Do You Even Edit, Bro??

When reading the synopsis of this story, I thought this was a book that could really check all of my boxes. Rocker? Check. Brother's best friend? Check. Throw in a little kink? Check, check, and CHECK.

Unfortunately, I felt that the story tried to be too many things at once, and ultimately, fell flat.

The story was underdeveloped, the characters immature and one-dimensional, and having one of the authors pretty much starring in the book as himself cheapened the entire thing. Do You Even Edit, Bro??

When reading the synopsis of this story, I thought this was a book that could really check all of my boxes. Rocker? Check. Brother's best friend? Check. Throw in a little kink? Check, check, and CHECK.

Unfortunately, I felt that the story tried to be too many things at once, and ultimately, fell flat.

The story was underdeveloped, the characters immature and one-dimensional, and having one of the authors pretty much starring in the book as himself cheapened the entire thing.

Sadly, the above-mentioned flaws were not the worst in this book. Instead, the true downfall of this novel is the editing or lack thereof. Since there was an editor credited in the acknowledgments, I'm not sure if the authors simply ignored their advice, or if they need to be demanding a refund.

Either way, the amount of errors in this book are STAGGERING. My untrained eye caught PAGES of errors, including, but not limited to:

- Incorrect word usage
- Spelling & punctuation errors
- ENTIRE WORDS missing from sentences
- A character's name changing from one paragraph to the next!
- The commas....MY GOD, THE COMMAS. There may have been more commas in this copy than actual words. (Yes, I exaggerate, but not by much)

Eventually, the mistakes became so numerous that I began to suspect that a rough draft was accidentally uploaded to Amazon. This copy comes across as amateur in the extreme. Authors, if you like, I invite you to get in touch with me so that I can share examples of these errors with you.

I won't even get into the repeated use of song lyrics without any credited permission from the songwriter. That's just asking for a lawsuit.

This book is the first in a trilogy, and if I were asked for advice, I would recommend that you fire your editor & betas and start fresh for this next installment. They did you no favors on your first go round.

I understand that writing a book is no easy feat, and I don't like to demean anybody's work, but as consumers, we need to demand better. Romance readers are maligned enough as it is, and when we give a standing ovation to substandard work because our favorite hardbody is associated with it, we only serve to perpetuate the stereotype of readers in our genre. I jumped at the chance to read S.I.N. because I can't resist a rocker romance. And that sexy man on the cover gave me a good visual as I was introduced to Diesel. At first glance I thought here's a book by two authors I've never come across before, however I quickly realised who Shawn Dawson was and it is clear that he was the very image of Diesel, lead singer of the up and coming band, Sex In Numbers, just look at the cover and that's your man. Now believe me, while that definitely isn't a bad image to have in your head, I did wonder whether it would work. Was it going to be just a bit too egotistical for my taste? In actual fact it wasn't and i 3.5 stars

Now believe me, while that definitely isn't a bad image to have in your head, I did wonder whether it would work. Was it going to be just a bit too egotistical for my taste? In actual fact it wasn't and in all fairness, I quickly switched off from the Shawn/Diesel comparisons and Diesel became his own character. Yes he was a complete jerk for much of the book, if I'm honest, but I am a sucker for a fictional guy I love to hate so that kind of worked for me.

The band is made up of four members, Diesel, Xander, Gable and Keyser. Lourdes, Xanders step sister, comes to stay with the band at their lake house and it's there she meets Diesel. Her first thought is that he is someone she should steer clear of, especially due to his promiscuity, but Lourdes doesn't think he will even notice her. But how wrong she is, because Xander does notice, but he sees her as nothing more than someone he wants to have sex with and that is something that definitely isn't on the cards for Lourdes.

We know that Diesel has serious issues when it comes to relationships, but I'm still not sure whether that reason, which we do eventually discover, is enough to warrant his manwhore ways. But I went with it and found myself quite drawn to him as a character. There's a little twist in the story, which I did guess earlier in the book, but I'm not really sure where the authors are going with that particular angle or how it came about, so we shall see what happens.

Lourdes was a little more complex. She hides behind black baggy clothes, wearing thick dark make up and has an aversion to men in general, but for me her journey and transisitions in this book didn't feel believable. One minute she won't even wear a swimsuit, even in the scorching hot heat and then after a quick word from her friend she's suddenly wearing clothes that show cleavage and barely cover anything. We do learn that the events leading to Lourdes' issues are pretty serious, so I would loved to have felt more emotion from that.

