Seeing a snow globe of the Eiffel Tower, Ricky wants to go to Paris with his grandfather to climb the famous monument. After convincing his parents, he travels to Paris and experiences everything from cobblestones to croissants. He sees the gigantic tower up close, and wonders how he will make it up the almost 700 stairs. With encouragement from his grandfather, Ricky tackles the stairs and learns the importance of teamwork and persistence.

We are proud to announce that PAP PAP GOES TO PARIS: And So Does Ricky by Janie Dempsey Watts is a B.R.A.G.Medallion Honoree. This tells readers that this book is well worth their time and money!
This is an adorable softback book. From an adult's perspective, the vocab has a few advanced words but the author provides a pronunciation guide in back (very nice!) and the story line explains them while staying in context. The drawings are vibrant and detailed but not too 'grown-up' artsie. I loved the family household dynamics; a young boy, an lively grandfather, TWIN baby siblings, and his active mother and father (who are a great decisions making tag team). The story is detailed and crisp but fun and frolic-y at the same time. I enjoyed it immensely and look forward to 're-gifting" this to someone I adore. ** I won a copy of 'Pap Pap Goes to Paris: And So Does Ricky' in a GOODREADS giveaway sponsored by the author, Janie Dempsey Watts
In this delightful narrative, Janie Dempsey Watts and illustrator Lyn Martin relate the story of a grandfather and grandson making an epic journey to a lovely city in a far away land. Pap Pap speaks French and patiently explains many of the sites to the exuberant Ricky. The pronunciation guide for a few French words will stretch the minds of growing youngsters. The architecture and art of this famous city is portrayed in a way to delight both reader and listener. The book will make a great read aloud work for younger listeners and older readers will delight in its joyous simplicity as well.
Merci Beaucoup to Janie Dempsey Watts for writing this story! I purchased this book from the author at the Northwest Georgia Writers Conference. Her vibrant personality comes through the narration of this story and is matched by the illustrations throughout. I have ordered a second copy to give to my niece that wants to go to Paris. The book is a great prep for a trip to Paris as it includes several French phrases with a pronunciation guide in the back of the book, historical sites to look for, and unique things that Parisians love. All of these are weaved into a sweet story about a grandfather and his grandson taking the trip of a lifetime. Watts delivers a number of poignant moments in the story, and she offers a fun way of merging the educational with the entertaining. I recommend this book for any family with young children planning a trip to Paris, or anyone who wants to know more about the city.
