Corned Beef and Casualties by Lynn Cahoon is the third holiday novella in the Tourist Trap series. As always, it was fun to be back in South Cove with Jill, Greg, Aunt Jackie, Amy and Sasha.

This was a quick and easy read. The plot centers around the St. Patrick's Day weekend festival being held in South Cove with a parade and plenty of green drinks. Jill really does try to stay out of this one but her curiosity is too strong. However, she only solves the case by being in the right place at the r

It’s St. Patrick’s Day in the small town of South Cove, California. The tourists are having a great time partying. The drinks are flowing and the fireworks are blasting, but one tourist is partying a bit too much and is found murdered.

Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books and More, is shocked to hear of the murder. She had met this tourist only a few hours earlier. Although her cop boyfriend warns against it, Jill can’t help but stick her nose in this investigation. She is determined to find out

Rating is somewhere between 3.5 and 4*. A good short story but with a rather quick, abrupt resolution. Yes, it's a short short/novella but with all the investigative build up it could have dished out a more satisfactory ending, imo. It could have used a little editing, as well. It was nice to visit with the gang again, however. I somehow missed book nine and I plan to get back to it.

I was surprised to find this a novella, it is the third one in a series of holiday stories. The town of South Cove is holding a St Patrick's celebration. Much liquor is being consumed with the rowdy behavior. Jill once a group of five that are inebriated. This party rented bicycles and one is not returned. Later the girl is found dead near the missing bicycle. Greg and Jill worked together to find the killer. I highly recommend this book and series. A recipe is included.

This is a fun, quick easy read. I enjoy returning to South Cove for these holiday novellas. This one is centered around St. Patrick's Day. Once again the town festival doesn't go as planned when a festival goer is found dead on the beach. The mystery wasn't that complicated but these are such quick reads that it works. Also, I'm a bit intrigued by where the author is headed with Jill's character. This is the second novella where she has seen and spoken to someone nobody else has seen.

Easy to read short story that kept my interest from start to finish! I love this series, and I love that this book is set around St. Patrick's Day, one of my favorite holidays. Though not a full-length novel, this story is long enough to develop the plot and include some everyday-life details for protagonist Jill. The mystery isn't too easy to solve, and I didn't guess the culprit until the reveal. Corned Beef and Casualties can easily be read as a stand-alone, but it makes a great companion for ...more

This is a nice quick read as it's very short celebrating St. Patrick's Day in South Cove, California. This is book 10 in the Tourist Trap series and the entire gang is here to celebrate. Jill doesn't even find the body but goes a long way helping Greg and his team solve the murder. Lynn Cahoon puts out novellas for some holiday treats and this one is an exceptional story. CORNED BEEF AND CAUSALTIES is another holiday novella in the Tourist Trap Mystery series by Lynn Cahoon. While I prefer full-length books, I do adore the Tourist Trap Mysteries and the ability to visit South Cove, California even if for a short read. And I’m always drawn to St. Patrick’s Day themed stories... especially since my ancestry is Irish. Protagonist Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books, and More is getting ready for the town’s first ever St. Patrick’s Day event. And what an event it tu ...more

Corned Beef and Casualties is the latest novella in Lynn Cahoon’s entertaining Tourist Trap Mystery series. This is a clean and quick read with well-developed and likable characters and a murder to try to solve. There are inconsistencies regarding the characters from previous books, and the reveal seemed rushed, with few details provided.

This is a quick and fun addition to the great Tourist Trap series. It is a novella that goes back in time to a holiday festival, St. Patrick's Day, in South Cove. Her boyfriend and police chief, Greg King, has asked for extra help from nearby Bakerstown PD to take care of the crowds. Green beer and drinks are flowing and the crowds are havin ...more

I love spending holidays with the gang at South Cove in Southern California! Of course, there is never a dull moment. South Cove’s St. Patrick’s Day festival is in full swing and the crowd enjoying themselves is massive. The alcohol is following, green is a popular color along with glitter, among most party-goers. Jill happens to strike up a conversation with a girl that comes into the coffee shop and learns just a little bit about her.

The audiobook version of this St. Patrick's Day themed novella kept me company on an afternoon walk and it was an enjoyable listen. I'm not familiar with the rest of the series, so I wasn't sure of the significance of some of the relationships between Jill and the other characters, but I was invested in the solving of this specific murder, and I thought the author managed a lot of development in a small amount of space. This novella had a strong start with the first St. Patrick's Day celebration in South Cove. All the usual players were present and the visitors were ready and rowdy for adventure. Jill's Coffee, Books and More was very busy as was boyfriend Greg, policing all the crowds. Sadly, the body of a young partier was found dead at the beach at the culmination of the celebration after the fireworks. This had all the markings of a full novel but didn't reach it's promise. I've read the entire series, and to be honest, I'm not sure why I got this latest book. The series is cute, and I do like the community feeling that you get from getting to know all of the characters, but there are two very fundamental things wrong with these books that make them more irritating in general.

First, these books are about murder mysteries, but the main character, Jill, is a woman who is NOT in any profession where she has any authority to solve crimes. Why create a murder mystery s

Another quick novella from Lynn Cahoon this time working around a St. Patrick’s festival in South Cove. With the crowds getting out of hand and the shop owners having run-ins with the rabble-rousers, an evening call comes in when the body of a young woman is found propped up against the rocks in the cove. It is no surprise when Jill, owner of the Coffee, Books and More, puts the clues together before her detective boyfriend since this is the running theme throughout the series.
