Dear Tom,
I'm back on Anna Maria Island... missing you.
But walking down these beautiful beaches reminds me of us and makes
me feel a little less far away from you. And that encourages me as I am writing our story.
Hopefully this will help other people who are feeling our pain too.
I love and miss you every day, darling.

When he first saw me, Tom said that he would spen

I received a free copy of this book from Smith Publicity for an honest review. This book really makes you stop and think about how you’re living your life. You reevaluate if you are living life as fully as you want, realizing it can be taken from you at any time. This memoir is the story of JoAnn and Tom and their remarkable love for each other. Tom develops ALS and JoAnn becomes his staunch advocate through all the struggles with his medical issues. JoAnn writes about their relationship from wh ...more

When Jo Ann loses the love of her life, she continues to feel his presence.
I’ve lost my first husband and my son. I know they want me to continue living life to the full. Jo Ann does precisely this, knowing Tom will always be with her. This inspiring book is full of hope for anyone who has lost a loved one.

Rose Colored Glasses is a tender love story about a couple who endure the painful and debilitating illness of Lyme Disease and ALS from a tick bite in the husband, Tom or TK . What struck me the most about this story was the ability of the author to maintain a positive attitude in the face of such overwhelming odds. Hence, the book’s title is an appropriate descriptor of the courage and passion of the author to overcome every obstacle that comes in her way. In doing so, she provides Tom with an ...more

Jo Ann Simon has given us, as human beings, and as caregivers ( I care for my 94 year old mother who I blame for my love of books!) an honest, gut and soul wrenching, and yet beautiful story of her journey to save her husband Tom from the grip of ALS but to no avail.

Rose Colored Glasses: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Hope (E.L. Marker, 2018) is a powerful presentation of a wife's caregiving journey, and more importantly, love giving journey. In this book Simon chronicles her journey from a divorce

I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book, because I am not normally a fan of nonfiction. However, it wasn't long before this book captured my heart. JoAnn's journey with her husband, Tom, to fight the disease and figure out what was happening was intense, emotional, and an incredible roller coaster. It was a journey through heartbreak, loss, but most of all, love. The love that JoAnn and Tom shared shown brightly in this book. I felt like I really got to know them both.

"Rose Colored Glasses"

Whatever literary genre an author chooses for her work, the goal is always to tell a good story–one with characters fully developed and to whom the reader can relate in meaningful ways. Whether or not we see our own lives reflected in the lives of the characters, the better the story is, the more we will care about them and the more memorable wi

I was initially drawn to Jo Ann’s book as I could relate to parts of her story. As I read, I felt that connection more and more. Two points of commonality:
-I remarried later in life, even though I had vowed not to marry again. We were friends first, then love bloomed.
– My husband faces severe health challenges and I am his advocate as we face an often seemingly indifferent medical field.

I found Jo Ann’s memoir to be hopeful, even at her most dire times. Her optimism, her love for her husband and

For guys we always wonder 'how did a guy like that get a gal like her?' This is what I think of Tom as he initially meets and pursues Jo Ann. We are already cheering Tom on in the early pages & take a liking to him just like Jo Ann did, despite his not so perfect presentation. Jo Ann does a tremendous job placing us in the scenes and taking us along in their journey of love & heartache. She presents her tale with humility as only challenging medical diagnoses tend to produce. I found the first 3 ...more

Aptly titled, Jo Ann Simon's story is not a depressing saga, but a hopeful, inspiring, authentic tale about how love can shine brightly, even in the darkest of the moments. Its message is sure to be healing and encouraging for people who have endured or are enduring similar circumstances. I laughed and cried along with the author, and highly recommend this heartfelt memoir. In sharing her story, Ms. Simon has given a gift of love and healing to others. It’s a reminder that life is filled with bo ...more

Oh! This book means so much to me!

I have experienced so many of the things and occasions the author has described in this book! I read this through Kindle Unlimited, but, I plan to purchase the book. I identify with Jo Ann's spiritual feelings. My first loss was my father when I was six years old. There have been many more losses that followed. I will reread this book many times. It hits home for me. Deeply meaningful. Thank you, Jo Ann, for sharing your life. It aids me in healing. Hugs to you!

I devoured this book. Even though it was heartbreaking at times, it was filled with love, hope, inspiration and joy. I fell in love with their love story, their support system of family and friends and the lengths Joann went to in order to give Tom the gifts of hope and joy. Not only does this book make you realize what truly matters in life, but it takes you on a wild ride of bliss, despair and finding your way out of darkness. Highly recommend!

I loved this book and the strength I found in Jo Ann. Her ability to stay positive and to create a story that delivers such heartbreak in such a beautiful way. Not only do you fall in love with their love story but you feel for her every step of the realization of what they have in front of them. A truly amazing book.

My heart hurt for JoAnn as I read her story of loss. I could identify with so many of her thoughts/feelings. I think it's really difficult to rate someone else's life story. However, I did find that the story jumped around in time a bit, making it a bit hard to follow.
