A heartening romance of friendship, second chances, and the healing power of love…

Mackenzie Hart has made a career out of writing about eternal love, so when she finds her perfect match in Hunter Kane, she decides to put it all on the line. Irresistibly charming and drenched in alpha-male swagger, Hunter isn’t just the catch of the town—he’s Mackenzie’s best friend. On

I had an epiphany while reading Promise Me You. A lot of authors do their best to make a story sexy, when I really wish they’d just stick to telling a story first. I’m all for the sexy parts, but first and foremost I want good storytelling. And this book could have been so much better if there was more to the plot and less about pecs...if there was more discussing heartfelt emotions instead of hardening nipples and, uhm, other things.

I have been struggling with reading contemporary romance lately but Marina Adair's latest book Promise Me You got me right in the feels.

It's unrequited + second chance at love romance between a country star & a songwriter who lost her sight and had to regain her independence.

I really enjoyed the heroine Mackenzie. She's very standoffish and stubborn but has a soft center. Loved her. The hero, I struggled quite a bit because he was so clueless but ugh, I personally think he grew as a character so

Mackenzie and Hunter were friends who also worked together, writing songs for his band. But he put her in the friend-zone because she was nineteen and him, twenty-eight when they met. When Hunter met a woman he wanted to marry, things changed. Mackenzie had to let go and disappear from his life, in the hope of being able to turn the pages. She last saw him three years ago, after saying goodbye at his rehearsal dinner. She didn't say why and he didn't guess either.

”A heartening romance of friendship, second chances, and the healing power of love…”

That’s how the blurb starts and it’s the perfect way to describe this story, so I’m using it too. My God, what a ride! I’m emotionally spent after reading this. I didn’t expect it to be so touching, so emotional, so inspiring! EYE-OPENING!

There isn’t much I can tell you about the story, because it will be a pity to use any spoilers, but I can tell you this. You have a very famous country singer as a hero and

I’ve been a fan of Marina’s books for a while and I was absolutely here for a second chance, BFF to more type of story.

I liked Mackenzie and Hunter well enough. They’re both stubborn and loyal, but genuinely good people who always want the best for those they care about. Brody was probably the best part of the story. I love how he handled things and was supportive, even if it meant giving someone a kick in the ass.

Plot wise it was okay. The slice of time felt forced and because everyt

Promise Me You (The Eastons) by Marina Adair
He was her greatest heartbreak. She was his biggest regret. When fate gives them a second chance will they let past mistakes ruin future happiness? Adair is the rarest of authors. She looks at love with a truthful heart and not a jaundiced eye. Promise Me You is not a watered down version of love's power, but a realistic one. Mackenzie waited too long and acted to late, which left her with a broken heart. Hunter is the one that got away. What happen

This is a hard book to review without spoilers, because there were things I liked and things I didn’t, and to talk about either would give things away. But I’ll try and be vague.

There was a fair bit here to like. Both Mackenzie and Hunter are likeable characters and they are very good together. The physical progress of their relationship is slow, but it works because there’s a lot to deal with and they have great chemistry. I loved the music writing side of things and wished there’d been a bit m
3.5/5. My first time trying out this author, and it's not a bad one. Heroine, in love with hero but friend-zoned as they wrote beautiful award-winning music together, he being the front man of a band and she a highly talented composer and lyricist. Mackenzie left the day before Hunter's wedding and reappears 3 years later. He is now a divorced man with his band struggling to get itself out of it's current slump after tasting sweet success previously when they had preferential access to Mackenzie ...more

I think one of the most frustrating parts of this book was how the heroine’s disability is used purely to create romatic angst between the main charcaters. They both had no emotional maturity which made it impossible for me to root for them when I kept screaming about how stupid they were. Not to mention that he hero was a misogynistic prick and he made me want to gag.
A very emotional friends to lovers and second-chance story. Mackenzie is a talented songwriter and has been working with Hunter Kane and his band for a while. She and Hunter are friends and writing partners, but she wants more. Unfortunately, she's waited too long to tell him, and Hunter is about to marry another woman. Unable to handle the pain of seeing him with another woman, Mackenzie walks away from the celebrations and disappears.

Three years later, Hunter is divorced and the band is in tro

So. Here’s the thing. I’ve only read four of Marina Adair’s books, but I’ve been utterly consumed by all of them. So I had high expectations for this newest book. And it didn’t meet those expectations. I felt like this book couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. I couldn’t tell if it wanted to be a deeply emotional story of a woman dealing with a life changing disability and finding love with her best friend, or if it wanted to be a story about two best friends finally succumbing to the fact that ...more

Genre: General Fiction (Adult) , Romance

I love second chance romances, love books about film stars, music stars so I really expected to love this book. It was an OK read, but missed out on that magic spark that makes a book unmissable for me.

