At long last, a fresh take on color! Jesse and Joe, stylists to the stars and fashion consultants on The Oprah Winfrey Show reveal their secrets for finding personalized palettes for each individual woman's coloring. No longer will redheads be relegated to earthtones. No longer will women of color assume they look good only in bright colors. Instead, Jesse and Joe offer 20 highly personalized colortypes to choose from. Using quizzes, questionnaires, hundreds of photos, color swatches, before-and-after shots, and photos of celebrity style icons, they make it easy for any woman to determine her best colors, brighten her look, and leave a lasting impression.
If you remember the old spring-summer-fall-winter color system of the 80s, Garza's star-moon-earth-sun system is pretty much the same thing, only more confusing. I found the colors I look best in to be from two supposedly diametrically opposed color systems. And honestly, as long as you don't wear a color that looks terrible on you near your face, you can get away with almost any color. And if it's really bad, try a scarf in a color that you look good in. Makeup of course is a tricky business when it comes to colors, but this book doesn't really give you enough information other than to never wear orange lipstick, which even I know about. I guess it's a good book for the totally clueless, but as long as you're not color blind, I think you can figure out what colors look terrible on you and avoid them.
Life in Color is the number-one image book I've ever read about color and style. You can take the Visual Therapy style type quiz online at the Visual Therapy website or take the quiz in Life in Color.
I'm a Chic Star by the way with a Whimsical secondary type. I'm a Star because I have black hair brown eyes and a cool complexion.
This book is a good introduction to the topic with numerous photos of women wearing clothes in their style with their colors.
Fashion does matter. I bought this book after I checked it out of the library. The book is for all women and goes into greater depth and detail than the ordinary Color Me Beautiful seasonal types.
The four types are Sun Moon Earth Star.Yes: you'll find yourself in this book.
While I didn't find the initial "type" quizzes helpful (I'm already really familiar with what colours flatter me most), the style type quiz result fit me to a T! I came out as a Bohemian-Whimsical, with a bit of Avant Garde thrown in, which perfectly describes my style. The different celeb examples were varied and most of my style type examples were very relevant and felt like outfits I would pull together on my own.
This book is absolutely beautiful. It's packed with information, beautiful photograph examples and great interviews with color and clothing trend setters. I'm going back and forth on actually purchasing this book, as it's packed with more celebrity photos than I'd normally like. But, I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a great book for visual representations of color theory as applied to the human skin.
I like that this isn't the typical 4 seasons. It's a refreshing take on finding the right colors to wear, that I prefer to the 4 season typing that are so common.
Great book if you feel lost on what colour's look good on you. Has quizzes that help you match your eye and hair colour to the style you should be wearing!
