I quite enjoyed the two stories dealing with Ponta in the present, but did not enjoy the two stories about when she was a puppy as much. It kind of felt like Satomi Ikezawa had a couple of stories laying around the apartment, and threw them into this book as a filler. This seemed a little awkward to me because all of the other books had never done that. That is why the rating for this book dropped one level.

The artwork is well-done, as usual, and the stories are well-written. I really enjoyed the mystery as to how Mirai could turn into a dog in the first story. Boy, was he ever a spastic little thing. And the revelation at the end of the book that Ponta body is that of an old dog? Oh, no! Is Ponta going to die? That would be horrible.

Overall, Guru Guru Pon-Chan: Volume 8 is another good addition to this series that I have always enjoyed. I wonder what is going to happen to Ponta in Guru Guru Pon-Chan: Volume 9, the final Guru Guru Pon-Chan manga book. Let's all hope that Ponta turns out to be okay. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I rated this book a 7 out of 10.

This volume of Guru Guru Pon-chan was mostly made up of flashbacks, which were very cute, but had very little to do with the main story. I like how the manga-ka always finds a way to inject Mirai into the story, even if he's only just walking through a frame or two in passing. The last chapter in the book really troubled me. I guess it's not healthy to be changing back and forth between dog and human all the time! I wonder if this will end something like the last line of Ai no Kusabi "You may not like it, but some loves can only be fulfilled this way" (meaning: in death). I hope not, that would be a really tragic way to end such a sweet and uplifting story! I'm really rooting for a happy ending for Ponta and Mirai. Only one way to find out what happens next - on to the last book!
