Surviving my first semester at Brighten Magic Academy wasn't as simple as I thought it would be.
Being a male was HARD, especially for a girl like me, but who would have thought I'd enjoy the pleasures of being a male, such as learning how to aim my weenie correctly in less than a week? As adventurous as it all sounds, it led me down a path full of trials and a near-death incident I'd never want to experience again.
After four weeks, two of which I was unconscious and recovering from my wounds, I struggled to regain what I'd forgotten, which left a strain in my friendships; or should I say relationships?
With bullies from Maximus’ past returning for round two, Braxton dealing with personal issues he'd rather fight alone, Kage being followed by a mysterious person, and Nixon experiencing nightmares every night, I had my hands full.
Logan tried his best to keep us from tearing at one another's throats, but with the tension of the next set of classes and with expectations rising higher with each passing day, his attempts only acted to add gasoline to the fire. It's Zane's turn to prove himself and help bring us back together.
But with crazy mage competitions, intense familiar battles, and haunting silver eyes that continued to watch my every move, would we even last long enough to find the real culprit of this game?
This book counts towards my RHR Bingo book challenge: “M/M Action”.
The writing is atrocious, the plot full of holes & the series is in need of an editor. However, I just can’t seem to give this series up, it’s illogical. I’d never admit to reading or recommend this series but that’s ok GR will keep my secret. Not sure I'll read book 3 though.
Review copy kindly provided by the author in exchange for a honest review I love returning to this world as this world was my first introduction to the writing of Wilson. This book made me addicted to her writing with an unique idea that fun to read and provides plenty of entertainment. This book returns a little ahead of were left of but things haven't changed instead there still a lot hurt and drama . If you read the first book , you will know the lay of the land. How Jewel /Jinn is trying to live up to the family legacy but had a few bumps along the road already. Well this book addresses what we left behind and more. It's not smooth sailing but it allows to see deeper connections form and Zane in particular show what he is worth as one of the younger guys in the harem.
I like the direction of this book, it focuses on certain guys more and there is a good reason why as it ties well together the first and second book together . I liked how each of the guys had their own chance to get their spotlight and allow Jewel work her magic as whilst discovering secrets and dealing with their different needs. It was interesting how things played out as I didn't expect that direction at the end given how things had been so far. The 'villain' aspect wasn't what I expected this time around though it did leave an lasting impression.
It's an interesting second book and it won't disappoint if you are fan. There plenty to love and there plenty of Wilson tradmark moments that will leave you satisfied. Second semester is going to bring plenty of fun and adventures and these first years are going to give you a treat.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
What an incredible addition to this amazing series! We pick back up after the events that happened in book with a speech form the school about what happened as well as a no bullying policy. Jewel/Jinn and her guys are just trying to put their lives back together after what Zane did as well as the repercussions it caused. There were plenty of secrets and surprises that come out in this book that really bring them all together when it matters. I have to say I enjoyed how the author answered Jewels/the readers curiosity about something in a surprising manner. If you enjoy PNR RH novels then you really have to try this series. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
I honestly think this series just isn’t for me. The FMC is constantly tired and the most common topic is napping. The FMC naps more than Nixon. I usually like the whole boarding school scene but there seems to be hardly any magic really and almost no learning in the plot line. I still feel any relationship between Kane and Jewel is forced and awkward. The soapbox thing is kinda riding my nerves, I mean I thought after the first book we would get past it but no.
Brighten academy, or being one of the top ranked schools or whatever seems completely disorganized and freaking unaware...I mean 10-15 years ago you knew about this bullying threat from this secret organization you know when a student died..and your just now implementing stricter rules? With the headmistress who she is you would think she would have done that a long long time ago. Heck elementary schools have 0 bullying tolerance acts and your just now catching the boat?? I will say that the speech given by Jewel against bullying was very well thought, heartfelt, and quite touching but this storyline is all over the place and not very solid. There are just way way too many plot holes and afterthoughts to fill them in and I just can’t enjoy it.
