Twice Bitten #1

Life Sucks After You Die

Rate this book
What do you get when you mix an incubus bite with a vampire bite?

A shitastrophe.

All I wanted to do was go to a bar and drown my sorrows in some alcohol, but I had to get attacked by an incubus. Now I'm being guarded by a hunky but oh so irritating vampire (who bit me too) while the incubus stalks me.

Being guarded by the sexy vampire probably wouldn't be that bad if not for the fact my perfect boss has finally noticed me. Try dating while a vampire guards you way too closely and an incubus tracks your every move, waiting to pounce.

Then there's some creepy hunter guy who also wants to kill me.

The sun wants to kill me.

Human food wants to kill me.

Don't even get me started on my family.

Life sucks after you die.

It was interesting enough for me not to DNF it but Danni was one of the worst MC's i have ever read.

So Danni being drunk one night leaves the bar with a succubus and gets turned into a vamp by another dude.....

Half the book Danni was in denial, the other half she was being a gold digger and a insufferable idiot.... She seemed to like Rider more once she saw his Ferrari, yep shes as shallow as a puddle folks...

Bad boy/vamp rider, who seems to have a thing for Danni for reasons beyond my comprehension... is a interesting character... His character flaw for me lies in his tastes...

Interesting concept ... Awfull MC..... Calling her a Heroine is pushing it.

I don't think I have hated a female MC more than Danni. Why does Rider even like her? She is horrible. News flash love, men aren't into you because of your personality not your bra size. Yes her family are the reason she is insecure, but she is also horrible, selfish, annoying and whines incessantly. I really wanted to like this except Danni ruined it. DNF at 40%

This book gives me mixed feelings, it was humorous and entertaining in many places, but Danni was a hard character to like. Her inner monologue is almost painful to read as she has many issues with her self-esteem, which you see why when you meet her family; she is ungrateful and crazy stubborn about believing the paranormal exists. I like Rider, but question his sanity when it comes to his patience with her. I felt the backstory between him and the incubus added a nice twist. I hope the next book has Danni gaining more self-esteem and becoming more likable along with her family slowly dying in a fire.

Not bad, but the FMC got irritating at times with denial and constant push-back. When vampires are telling you not to so something because it's bad or will harm you, they just might know what they're talking about. Just saying. It took a bit too long for the switch to flip in her and her to get on board with things fully. In the context of book 1, though, I am not sure why Rider loves her. Perhaps as the series goes on, sure, but within book 1? I don't really get it. That being said, it wasn't so bad that I'd stop reading the series, but I'm just not sure if I'd want to read #2 right away.

Good Read

Great storyline with a nice take on vampires/incubus.

A powerful vampire and incubus who have been battling for centuries battle over claiming Danni.

Danni is a shallow, complaining and annoying character. It’s the only let down. The book is worth reading but be prepared to be annoyed by her.

Feisty

A really stubborn woman gets hit twice in one night. First by a succubus and then by a vampire. Great start to a amusing story. Enjoyed it very much. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place, this poor woman is extremely confused.

Amazing funny and hot

This book was amazing, funny and fast reading...loved every word. Dani character however was super annoying but it was how she was supposed to be and wouldn't change it. Can't wait to continue series.

Entertaining

It was entertaining and held my interests but had a hard time falling for the characters. There seemed to be something missing.

I came across this in my recommended when I was looking for a quick book to read after reading through an epic fantasy novel. The premise sounded entertaining and I love a fun (and some times spicy 😏) story involving paranormal creatures.

At first I enjoyed the fmc Danni. Her banter with the bar tender and drunken confidence was a good set up for what was to come. Then she falls into Rider's arms, literally, and off the story goes at a very very fast pace.
Danni ends up stuck between a rock and a hard place after she is attacked by an incubus and turned into a vampire.

Less then half way through I stopped caring what was happening and ended up speed reading through the rest of book.

