In the eyes of the Martelle family, Juri is a good girl who can do no wrong. She embraces that image to the fullest for her family. But of course, what her family doesn’t know won’t hurt them. She’s truly a young girl who’s declared to live it up her freshmen year of college. Breeze through it with no worries. But the universes always have other plans in store. Love has this funny way of creeping up on you, unexpectedly. Even sometimes from the unlikeliest places. Meanwhile, they see their family friend, Benjiman Kingston, as a hard head. Benji and Juri’s paths crossing was something no one could foresee, but sometimes the heart wants what the hearts, even if breaks other hearts in the process.
I never really need a trigger warning in books, but I think I could have used one in this one. It was such a great story. I love the love that Benji had for Juri. And Juri was such a brat but she was a likable brat. Lol I feel like I really know these families and I love catching up with them.
It was a nice read but not what I expected. I hoped for a backstory for Benji and Juri to help me connect to their love story. There wasn't really a build up, just a toxic immature young relationship but it was well-written. It flowed despite some irrelevant parts. Great story but I just didn't connect to the characters in this one. There was quite a lot to keep up with too.
So I’ve been rereading all of the Thats All Me since TAMTB came out and I still love these like no other one thing this author can’t do no wrong with is creating a loving family and building in them. I enjoyed Juri and Benjamin just like the rest of the family
This book was so good, Juri and Benji know they worked my nerves 🤦🏾♀️ well mostly Juri. Dominque was annoying, she was a mess and messy right along with everyone She associated with. Arie and Armani was super fake and I wish that Juri would’ve listened to Benji when he kept telling her not to mess with them. I loved how close knit Juri family was. I would like to read about her brother and Daisie. It broke my heart what happened to Baylor😩that was so sad. It’s so much more I can say, but just read this book. It’s very long but also good. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I struggled with whether I just didn't like this one because of the immaturity of the h/H or if the plot wasn't hitting because I didn't want to give a lower rating based off finding it to not be my preference.
After thinking about it, though, I did really like other CL books with characters who were just as young. What made this a miss for me was the repetitive actions and redundancy between the main characters. All they did was have sex, fall out over a misunderstanding or lack of communication, more sex, argue over what she was wearing, go out and shake some, fall out again, have make up sex, argue, block each other, then repeat. Oh, and fight. Like back to back to back. Over and over. It was all so one dimensional, with no character development or growth, and not as well written as the previous CL books I've read. Usually I'm a sticker about reading authors' catalogs in chronological order, but I'm glad I read the NOLA series and some of others first otherwise I would have stopped at this one.
It maybe would have been okay as a shorter book, but the toxicity ad nauseam actually started to get boring even with the traumatic event towards the end. In this case it stopped feeling like fiction, but rather a sad commentary on toxic young love and babies being born into cycles of broken homes.
Benji was a good dad. That's the only thing that stood out with him. Juri was insufferable - childish, combative, contrary, selfish, argumentative, vindictive, and not as bright as first presented. A rebel without a cause with friendly 😼. Yeah, she was only 18 y/o, but she really needed to pick a struggle because all of that back and forth made it difficult to root for their HEA or even care.
I read this one because other books seemed to build on the series and tie the families/friends together, so I didn't want to miss any of the pieces. Unfortunately, Benji & Juri's book didn't help move the series forward, and nothing would have been missed by skipping it.
I don't like giving low reviews, so hopefully things will pick back up in the next book.
This is what happens when the Alpha Male falls in Love with the Alpha Female
I recommend this book to all the women that refuse to be a doormat for a man with swag, money and good D. If you like a heroine that knows her worth and is unafraid of showing him better than she can tell him well Juri is your girl. Benji was a bit illogical to expect Juri to be a good girl and committed while he entertained other options. The sexist ideas about women that date freely was stifling. Benji, Julian and Keem can dabble outside the relationship and still be considered a good catch yet Juri dates a freely and Jamaya is calling her a whore. So unfair but makes for messy and entertaining reading. There are some really painful parts that made me love Juri even more!