This is book two of this series and it starts from where one finished. Jewel and her guys are trying to deal with the aftermath of the events in book one, they are trying to keep their group together as well as trying to deal with school and new events that are arising
I love how the writer creates these worlds, you get a real sense of the characters and their environment which the writer really brings to life beautifully. I love how wel the story flows and is well paced and you get to know each characters personalities. There is action excitement danger and drama galore as well as Romance, tenderness and some rather epic steaminess. This is my favourite series by this writer I think and I am so excited for the next book in the series
This is the second book in the Brighten Academy series and it follows on from the first with Jewel/Jinn attending school with her men and trying to mend the fractures in their relationships after the trials of the first book. Not to mention dealing with her memory loss. I loved watching the relationships grow as Jewel finds out more about her men, their families, familiars, and their past. There’s some very hot steamy and accepting moments in this book, developing their relationships as they grow closer emotionally and physically. I enjoyed this even more than the first book. I’m looking forward to the next.
Phenomenal so many questions are answered but the love and steamy science will make you hold your heart at the simplicity of the moments . Best best book
When I started reading this series, I almost put it down. There are some major pros and cons to the series, but overall, I am happy I read them.
Firstly, the negatives ...[the first and second book]... both books started off really slow, and throughout the series I found myself skimming pages and moving on quickly because a scene is too slow, repetitive or useless. The trouble (or bad guys) of the story only counted for a fraction of the book, another fraction was spent learning something new (story progressing) but a very large fraction of the books were spent on Jinn/Jewel recovering, waking up, being exhausted, or her overthinking things and analyzing the situation (whatever is going on or the ‘who/what/when/where/why’ of the plot). There were too many time jumps, for example: two weeks later.. etc. I felt that Kage, Zane and Maxi were left out a lot of the harem and that the focus was on the others. But I understand that balancing them all would be hard. Lastly, I felt the plot (bad guys/problem) is very weak and was not strong enough for the amount (however little) of threat they seemed to pose. Also, Jinn/Jewel is supposed to be super powerful and strong willed, but she was so exhausted and on best rest for so long that the whole powerful strong MC didn’t work.
Now for the POSITIVES !! I enjoyed the focus on developing the harems relationships and the real questions that were asked as if it took place in real life. There was a little bit of instant love, but the characters spent time talking and getting to know each other and questioning each other. It was a nice mix of falling in love and instant love. The overall plot was weak and scarce, but the absence of that focus allowed the reader to really understand Jinn/Jewel as an individual. The gender changing is interesting and unique, and did bring up some good questions, double standards etc. I like how the boys’ families were not left out and every one of their backgrounds were shared and included. Both books wrapped up nicely.
In all honesty, I will not be reading the next book. Reflections of Me (this book) ended perfectly and tied up loose ends on relationships, feelings, etc. The weak plots are not interesting to me, and as everything else wrapped up nicely, I don’t see a need or want to read the next one.
Jinn/Jewel have returned to Brighton Academy for the second semester. Despite being injured, being unconscious for weeks, and needing a long recovery, the first semester was a success. Lives were saved, bullies were stopped. Maybe the cycle that resulted in Jewel's brother's death has been broken. The team is still under stress, however. J/J doesn't remember Zane and his brothers are having a difficult time forgiving him for the choices that put him and Jinn in danger. With Jinn earning honors from his actions at the tower event, he has captured the attention of some Alumni and also believes he's being followed by a mysterious silver-eyed man. It's once again a dangerous semester and when final exams roll around the team finds themselves tested like never before. If they all survive they are well on their way to becoming Mage Warriors.
Reflections of Me continues one of the most unique RH series on the market. The gender-bending is extraordinary. The M/M aspects of this book really heat up. I personally loved it but if this is not your thing, you may want to skip this one. There is plenty of Jewel and team time but Jinn does get action in this book as well. This book has much more information about J/J and what she is. We get more details about Mage Warriors and learn what a key is. The bullying theme is ongoing and we see how the damage done in childhood continues to shape our choices for the good and the bad years later. Noone survives being bullied without some damage!