I cannot write this review without mentioning a little pet hate of mine. Now whilst this is more than likely a personal issue of mine and may not be a problem for some people, I have a distinct problem with using terms such as 'cray cray'.

Now whilst I felt a distinct lack of emotion from particular events, I did feel that a lot of time and content was taken up detailing what I can only class as trivial things, such as how Diesel and Lourdes are cooking Chicken Cacciatore. The show Elementary features a lot and it is clear that one or both of the authors are a fan of the show. The full name of the bike Ducati Multistrada 1200 S isn't necessary and I feel not something someone would say to someone who knew nothing about motorbikes. I also don't need to know specifics of someone's food order at a restaurant, although I'm sure a white pie with fennel sausage, onion, ricotta, and provolone is delicious, to me these details felt like gap fillers and added very little to the story.

I have been completely undecided on what to rate this book, because on one hand there are some issues that I feel let this book down, but I also felt that 3 stars just doesn't do it justice because at the very heart of this book is a very good story and yes I did feel there were some similarities between it and another very well known book about a fictional rock band, although this could just be coincidental. Not because she looks sexy as f@ck, because that is undebatable, but because that in itself was a hint at her ability to submit - her readiness. I totally loved this book!!! It really was amazing!!! The writing flow was spot on and the characters were perfect and it all fitted together for a kickass story! The only thing i didn't like was the huge cliff hanger at the end, but then saying that, i'm now desperate for # 2 so truthfully i would even give the ending 10/10!

3.5 stars.....Diesel, lead singer for Sex in Numbers, prolific man whore, out and out loves himself and let me just mention he is a HUGE douche (he does redeem himself!) What is he hiding and what's the deal with his mate, Sevyn?

Lourdes aka gothic Barbie, sister to band mate Xander and is troubled and I wanted to know why!

Although the whole band has been warned off, Diesel sees a challenge and goes about trying to get in her pants.

Sex in Numbers is book 1 in the S.I.N Trilogy. Seriously this book had me captivated from the beginning and had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what was going on. If you love a Ahole for a lead character you are going to love Diesel. Lourdes and Diesel together is an explosion waiting to happen. Can’t wait for book 2.

Good story, but...

The storyline is good but somewhat thin. The writers need a better beta team helping them with grammar and the flow of the story. Oh, and it has a cliffhanger ending. I’m not intrigued enough to find out what happens next.

Diesel is the lead singer of Sex In Numbers, an up and coming rock band. All he wants to do is sing and have sex with his groupies. He has a depraved mind and a predilection for some really intense, BDSM based fantasies. A man who likes control, he has yet to find the right woman to unleash his secret sexual desires on. Enter Lourdes. At first he just sees her as a challenge, someone who tried to hide her attraction to him, and what guy doesn't like a challenge? The more time he spends with her though, the more she starts to get under his skin.

Lourdes is the sister of Diesel's band mate, Xander. Before starting classes at a new school, she spends the summer with her brother and the rest of the band at their lake house. While there, she discovers an attraction to the seriously sinful Diesel. Though she hides behind baggy clothes and lots of makeup, something she does to push guys away, Diesel takes a deeper look and sees what she tries to hide. At least part of it. He can see that she is keeping people at a distance and determines to help pull her out of her shell. Lourdes has some painful secrets that she isn't ready to share with anybody, but the summer with her brother proves to be a stepping stone in the right direction. A way to begin healing.

This book has some of your typical rockstar scenes and storylines...groupies galore who are all about having sex with the band. Rockers who will have sex with whatever hot girl is around, not caring in the least who sees or if others participate. Commitment-phobe men who are just enjoying the lifestyle even before they have made it big.

Getting into the meat of the story, I wasn't really sure how I felt about the lead characters. Diesel started out very typical and one-sided, but did develop a little over the course of the story. Lourdes went through the greatest transformation. She started out a bit shy and quiet, content to be in her own world, but became more vocal and outgoing by the end.

