also struggled with Katie’s inability to see what was right in front of her. Of course she did it in the last book too where she didn’t recognize her own husband. For someone who is so smart, she can’t see the nose right in front of her face. I had to dock stars for the sheer slowness of this story. I actually preferred Ian’s story. I’m kind of done with dense Katie.

A sweet wrap up to a fabulous trilogy! This story takes us along with Collin, his wife Katherine (white has the gift of sight and knowing what is to come in the future) and his twin Ian to England, the colonies in America, and Nova Scotia. I love all the Scottish history we get in these stories.
I really took a liking to Ian in this one! There were certain situations that they so had to endure but did it really well.
