Why Muslims Rebel: Repression and Resistance in the Islamic World

Rate this book
Hafez (political science, U. of Missouri-Kansas City) argues that Muslim rebellions are generally not reactions to impoverishment or failed modernization, but defensive measures against predatory state repression that threatens the lives and organizational resources of the politically active. He focuses on Algeria and Egypt, but also compares other examples. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Great analysis on repression and its effects on rebellion. The sections on the Algerian Civil War were especially helpful for my research
