Dear Tom,
I'm back on Anna Maria Island... missing you.
But walking down these beautiful beaches reminds me of us and makes
me feel a little less far away from you. And that encourages me as I am writing our story.
Hopefully this will help other people who are feeling our pain too.
I love and miss you every day, darling.

I received a free copy of this book from Smith Publicity for an honest review. This book really makes you stop and think about how you’re living your life. You reevaluate if you are living life as fully as you want, realizing it can be taken from you at any time. This memoir is the story of JoAnn and Tom and their remarkable love for each other. Tom develops ALS and JoAnn becomes his staunch advocate through all the struggles with his medical issues. JoAnn writes about their relationship from wh ...more

Rose Colored Glasses is a tender love story about a couple who endure the painful and debilitating illness of Lyme Disease and ALS from a tick bite in the husband, Tom or TK . What struck me the most about this story was the ability of the author to maintain a positive attitude in the face of such overwhelming odds. Hence, the book’s title is an appropriate descriptor of the courage and passion of the author to overcome every obstacle that comes in her way. In doing so, she provides Tom with an ...more

Jo Ann Simon has given us, as human beings, and as caregivers ( I care for my 94 year old mother who I blame for my love of books!) an honest, gut and soul wrenching, and yet beautiful story of her journey to save her husband Tom from the grip of ALS but to no avail.

Rose Colored Glasses: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Hope (E.L. Marker, 2018) is a powerful presentation of a wife's caregiving journey, and more importantly, love giving journey. In this book Simon chronicles her journey fr

I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book, because I am not normally a fan of nonfiction. However, it wasn't long before this book captured my heart. JoAnn's journey with her husband, Tom, to fight the disease and figure out what was happening was intense, emotional, and an incredible roller coaster. It was a journey through heartbreak, loss, but most of all, love. The love that JoAnn and Tom shared shown brightly in this book. I felt like I really got to know them both.

"Rose Colored Glasses"

Whatever literary genre an author chooses for her work, the goal is always to tell a good story–one with characters fully developed and to whom the reader can relate in meaningful ways. Whether or not we see our own lives reflected in the lives of the characters, the better the story is, the more we will care about them a

I was initially drawn to Jo Ann’s book as I could relate to parts of her story. As I read, I felt that connection more and more. Two points of commonality:
-I remarried later in life, even though I had vowed not to marry again. We were friends first, then love bloomed.
– My husband faces severe health challenges and I am his advocate as we face an often seemingly indifferent medical field.

I found Jo Ann’s memoir to be hopeful, even at her most dire times. Her optimism, her

Aptly titled, Jo Ann Simon's story is not a depressing saga, but a hopeful, inspiring, authentic tale about how love can shine brightly, even in the darkest of the moments. Its message is sure to be healing and encouraging for people who have endured or are enduring similar circumstances. I laughed and cried along with the author, and highly recommend this heartfelt memoir. In sharing her story, Ms. Simon has given a gift of love and healing to others. It’s a reminder that life is filled with bo ...more

My heart hurt for JoAnn as I read her story of loss. I could identify with so many of her thoughts/feelings. I think it's really difficult to rate someone else's life story. However, I did find that the story jumped around in time a bit, making it a bit hard to follow.

This book was so personal. It let me into their lives. It was interesting from a nursing perspective, as well as a relationship perspective. I truly enjoyed the entire book and was so sad when it was over. The writing was colorful and I was hooked into the story right away. I highly recommend this book.

JoAnn Simon takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. This is a story about love in the purest form. Her relationship good and bad is one that you may see in a movie and think that's not real. Reading her story gives me hope that my relationship could be this deep and strong.

Thank you Netgalley and Jo Ann Simon for allowing me to read this book. I highly recommend it.