Danni as a character is the biggest negative of the overall story, which is a shame since she is the lead.
Her constant hypocritical decisions through out the story was infuriating to read.
In one moment she's telling Rider that she doesn't need his help learning how to be a vampire despite not knowing anything. The next she calls out to him to help her cause she doesn't know what to do after she gets herself into trouble. After Rider helps her, she gets mad at him for not telling her what to do. Rider calls her out for not taking his advice, she then gets mad at him for "trying to control her". Now rinse and repeat this scenario through out the 200+ page book and you have the majority of the dialogue.

The rest of the characters are fine for who they were. Rider is a tall, dark, and attractive vampire good guy. Ryan is a tall, blonde, and attractive incubus bad guy. Dex, Danni's boss, is the stereotype of a boss of a major corporation that only finds Danni attractive after she wears a push up bra. Gina is a fun and confident friend which I wish we had more of in the story. Danni's family are comically terrible people.

Overall, in my personal opinion, if Danni was a more enjoyable and/or relatable character the book would have been more of the fun popcorn read I was looking for. I know there are more books after this one, which I have not read at the time of this review, so I can't say how the rest of the series plays out. I might see about reading the second book but for now, I'm good with moving onto another series in the mean time.

Snark, wit, a bit of romance, and plenty of action come together in this Urban Fantasy/Romantic Comedy and make for one entertaining read. The book is well-written and fast-paced, making it hard to put down as our heroine comes to grips with her fate while trying to live a normal life.

As far as heroines go, Danni is a bit of a mixed bag. She's full of snark and does speak her mind, especially with the sexy vampire, Rider. However, her self-esteem is almost non-existent. So much so that her inner musings are almost agonizing at times, but once we get the inside track on why she thinks so little of herself, it all makes sense. In this first book in the series, she's in the middle of everything and has an important decision to make regarding her fate, and all the while, she's infatuated with her boss and trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy. If that isn't enough, she also has to deal with attempts on her life and people who may not be all that they seem.

The only drawback for me is that we have more than one big bad in LIFE SUCKS AFTER YOU DIE and as a start to a series, I was surprised at how quickly things were tied up and secrets were revealed. As the first in a series, I would've expected at least a few loose ends and at least one of the major problems to be a continuing story. Considering the conclusion, I can't imagine where the story will go from here. Nevertheless, I did enjoy the read and look forward to more chuckle-worthy humor and edge of your seat action in the next book in the Twice Bitten series.

3.5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟

Danni, Danni, Danni.....oh Danni.

See that’s all I can think when trying to describe the heroine. She frustrated me to no end but was kind of endearing at the same time. Sure she was stupid, so very stupid tbh and ungrateful that it actually pissed hell out of me that I was tempted to skim past any inner dialogue that she had.

HOWEVER if the author hadn’t have let ya know that her self esteem had been taking a battering from her god awful family was actually the reasons behind most of her skewed logic and decisions, I would have actually hated her. I sincerely hope in the next instalment that personality flaw is ironed out and we see some major growth.

That’s right I will be reading the next instalment because I’m genuinely interested to see where this goes.

The main H Rider is perfect, he puts up with the annoying Danni so very well and is another factor to what kept me reading on. Such a gorgeous Vamp!

Now with terms to the story, it went tooo fast, so fast it had at least 2/3books of storylines in one novel. I feel personally that the big Bad could have been dragged out, that there was more time for him to shine so to speak but he got cut down with relatively no effort at all.

I did enjoy this book hence the 3.5 stars and I am looking forward to the 2nd one 😊

Nice enough read.
Like the sass that is present in the book. The writer writes like I want to hear a person reacting, with sarcasm and disbelief to major events (there is enough horror and terror in the world if I'm looking for realism - also....reading about vampires) but there are moments where Danni is behaving like a petulant child that doesn't get called out on and dealt with the same hostility you see her give others.

The sexual tension in the book is good, you get the feel of passion and it's not difficult to understand why but would have liked a little more in those moments. I'm not talking to the degree of E.L.James but a little more than a couple of passionate kisses would have made me up my star rating a little more.

Also want to see more of Danni's family and them being put in the place. The abuse she takes from them seems a little far fetched if that's what she has experience most of the life or adult life. Most people would have either snapped or cut them off. For a lady who is strong enough to decide she doesn't want a man for a master, she certainly allows the woman in her life to be one, which doesn't make sense to me. Her attitude to master would make more sense if there was experiences with her father or a boyfriend that was to domineering but that's not the case here.

