4 stars!

Live coaching sessions with real people facing real problems.

The coaching sessions in this book were interesting and I could find something helpful out of all of them, even if I couldn't always relate to every person/issue. Mel Robbins inspirational and I love listening to her!

My life is forever changed because of this audiobook! I’ve got a lot of work to do! I’m so glad I have this book!

I love Mel Robbin's no-nonsense, tough love, and unconventional style of coaching. I know she's not a counsellor, but this book made me feel like I was eaves dropping on people's private therapy sessions. All the guests featured in this book have relatable problems - addiction, procrastination, trauma, and self-acceptance. And given the nature of these topics, Robbins is adamant about giving a trigger warning before every new section.

Wow, this book has been literally life changing for me. Some people will even notice a physical change, but most importantly during the time i have been listening to this book people have already noticed more subtle changes about how i behave and act, which are of course driven by terrific new empowering thought patterns. #KickasswithMel #neverbethesame #watchoutworld.

I am so glad i bought this audio book so i can come back and listen to the coaching sessions time and time again. I believe i wil

I usually don't pull over to take notes or cry from an audiobook but some of the revelations hit me like a mack truck. The language is profane and blunt but perhaps that's exactly what some of us need to hear. Thank you for kicking my ass Mel Robbins. *I might even make a few tees and mugs as reminders from some of these sessions. Godspeed.

Mel Robbins has gone through with a series of eye-opening interviews with people that have awaiting stories to be shared. I admire Mel's use of her experiences. Because she's been through tough times, she is able to assess situations and make them right.

Somethings I have learned

- People are responsible for the way they react. So if you tell someone the truth, it is not your fault if the other person gets upset. However if you lie, and soon later the person finds out, that is considered to be you

I had seen this listen over & over on Audible and just on regular Amazon ...& i finally jumped on in ... such a great listen ... if you are wanting to help yourself, or at least grow some in your life fixing abilities ...oh yeah ... learn and grow ... i think each of us can learn some. u just have to be open and listen. my only wish would be that it didn't have so much cussing ... but apparently there are a heck of a lot of folks who do that ... who knew ... i was always told it was not ...more

This book was really interesting, I had the e-book and enjoyed being able to hear Mel Robbins and the people she worked with tell their own stories in their words. It added a lot of gravitas and emotion to the book. I loved hearing the real, no bullshit advice and takeaways. I even love Mel's stories of her own past. The only reason this didn't get 5 star is because I sometimes felt like the realisations we exaggerated or solved too soon. What may take other 1 year in therapy Mel solved in 1 ses ...more

I took a long time to listen to this short book. I could not listen to too much of it at once. I cried. A lot.

While entertaining, the author’s approach is full of pop psychology with very little understanding or appreciation of the correlates of trauma, self-harm, suicide, and religious identity. She sends a dangerous message and her biases are rampant throughout. I worry about individuals accepting her biases at face value as her perspective fails to appreciate and integrate real psychological healing.

Mel 5 second rule audio book was really good, I loved it and gave it 5 stars.

Mel is a great motivitional speak, but she is not a good personal coach; which can also be called counselor, because that's what she does to her clients on this book.

I listened to this and got a lot from it. There is A LOT of bad language, but these are coaching sessions with real people who have tough issues.

Updated 6/15/2018 I’m relistening to this because there’s so much to get from it.

I went into this expecting something totally different. Mel interviews/counsels with several people with varying problems and let’s us listen in. I was expecting a follow up to the 5 second rule. That said, I’m glad I listened through because I ended up taking away several ideas to implement right away in my own life. Lots of memorable lines too.

“Shut up, Sharon!” to the negative voice in my head. “You weren’t invited.” “You’re not welcome here.”

Was this an audiobook or a podcast? It sure sounded like one with Dr. Phil + The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck in the mix.

I liked the concept and all, but it was not worth of it being an audiobook in my honest opinion, hence the 3 stars.

I liked how things were brought up .. but, I am a bit skeptical on how Mel can always be spot on? This is my first piece of her work that I have listened to/came across, I will definitely look more into this to form a better idea about her approach. The whole s

I love Mel Robbins and her matter of fact way of talking. I liked the coaching sessions. However, there were things that bugged me about this audiobook. 1. I really found it to be annoying that in between each new person there was the same introduction. I felt like I was stuck in a giant infomercial. How many times do I need to hear the soundbites of people who were competing for a coaching spot and of the folks that she is coaching? It got on my nerves.