I felt for Mackenzie, she's had a tough life and now its got a lot worse. I wouldn't say its a second chance romance though, as first time round it was all unrequited love on her side with Hu

I have read eight different books from this author and this book was something totally different from all of her other books. Different in the describing of the women and the way her body reacted to her male friend and for some of the other descriptions that had not been in her other books. I must say it did not take away from the story and I think I know why she did it but you must read this story. First it starts out with Mackenzie Hart watching her best friend Hunter Kane go through the all o ...more

This is a book which will make you think, and consider how you would cope if your world was turned upside down by a diagnosis, and then suddenly changed forever. Mackenzie is doing the best she can with what life has dealt her, although her desire is to hide behind her front door and just get on with her music making.

Her one time best friend, and successful musician, Hunter is in need of a songwriter, and really wants t
1.5*. Not a reflection on the writing and the idea of it was good, the h who is adapting to being blind is something that really caught my attention but ultimately the romance/friendship didn't draw me in or interest me. So I started skimming about a third into the book, and kept on skimming. I was happy to finish this, it had become burdensome.

I seem to be very into romance books these days, and I really enjoyed this one.
It wasn't perfect and I had some issues with the plot, mainly the miscommunication between Hunter and Mackenzie, but overall this was a sweet read.

Received a free copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
This was cute read but definitely not an Adair favorite. It's on the shorter side and lacks the in depth character development I've come to expect from this author.

This book started off great. I fully expected this to be the exact type of emotional story that I was in the mood for. Unfortunately it never really came together for me. The biggest reason by is that I never felt any real connection between Mackenzie and Hunter. They never talk about anything other the new realities of Mackenzie's life- which is an important topic but not enough to showcase why this couple should be together. I would have loved more about them writing songs together or talking ...more

This was a tough book to rate. It’s so well-written and emotional that you can’t help but keep reading it (I never considered DNFing it), and you really do care about the characters when you’re done. But ultimately, it lacked...something that made me downgrade it from a 5 star read to a 4 star read.

But first, here’s what I loved:
1. Hunter is a quintessential cocky, swaggering musician hero. His confidence and talent make him sexy as hell. But what I REALLY loved about him was that he wasn’t manw

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. From the heartache and heartbreak of the first scene to the love and warmth of the last.

Mac has loved Hunter Kane for years. They have been writing songs together and have a bond that is seemingly unshakable. He's been her rock, held her hand when her mother passed away and helped her back from the brink after to losing her. Now, he's marrying the supposed love of his life and she can't be t

Three years ago, Mackenzie walked away from her writing partner, best friend, and the unrequited love of her life, musician Hunter Kane. Believing it was the only way to save herself from the heartache of seeing Hunter marry, and saving him from her own complicated self, she disappears practically without a trace. So when their mutual friend and manager throws them back together, they find themselves at a bi

3.5.stars. I have read a little of Mariana Adair but not much, however, I really enjoyed this book. It takes place in Nashville with the obligatory singer who has made it big with his band. He also had a “best friend” female songwriter who helped him make many hits. However, there is a twist here with the female songwriter and even though she has always loved Hunter ( big time singer), they have a lot of obstacles to overcome. Her obstacle felt very real, and was not easily overcome, and until t ...more

Promise Me You is the first book by Marina Adair that I read. When I started the book, I felt like I was entering an already established world. We meet Mackenzie and also Hunter and his cousins, among them, Brody, his agent.

3 years later, Mackenzie and Hunter are long due for a reunion but Mackenzie is not ready. Brody, stuck in the middle, will take Hunter's side and "force" the meeting. Even if they have songwritting in common, their world is so different that we don't know if they will make i

This book is about Mackenzie whose life is drastically changed. She turned her back on her old life and just walked away. Now Hunter, who is a famous singer and with who she worked before and who she secretly loved, wants to write an album with her. Will Mackenzie give on or keep running away from all that reminds her of what used to be? This was the first book I read by this author. The pacing was just right and the story flowed well. Overall I thought it was too cheesy and there were severall ...more

I absolutely loved Mackenzie and Hunter. They had a lot of things to work out, but I loved the delicious slow burn of their story to get to the good stuff. This is definitely a book that will pull at your heart strings. It was so much more than I expected and I love that it caught me off guard. I could really feel the frustration and hardships that Mackenzie had to navigate through. Hunter becoming Mackenzie’s support instead of her hero was the best part. A second chance book usually is only about finding you love each other after a first chance. But since neither told the other there feelings they both suffered. Years later the love has not changed but then there is a new factor she is going blind. One of the things that bound them was writing music so her losing her sight has implications all around. In the end, I have to say it did get slow in places and lots its rhythm. But I still liked it.

Fantastic second chance romance! Mackenzie and Hunter are amazing characters. Their story is an emotional and sometimes painful one. Putting the past behind them and accepting the future as it comes, the good and the bad, won't be easy but being there for each other will make it all worth it.
The book is very well written and the story have a nice pace. I definitely recommend it to everyone.