Now this is a novel I really sank my teeth into (pun intended!).
Crystal-Rain grabbed my attention straight away with the gorgeous and charming character of Rider, a man that I wish existed in real life. I normally like a bit of a bad boy in my books, however, Rider truly was a gentleman towards every single woman he met (unless they betrayed him), and he was a badass when it came to protected our main character.

Danni is a difficult character to grasp. Sometimes, she can seem like a spoilt and selfish person, but then you meet her family, and you understand why she might act this way, since her family treat her like absolute shit and make her feel small and incomparable to them.
She also acts incredibly ungrateful, as although she was turned into a Vampire by Rider without her full consent (she had no idea what he meant when he asked if she wanted to die or to live), he did save her life, and gave her a second chance, which she never really thanked him for.

Danni is also extremely self-conscious and self-deprecating. She constantly belittles herself and doesn’t see why anyone, especially someone as handsome as Rider or Selander Ryan, would be interested in her. It was frustrating to me that every single time Rider complimented her or said how much he cared for her, she batted it off with an insult.

The character of Selander Ryan was interesting. I could picture both him and Rider incredibly well (definitely fancied Rider more as I prefer dark haired men) and their rivalry led to some very intriguing and clever scenes.

The only issue I really had with this novel is that the final few chapters, where the ‘epic battle’ and resolutions happened, were a little anti-climactic.
I felt like it ended way too easily.

Overall, it’s a brilliant take on Vampires, and incorporating Succubus/Incubus was something I have yet to read elsewhere.
I would highly recommend this book, and I’m super excited to continue reading the series!

Danni has been cursed with a family of mean girls. Her grandmother, mother and sister constantly harp on her inadequate appearance. Subsequently she has zero self-esteem and believes that if she marries her boss, a rich, good looking man, she will gain their respect.

Danni is supposed to meet a co-worker at a local bar but the woman pulls a no-show. Danni decides to get drunk enough to sleep with some guy who has been sending her drinks. She is approached by a drop dead gorgeous man who tells her to wait for him while he removes the creep from the bar. Another extremely attractive male tells her that her drinks have been tampered with and that she needs to leave with him immediately, which she does.

Danni is attacked by her so-called rescuer, an incubus. She is saved from a complete transformation or death by Rider, a vampire. This involves an arduous, painful process which leaves her with both vampiric and succubus capabilities.

Danni has to come to grips with her new reality although she fights it every step of the way. Bad things happen before she finally accepts being a vampire and rejecting the incubus. Oh, and the vampire is apparently in love with her which raises the ire of many who feel she compromises his leadership. Good times.

I enjoyed this paranormal rom-com featuring Danni, a woman who was bitten by an incubus and then by a vampire. I’d not encountered an incubus in my previous PNR reading, and definitely not a vampire-succubus hybrid. The combination was intriguing and certainly presented an interesting array of side-effects for Danni. I enjoyed this author’s take on the process to become a vampire plus the safeguards and training for life as a fledgling vamp. Danni’s stubborn independence and adamant refusal to believe her new circumstances brought her all sorts of problems. Many of which were quite humorous. Not the least of which included attention from a persistent incubus, while Rider, her sexy sire and the local coven master was tasked with keeping her safe. I enjoyed Danni’s journey to her new reality and look forward to the next book in the series. The story was well written with a dry sense of humour that made me chuckle out loud quite often. The characters were interesting and believable. There was plenty of vampire/incubus/shifter action, some family drama, and a budding romance that also packed some heat.

Fun read, definitely will continue series

I enjoyed this vampire take with some different elements. Danni, our heroine, is getting drunk for one of the few times in her life when she's caught up with a vampire, a hunter, and an incubus. She's in denial about these events, which gets her into further trouble.

The plot is fun, somewhat light but also gets deeper as we learn more about these characters. I appreciate the Dean Winchester and Daryl Dixon references, too.

