A Roller Coaster Read

This family’s story takes you on quite the ride. The characters are well written and very believable. I felt as though I was floating on a canoe through a bayou. Josephine’s story, from a teenager who marries the so called love of her life, to a single mother who relies on assistance from another strong woman. James has also gone through many struggles, in Korea and America. His love and faith help him,

I absolutely loved this book! Read it in under 12 hours! Being from South Louisiana this story hits a soft spot in my heart. Being able to walk to the places that are mentioned in the story, I can see the characters and the story unfold right before my eyes. The author is able to beautifully weave the history of the Cajuns, life as it unfolds for a young Marine, and vividly depict the small town life of New Iberia that literally makes the story jump from the pages. I can not wait for the next ...more

Great read!!

You've succeeded in do something that I usually find irritating. I usually can't stand when an author switches between characters. I find myself gravitating toward one more than any of the others, but not with yours. Each one of your characters have drawn me in and I'm not disappointed when the story line switches.

Like going home

As I also lived in South Louisiana for much of my youth, I felt a kindred spirit in Evie. C. Marshall Turner has woven a tapestry, a tale of poverty and family, of hope and loss. But most of all, this is a tale of women of great strength and endurance.