So as a nod to #BellLetsTalk yesterday and with a focus on mental health, I listened to kickass by @melrobbinslive . I am quite familiar with Mel Robins as I subscribe to her Take 5 with Mel newsletter. (Take 5 - when you just have to get something done and you are having trouble doing it, just 5,4,3,2,1.... Do it!). This audiobook stepped into some live counselling sessions and basically simplified almost all issues into the previous chapter of your life and your next chapter... Define the issu ...more

Very, very powerful stuff.

I read the first interview and I couldn't help but think of friends that needed to hear this. I had a break, then drove home and listened through the next four interviews. That wrung me out and I left the last interview for later. Life & circumstances kept me in a place where I wasn't sure I was ready to contend with the last interview for almost 6 weeks, but when I got there I found it -- like the others -- incredibly powerful.

In short, this audiobook (better described as a podcast) kicked *my* own ass into rethinking how I live my life. I am a little bit of a self-help junkie. After realizing too much self-help can be rather counter productive, I took a break from books, podcasts, videos, etc. This was the first thing I picked up since. I have never experienced so many "ah-ha" moments; to the point where I had to pull over on my commute to and from work to take notes - and not just notes on interesting blurbs - but n ...more

Mel Robbins has a way of saying things for me that helps everything make a little more sense. In this Audible adventure, she is speaking to many different people regarding their current situations and issues in their lives, whether they have already overcome these issues or are still going through them. Being able to just own our past and not be afraid of moving forward is key to being successful. I greatly enjoyed listening to all of these stories and Mel's advice on how to recognize and overco ...more

Six insane hours of Audiobook - one of the longest I've "read" so far. Instead of being a common audiobook, Mel takes you into her coaching sessions, sharing the real problems of real people she coached.
Trust me, it's absolutely refreshing to get the weight off your shoulders and discover that, yeah, there are people around with the same fears and insecurities that you have. And, of course, to get a valid insight on how to fix what's currently going on while getting to the root of what's caused

This was a good book for listening to in a road. Lots of interesting situations, we'll set up. Mel provides plenty of good advice though all of the explanations of "Mel you rocked my shit!" and other cool-isms felt a little unlikely or at least incredibly tightly edited toward a desired story outcome. Again, fine advice, unique situations, and Mel's insights mostly excellent. Just a bit hard to believe every outcome and achieving THE answer really likely in a single therapy session. I think this ...more

This is by far the most impactful self-help book I’ve ever read (I listened to the audio version, which I imagine is more impactful than the written one, because of the intensity of people’s emotions). I am telling everyone I know to listen to it. Mel Robbins has an amazing way of asking the right questions to get at the nub of people’s problems, to get them to incredible, life-changing, insights. At at the end of each of the nine coaching sessions that make up this book, she reveals important t ...more

Listened to this audiobook. Mel does the narration herself, although much of the book is live interviews with people she chose (out of a nationwide contest) to help. The language is frequently profane (too much for my taste), and some of the people have problems that are so deep they require a professional counselor. Nonetheless, Mel has a talent for getting to the heart of a problem. Many times , she is able to effectively point out that people trap and debilitate themselves. I got a few intere ...more

I've read/listened to quite a few self-development books, but this one had the most impact on me. The people that the author talks to in this book are well chosen and diverse in terms of the issues they're facing. I was able to draw parallels from more than one as I am sure anyone would. Lots and lots of very moving instances that moved me to tears. I am certainly looking forward to making some changes in my life, based on the takeaways from this book. "In fact, if you have any problem that can be solved with action, you don't have a problem." This is probably the biggest takeaway from these coaching sessions with Mel. What she does well is see through the lies we tell ourselves and find an action in everyone's stories to solve their problems. Her routine does show a pattern of going back to the client's childhood, and I'm not sure I'm convinced that all things stem from our childhoods. But, self-reflection is healthy from time to time, and th ...more

Mel Robbins keeps it real and helps others really source their issues and faults, in order to help pave a path back on track. She’s brutally honest, but she has some interesting vantage points. Plus, she can cut through the BS and encourage people to embrace their ugly habits knowing acknowledgement is the first key to turning your life around. I enjoyed these coaching sessions, and hope she will consider podcasts for the future!