The one thing that bothers me is Danni is so insecure and this is constantly played out, not just in her mind (bad enough) but her insecurity is unrealistically affirmed in real life and it gets old. She finally seems to be getting over it at the end with our hunky hero, Rider. I'm counting on that issue to be gone in the next book. Recommended.

Short review. Mixed feelings do to the main character Danni. I get that she had self-esteem issues which is understandable when you meet her horrible family but when it came to her acceptance that she was hybrid she drove me crazy. When you start burning in the sun it's time to start believing that paranormal is real and that your now one of them. Rider has the patience of a saint and deserves all the rewards for trying to ease her into her new life in the paranormal. Rider and Danni do have good chemistry. I do wish that there were chapters told from Rider's point of view to give readers a break from Danni internal self-esteem monologue.

2.5 stars. Ok, so what I liked about this book was the different take on vampires and succubus. The storyline was ok but was lacking depth. Danni was a hard FMC to like, and was quite annoying most the time. The love between Danni and Rider just happened for no reason or build up, especially considering for like 90% of the book Danni was trying to get with another guy. More world building would have been nice also. This book was said to be 'hillarious' but it just wasn't, I'm not even sure it tried to be. It could have been great if a bit more time was taken to add in some real depth to the story and characters.

Fangy

This first book is great. I loved the way Rider came in and was Danny's knight in shinning armor even though she didn't want him to be. I didn't like the her family treated her like she wasn't worth finding a good. Selander Ryan was a very nasty dark succubus trying to get revenge on Rider.

The whole story line with the vampires and succubus was really good and the connection between Rider and Selander Ryan you would have not guessed at that by reading the first few chapters, it is a really good book.

I definitely will recommend this book to anyone who likes vampires with a little sibling rivalry going on about who loves loves mommy the best.

HAAAATTTEE the fmc.. actual writing could take this to 3 stars

So nothing wrong with the actual mechanics of the writing and nothing wrong with the flow of the story or the world building. One star because the FMC is just that awful. She's so bad I will not be going to book 2. She is callow. The mix of cowardice and having the personal depth of a puddle, I would be able to maybe work past if there was actual character growth or if there was humor or any redeeming qualities. She has zero. Not only is she tsl, but she is entitled about being that stupid and that self centered. I can not say enough bad things about her. Really can't.

Good storyline, but…

I enjoyed the storyline and am interested to know where it goes, however I had a hard time getting through the book. I found Danni to be very hard to like. She was whiny, self centered, and annoying. The story had some places where it didn’t make since, like she suddenly was supposed to have known something no one had told her. Then she’d act as if she had been told, and just ignored the advice. I think the book had potential, just needed some more polishing.

Which by the way thank you Crystal~rain Love for adding my favourite Jenson Ackles to the story, the main character (Danni) and I have a lot in common hehe well I ain’t a vampire but we like the same Jenson Ackles hehe
Oh and also I’m new to your books.

I gotta say it’s actually a sweet romance kinda read even with blood suckers and incubus baddies

What a fantastic read!!! Great and unique storyline and interesting and likeable characters!!! I really feel for Ali, and how low her self confidence is and the way her family treats her!!! Loved how Rider stepped up to help her out with her bitchy family too!!! And oh God, the restaurant scene, haha, I was dying!! You MUST read this story!! I can't wait for the next book in the fabulous series!!!

Vampire wins the girl

Danni Keller is a young insecure no confidence young woman. She was attacked by an incubus Selander Ryan. Then saved by a very good looking old vampire Rider Knight. Selander Ryan wasn't killing her though. Danni has a special blood type that draws incubus's to her blood so he was turning her into a succubus. Then Rider stopped that process by turning her into a vampire. The rest of this story tells how Danni got so insecure when you meet her family and the rest is Selander fighting Rider while Selander keeps trying to get Danni. This story continues in Book 2.

I liked this book, it did keep my interest and my curiosity peaked BUT I would like if it were more steamy, more detailed. When I think of Rider I kind of get a boyish vibe instead of a manly, scary, vampire vibe. I was waiting for some steamy romance but it just didnt get there for me and even in the second book when they finally had sex it was honestly a bit disappointing. But I love the story line and also I love that she's "flat chested" because so am i! Lol.