Benjamin Kingston grew up across the street from the infamous Martelle Crew, matter of fact, they consider each other family. He’s knee deep in the streets with them, he’s heavy in this game called life and he’s not worried about it…his mind is on his money and his money is on his mind. Benji stumbles upon babygirl, Juri Martelle, considered innocent by her family, in a less than favorable position and her behavior away from home is anything but flawless or filtered. Juri is in college, away from the chastening eyes of her family, and she’s living life like it’s golden…she knows her worth and ain’t messed up with a lil bump and grind…all the while guarding her heart from busta’s that move like her brothers and cousins. Benji finds himself saving Juri from one too many catastrophic scenarios, and now he’s becoming a secret keeper…in more ways than one. Juri is bold, fearless and seemingly clueless to the sheer danger she continues to place herself in…girls just wanna have fun, right?
So what happens when Benji as a young man, notices that babygirl ain’t a baby anymore, she wearing the jello pudding outta dem shorts? What happens when BabyGirl wants to know if he feels what she’s feeling and she ain’t messed up about show and tell…let the cards fall where they may? Can they trust each other with their time, their bodies, their secrets and even their hearts? What does it mean when there are other ties that bind, families that may be torn up in this process, relationships that may become irreparable…is their acting on their attraction worth the cost that they will have to pay? Upon counting the cost, can they indulge and leave unscathed? Is Benji breaking the code? Compromise vs consequences are looming ahead and there’s a caution light flashing…who’s at fault…love or lust? The author piggybacks off of book #1. The execution of infiltrating some of the scenes is a bit choppy, but because of reading them in order, I understood. I am enjoying these characters and their personal storylines. 4.38
Where do I begin. I had to start and stop every few chapters because these characters were irking my nerves!!! Especially Juri! I love a good book that has some sense of extra-ness but I also like what’s realistic and at times I found myself beyond the clouds with the extra! Overall I love the background and appropriateness of the characters with their ages. Yet I’m like come on grow up! I can’t even fathom all of that with a teenager... but then again the story is set in NOLA so who am I to judge. Benji was life. I just wish the author would of developed more of what he saw in Juri because most of the times the elaboration was just on what he couldn’t stand and the back and forth pettiness so I wasn’t totally bought in and I guess that’s why I feel what I feel about the overall storyline. It just doesn’t make sense that he wound up with her other than good sex from what was developed. Another reason for me not 100% loving the story was that it seems at times the storylines and characters got mixed up. Possibly just simply due to grammatical errors and just not doing good oversight.
I’m guessing Daisie and Jigga gonna ver a story because that wasn’t finished at all... all of them could get a spin off which I’m sure was intentionally set up.i hope the next time I meet Juri and Benji they have matured beyond the petty and are thriving
But for awhile Juri was acting immature at some point you have to grow up and if she wants her family to treat like an adult.. But for awhile she was giving off thot tendencies because her actions is quick way for her to get raped or get her name dragged to the mud even though she was not sleeping with none of the guys but she make herself Lil suspect.. And she finds out the hard that Armani and Aria was not her real friends like Benji told her they really envied her Aria was the biggest snake of the two sisters because seems like she was in her feelings because she did want either Benji or Blaze and Juri messed that all not happening because is a true friend to his girlfriend..
It took for Juri to get pregnant before she really starts to think 🤔 and get her mind right and stop playing childish games.
Now Benji I was happy he finally stopped hiding how he felt about Juri and Being a man about it with her brothers and uncles that they were messing around and realized he really do love Juri.. Now on to the next book in this series I'm looking forward to a
I loved me some Juri and Benji. Juri was so feisty but petty. She was deff a tic for tat girly and her age showed a lot. Benji would do things and not even think about how Juri would feel. I wonder if that’s a guy thing lol. They be so dumb sometimes. I loved him tho cause in all reality he was a good dude.
Smfh at Dom. If a man don’t want you keep it pushing doing things out of spite never ends well & you would have to endure the consequences. Jealousy really is a ugly trait to have. She caused this on her own.
None the less I enjoyed this. Now I’m ready to get into Jigga and Daisie.
Overall good read. I have read a few books by this author and I realized I am not a fan of the ongoing storyline from different perspectives. The books are lengthy and I feel like I am reading the same things just told from a different point of view with a little more detail. Also not a fan of all the music lyrics, a lot of fillers. This is just my opinion not taking away from the Author in any way and saying not to read. I was engaged with these characters despite those things. They make me laugh and definitely got on my nerves.