I really enjoy this series and love the transitions and adaptions J/J encounters. The challenges presented are at times amusing, at times awkward, at times advantageous. Always interesting. My only complaint is the amount of male crying. I am a mother of 5 boys. I know boys cry. Not this often. I'm not sure a chapter went by without one of the guys sobbing. I know Ms. Wilson likes sensitive guys but I found this unrealistic and just too much. Even with all of the tears, however, I look forward to the teams next stage of training. I want more Jewel time with the guys, especially Logan and Brax and more Jinn/Nix time. I'm sure they will fit some fun times into their training schedule!
This has become my favorite series of Yumo's so far. I used to love Crim's stories the most but this series has officially moved up to #1. I love everything about this story and the characters. In this follow-up to Reflections of You, we get to see different facets of Jewel/Jinn and her guys. I liked the expansion of the familiars (hilarious for me because one of them is named after my bunny who is 8 yrs old haha. I almost spit out my drink when I got to that part hahaha). I liked the message about the bullying and about some of the other hard topics that were brought up in this book. I don't get teary-eyed/cry a lot with books but there was definitely a scene in here that brought me back to my mom's tough medical issue. Loved how Yumo spun it and praise her for the way she can suck you into these paranormal worlds and stories and they still hit home for readers. I liked how this one didn't solely focus on Brighten and classes, but still had parts of it littered throughout.
I loved that we get a lot of 1-1 time with them and Jewel or Jinn. AND DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE END OF THE BOOK STEAM!! I love M/M and this made my day! I loved how she wasn't done at the end and shocked them haha. Its hard to pick a favorite, I think I love them almost all equally (Nixon holds a special place in my heart though haha). I hope Book 3 (since I think this is just a trilogy) has enough pages/time to really do this series justice. I am intrigued about how the overall storyline will end and how Jewel and her guys will defeat the bad guys and help rescue a certain man in a gold cape 😊.
Cannot wait for more in this series, I wish it never had to end ❤️. Go pick this up if you want a different take on reverse harem and the group dynamics. Also if you love seeing characters grow with each other and see some amazing powers kick some bad guys booty!!
Spoiler free, as usual! Out of all of this author’s stories, this is one that I find both intriguing, and yet I have a harder time associating with. So many of her stories have characters built on trials and darkness they have to go through, difficulties that, even in supernatural worlds, I can somehow feel like I understand. This series, however, differs a bit. Instead of a gaping maw of dark despair, the character has to fight through the despair of something almost…Worse. The realistic idea of losing her loved ones. To death, and then, worse yet, to a disease that takes away the mind. In the first book, we see the toll it takes, but we also see some resolution – and more mysteries to take the place. In this one, we delve deeper into the dynamic of the characters, learn more about what mysteries drew them all together – we see them all connect even more, on deeper levels than before, becoming so much more than friends. While I consider this series, and indeed this book, to be lighter in overall tone than many of her other series, it doesn’t mean it’s any less; indeed, this book is just as humorous, entertaining, and steamy, and got my blood racing as I struggled not to race ahead in my reading, desperate to know what would happen next. It made my heart ache at times as the emotion came through so clearly, truly feeling everything written as if I were shouting and screaming and crying it myself, rather than simply reading it. And I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens next.
Reflections Of Me is the second book in the Brighten Magic Academy series. In this book we not only get to meet another familiar (awww he's so cute!) but we also learn more about Nixon''s past and the brothers family. After the incident in the first book Jewel and the guys try to go back to normal which isn't easy with the brothers still mad at Zane and family problems arising. Will jewel be able to help them solve their problems and make them see the different sides? Or will one have to leave? Not everyone in the school is a fan of Jinn and many try to get rid of him and challenge him using rhe other guys aa leverage. But they won't know what hit them because with Alice''s help Jinn will show them what they get when they attack her and her loved ones.
