Ponta is a Labrador retriever puppy who uses the amazing Guru Guru Bone to transform into a human girl. She has fallen in love with Mirai Iwaki, who–after the initial shock–has overcome his concerns about her true canine form. So now the two are dating. But everything is new and different for Ponta, and she’s having a rough (ruff?) time with the relationship.
When the Guru Guru Bone stops working its magic, Ponta finds herself trapped in her original dog form, and unable to communicate with Mirai. To make matters worse, there’s a good-looking Labrador who has set his romantic sights on her! When the Lab’s adorable owner starts spending time with Mirai, will Ponta be in the doghouse?
Poor Ponta, things just never seem to go her way. Once again, the love adventures of Mirai and Ponta light up the pages in the seventh installment in the Guru Guru Pon-Chan manga series.
Everything seems to be quite sweet in this book, but there are shades of sexual overtones throughout the stories. I believe I mentioned this in my review for Guru Guru Pon-Chan: Volume 5, but there are instances in this book where I wouldn't want my 13-year old daughter reading this. I don't really have a problem too much her nipples poking out her shirt when she got wet in the pool, but when the bad guy said that she was going to have to pay with her body, in other words - rape her, this made me both uncomfortable and uneasy. Yes, Mirai did save Ponta from a horrible fate, but I just wonder if this book should be rated 16+ instead of 13+. Of course, poor Ponta went into heat again and all of the horn-dogs were hanging around her once more.
Anyway, besides all of the rating stuff, I found myself quite enjoying Guru Guru Pon-Chan: Volume 6. The artwork is light and good and the storylines are interesting and fun. So, if you ever wondered what would happen to a dog that turned into a girl, this is the series you should pick up. Hmmm . . . I wonder what kind of trouble Ponta will get into in Guru Guru Pon-Chan: Volume 7.
Another very cute volume! This one was kind of emotional, especially when the guru guru bone stopped working. But Ponta and Mirai survived their first real fight, so that's great! Now that the bone is not working very well, its sure to cause some more trouble, especially since Ponta's in heat again! I like the drawing style the manga-ka uses in this series, it's somewhat messy at times, but it's also very pretty and cute, and funny when it goes chibi. When I first started it, I didn't think I'd really like it, but I'm kinda hooked - I can't stop reading! Ponta is such a unique and compelling character, and Mirai is a really sweet and kind of perfect male lead character. The situations they get into are fairly outlandish too, and refreshingly original. I really hope everything works out between these two characters, though its an unquestionably twisted pairing, they're just too cute to resist!