I'm not sure that I really connected to the characters that much. There was a lot of back and forth drama that drove me a bit crazy. I get that it was added to make for a more interesting story line, but it seemed a bit unnecessary. There was one scene in particular that really made me dislike Diesel. It's a scene I have seen before, and it almost made me quit reading the book.

Setting that aside, I am still willing to take a chance on these two. I know that this is an ARC copy and there will be mistakes, but this book needs a lot of editing. I can overlook some errors without it detracting from my rating, but this book had numerous ones, including mixing up a character's name. Aside from the editing, I feel like this book needed more character depth. While there were traumatic issues that were brought up, this book never really hooked my emotions. The other thing I have to note that I really disliked was the way that Lourdes was written. She seemed to come across as more of a dude than a vulnerable female who was trying to overcome her past. Sure, there might be women who say "bust a nut" and throw the word pussy around like it's candy, but based on her description she wasn't what I envisioned. It felt like the authors had a bit of a problem switching POV's from male to female. There was also the use of the same words repeatedly-one being thirsty.

I was a bit on the fence about this book-it was certainly sexy and hot, but I need more in a story. I need a storyline that will engage my curiosity, give me something new, and make me root for the characters. I didn't always feel the chemistry between these two, and I wanted to see more non-sexual interactions. While a lot of this story was a bit one-dimensional for me, I have to say that this book pleasantly surprised me at the end. Any book that can completely throw me for a loop and leave me wondering wtf just happened is a book that will keep me coming back for more.

As this is a trilogy, I expect that some of the issues I had with the book will be ironed out in the next 2 stories. I think that this series has the potential to be great depending on where the authors take things in the next book. I am eager to see how Diesel and Lourdes will come back from that cliffhanger. ...more

I can't resist a rocker story and this was a very good story and it showed great potential for a series.
The cover model was very hot (lol) and it made picturing the lead character very easy.
Diesel is exactly like you would think a lead singer of a up and coming band would be like. He loves attention from women and is a man whore. Diesel however does like a certain type of women as he is a dominant.

Now that's what I call a cliffhanger on steroids!

Diesel is your typical Rock God. Hot, tattooed, and oozing with sex appeal. Being the lead singer in a band ensures that there is no shortage of woman available to satisfy his needs. Groupies, one-nighters, and no attachments are of course his thing.
Lourdes is the step-sister of a member of the band. She's rocking a goth look, hiding behind a mask of make up and baggy clothes. She's not only hiding herself, she's hiding a secret.

I have to go into this review by saying how much of a complete and utter D!ck Diesel is!!! I don't even think that is a strong enough word to describe him. I couldn't earn to him at all and I don't understand how anyone could to be honest.

When I saw who the authors were on this new release, I had to grab it and dive in. I pushed aside other books I was reading so I could get this done. I just could not put it down!

Aside from a few editing issues and a couple of not fully fleshed out paragraphs that seemed a tad off, this book captured me from the beginning. I loved the storyline and the dirty talk. Yikes. First off, I cant even begin to give you an accurate description of all the spelling and grammar errors this book is riddled with. It's crazy. There's almost no abbreviation, which makes the characters sound ridiculous. And the author apparently doesn't know the difference between 'to' and 'too.' If she paid someone to proofread her book, she needs to ask for a refund. There were sentences with words flat out missing throughout the whole book. And the characters? I loved this book, there are twists to the story, lust, changes, and secrets that haven't been shared. Lourdes has her own style to prevent people from giving her attention or at least the attention that is not wanted. She goes to visit her brother Xander for the summer who is in a band Sex in Numbers and her life takes a turn. Brooke is her best friend and tries to help her with her change in her life.

I enjoyed the storyline and the characters & I'm really looking forward to the 2nd book in the series! I received this for an honest review... I have to say that I fell in love with this book from page one.. With saying that I didn't fall in love with diesel he is that awesome rocker that you just love to hate.. I loved Lourdes. These two together are off the charts hot!!! But GOOD LORD that ending... I am gonna need the next one in this series super soon!!!

The story line of this book was pretty good-I couldn’t put it down. However, the editing on this book was horrible and it really detracted from the story.

I’m talking commas everywhere, issues with the timeline, and getting characters mixed up. This book desperately needs a round of betas and editing.

But like I said, other than that, I did enjoy the story. And it totally helps that Shawn Dawson is on the cover and the inspiration for the main character.
