The book also documents how a young Dutch boy named Gerard Bertelkamp arrived in Adelaide, unable to speak English, and ended up in not one but two major Zoot (with Darryl Cotton and Rick Springfield) and Little River Band (with Glenn Shorrock and later John Farnham). As the title suggests, Every Day of My Life is an intensely personal journey. Beeb Birtles might have lost his band but he discovered many other things along the way. 3.5+ Stars. Nothing against Beeb. Love him, love the hit songs - both the recordings and performances. This memoir is just a little uneven. Kind of like the albums. (Sorry.) I wish the book had gone deeper in some areas and backed off in others. But it's a memoir and not an autobiography, and maybe that's the problem here (for me.) One thing that really, really annoyed me was trying to figure out which "Glenn" he was referring to - Wheatley or Shorrock. There were times when context was not an obvious indicator.

One good thing about the book is how it does explain in sad detail how the name "Little River Band" was lost by the founding members. It's a disturbing story of how badly you can screw yourself over if you let other people handle your business.

I liked this book. It could have been much more. But I accept it as a heartfelt honest record of life that provided many opportunities but someone who provided me with music that I enjoy and admire.
