While providing an excellent overview of the trial of Louis Riel this book devolves into a repetitive exercise in the second half. The first half of the book was for me an excellent read that gave a good understanding of the mechanics of the trial system of the time, and real insight into how the system betrayed Riel and offered him no real chance at justice. The second half of the book beats you over the head with the same points made in the first half, and in most cases needlessly. I gave it two stars for the information and background that it does well.