The youngest and sneakiest of the Martelle crew came out swinging. She took down the walls of one of the most ruthless of her family's crew Bench. All that sneaking around until they couldn't hide anymore. I loved with they were able to love out loud. It was good to see how Juri took on the role as step mom to Benji's daughter as such a young age and to maintain school work as well as her pregnancy. I thought tragedy would tear them apart but it only made their love stronger.
Very good read, and full-length enjoyment. I can't remember when I read a good long book! This story was refreshing and fun yet sad at times but kept you on edge. Juri finally grew up and stopped being so naive. Dominique just throw the whole baby mommas away. I didn't see that death coming at all but after finishing the book it was necessary. Benji is the real mvp, even though he a hoe. Loved it to the very end.
Cion excellent sophomore debut. I can see the growth in this book. A lot people except a Nicole Jackson book due to your affiliation together but I enjoy your distinctiveness personally. I will be purchasing to support your journey. A bit on constructive feedback is for you to increase your online presence separate from read a lot be a little more active and engaging with your audience. I know this is a hobby but you have the talent to prosper. Once again great job.
I really enjoyed this novel! There was so much drama!! Dom was so concerned about getting Benji back that she ultimately lost everything including Bayley which was so sad! A lot of things were your typical street lit the name brands, money, sex, parties but I love college was in the future of many. There are a lot of grammatical errors as well which was distracting but a great story! Jigga and Daisie's story sb a good one!
Slowly working my way through Cion Lee’s catalog. Because I’m reading out of order, I was familiar with this couple. But I had no idea Juri was a whole fool outchere. In the beginning I liked her, but she QUICKLY became annoying af.
Honestly they both did. I had to remind myself they were babies. Late teens, early 20s.
But even still… they all worked my last nerve. Yet it was so good! These are some crazy Louisianans and I love it.
I can reread Juri and Benji’s story all day everyday if I could! Of all of Cion’s books, their story will forever be my favorite. I just reread it for the 1000th time and I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time, except when my baby died🥺 other than that, the smile couldn’t be removed! I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it a million more. Benji is my man my man my man!!! They’ll never make me hate them🤣🤣🤣 anytime I see a post or hear somebody asking for book recommendations this is mine! Every time, and if they ask for new authors to read Cion will ALWAYS be mentioned by me💕
This was my 1st read from this author and I loved it. Juri was really working my nerves at some points because she was just so hard headed and I thought she would never learn but Benji was exactly what she needed to help get herself together. I'm looking forward to reading future books from this author.
I really enjoyed this story. You have grown as an author and I really enjoyed this book. Benji was laid back but crazy and Ms. Juri was mature but had childish ways. All in all she was trying to handle situations but had snakes in her camp. I was so hurt about what happen to Baylor cause your momma trifling. Keep up the good work. 👍🏽
These two was to crazy Man can't never take when u do a them. But when u both wrong and misunderstanding. Social media be damn! Rip baby girl Every a** whooping Dom got she deserved, lucky Disloyal hoes keep them close buy don't tell them everything. Now where do the family go from here....
I just wanted to say I loved both books. My boyfriend is from New Orleans so best believe I kept asking him questions on what this and that meant lmao. I enjoyed it Benji is everything 😩😍 I wanted to beat Jiggas ass by the end of this book though smh. Supper happy Juri grew tf up because she was getting on my nerves!! Nothing less you’ve gained a new reader 💚
Another great read! My only concern is on my kindle app it’s says there are 8608 pages but the book stopped on page 8568. I don’t know if I missed anything from the end because the story ended kind of abruptly. Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed and can’t wait for future books!
This book is awesome they missed me off every page I guess but that only made keep them I g to the end the baby didn't have to go though I was waiting on a social media lost of Dominick putting the baby down to dance they both had a lot of frowning to do and those low down dirty so call friend John I had
I really enjoyed this book. I love to see young adults grow past all the pettiness, drama, and immaturity. Juri and Benji had plenty of that but I think Keem and Camilla had them beat. Those two were immaturity at its worst. I love how Benji didn't play with that lah girl Juri, but also how he didn't play behind her.
Cion Lee did her thing in this book. She is getting better with every book. Loved this story of Benji and Juri the heart want what the heart wants. This book kept my attention from beginning to end. 5 🌟
For this to only be her second book she got hellaaa authors beat who’s been in the game for yearssss ! You go go keep pushing out heat with Nicole Jackson by your side you can’t go wrong.
