I received both Nicole R. Morrissey's The Easy Heart Healthy Cookbook for Slow Cookers: 130 Prep-and-Go Low-Sodium Recipes and a small sized slow cooker as 2019 Santa Claus presents (not much of a surprise, in fact, as I had asked for both, but still very much and personally appreciated). And while I have actually not had the chance as yet to try to prepare any of the 130 featured recipes, from my general perusal and skimming of The Easy Heart Healthy Cookbook for Slow Cookers: 130 Prep-and-Go Low-Sodium Recipes, I am thus far quite happily impressed. For Nicole R. Morrissey does for one not simply assume that her readers will be all that familiar with slow cookers as kitchen appliances (and therefore, her detailed and still easy to understand introductory information and how especially slow cooking food is or can be beneficial for in particular heart health is very much an added bonus). And for two, I also very much do enjoy the diverse scope of the featured recipes in The Easy Heart Healthy Cookbook for Slow Cookers: 130 Prep-and-Go Low-Sodium Recipes (as the author, as Nicole R. Morrissey includes recipes from breakfast suggestions to even desserts, and featuring not only meat-based, but also many vegetarian and vegan selections, and yes, with the main meals in particular, ALL of the recipes are low sodium and appear very simple, very uncomplicated indeed to put together, to simply throw the required ingredients into the slow cooker and then have them steadily cook at a low temperature for about six to eight hours).

Really looking forward to trying out especially the soup and stew recipes in the very near future and yes, the only reason why my ranking for The Easy Heart Healthy Cookbook for Slow Cookers: 130 Prep-and-Go Low-Sodium Recipes is three and not yet four stars, is that well, I for one would definitely and certainly want a few more photographs of the end products depicted (as while there are some, I also do tend to feel as though there are not enough pictorials), and indeed, in the introduction, perhaps Nicole R. Morrisey could have and perhaps should have also depicted an illustrated basic slow cooker and labeled its various components (as total neophytes like myself often do not even have a concept of what a slow cooker is and what it looks like, not to mention how to use it in the kitchen).

I was able to grab this book off Kindle Unlimited prior to making the decision to purchase. Please note, this review is for the recipes only. I have not tried any at this time. Written, recipes were easy to follow and made with simple NON PROCESSED ingredients (which I love). Where I feel the book fell short was in providing pictures of the completed dishes. Some of the recipes really felt like they needed it. The other issue I had with this book was I felt it was slightly overpriced for the number of recipes in it. While I went in to assess for purchase, I believe this is one that I will only pull up on Unlimited when I need it vs. purchasing it.

Guidelines for a heart healthy lifestyle. No precooking, just prep and put in slow cooker. Recipes are simple and heart-healthy. Nutrition facts are included. Contents are broken down by Staples, Breakfast, Beans & Grains, Soups, Stews, and Curries, Meatless Mains, Poultry Mains, Beef, Pork, and Lamb, Sides, Desserts. I’m a picky eater and not a fan of beans, spicy foods, few vegetables I will eat, and can’t eat pork but I did find a few recipes that interested me. Nice size book, clear directions, easy to read.

No pictures which is why I knocked it down a star, I realllllly like there to be some pictures even if they can't get pictures of all the recipes into the book. However the book does have a lot of good recipes for healthy ways to cook in your slow cooker. The flavors vary so you will find recipes to fit many of your taste needs, and the recipes will tell you if they are vegan, vegetarian, gluten free or nut free as well. The recipes are sound and written well in a way that is easy to understand. I will be checking this book out from my library and referring back to it in the future!