I loved this book, it was so heartfelt and Alice keeps cracking me up! I can't wait for the third book in this series and see what happens next
First of all, I just have to say I love this series! The first book was amazing and I was dying for this second one to come out. Even knowing the release date, I could not help myself and would constantly recheck the release date hoping that by some miracle it might release sooner.
This book did not disappoint. I loved every second of it. I love this harem and although Jewel and Jinn are both the same person, you can't help but also see them as almost separate entities. I have not a single gay or bi bone in my body and there are both M/F and M/M scenes but in my honest opinion those scenes were hot and perfect. I fell in love with each of the characters and their stories, which I feel causes you to love those scenes where they can express and show their feelings for one another. The book also addresses a lot of bullying issues and had an amazing speech delivered for it.. This is a series I would recommend for harem lovers. In my opinion it is so well written, it's perfect..
This is a really interesting and exciting series by the talented Ms Wilson. As soon as you start reading you are fully invested in Jewel/Jinn’s life and her guys. I enjoyed all her/his moments with all the guys but I especially enjoyed her time with Brax and of course getting to learn more about Zane in this book. This book has so much depth and great character development, Ms Wilson has really put her heart and soul into this book. There were times of lots of laughs (Brax’s familiar) and then there were times where you could just shed a tear or two. I can’t wait to see what book three brings, I just hope they all get s bit of s break to actually be happy and to be all together. Highly recommended!!
Oh My God! How can this book be even better then the first one?! Miss Savage Uniconr one more time hit the bullseye with this one. I loved the duality of Jewel/Jimm and the different takes you can see in they emotions when transitioning into one or the other and also the way the relationships were more developed and we can see more deep feelings. When I though I had picked a favorite guy boom 💥 another hot scene appears and I am in doubt once more. All the guys are likable and great with his struggle and problems. LOVED the Stronger Kage that was shown to us. In this story we get more explanation in how the magic warriors are and also the development of the plot and answers for some of our questions. The only thing that was missing was more pages of this excellent story.
I’m sorry but you aren’t going to be getting any spoilers from me! This book omg I feel like I just went through a insane roller coaster ride of emotions! First of all this book picks up where the first book left off for the ones who don’t know that. Anyway I lost count of how many times I cried, growled in anger and laughed like a hyena. This book was absolutely fantastic! I definitely can not wait until the next book is out so I can find out what else happens to Jinn/Jewel and the rest of the guys! Yes I definitely do recommend this book but a word of advice if you haven’t read Reflections of You then I highly suggest that you do otherwise you will get confused as to who’s who and what’s what!
There’s many secrets revealed in this book, plot holes that get filled only to leave more questions. The tension between the guys was tough to read in this book. It confused me why there wasn’t a present conversation of Zane explaining his actions at the start of the book. It seemed to fester and everyone kept secrets. Once they started to unravel they all started coming together. It was beautiful to read. I’m sad it was only in the fmc pov, I can imagine how intense the story would have been to read the males povs. I also agree with the fmc, men Should wipe after peeing. I’ve had this argument with my own spouse several times. Lol I can’t wait to read the next book!
I genuinely liked the premise, but the execution was a huge letdown. The book suffers from frequent time skips, plot holes, insufficient detail, and poor editing. It's such a mess. Book 2, which I hoped would improve upon Book 1, actually got worse. The story lacks genre focus: it's neither strong fantasy nor strong romance, and despite being labeled paranormal, that element is barely emphasized.
This story ends up feeling like a YA novel about emotionally immature teenagers. While the author could have focused on the seriously good conflicts hinted at since book 1, the author instead chose to bring up problems that just feel like teenage drama, even though the characters are all in their twenties!
I have like no words for how amazing Reflections on Me is. I have honestly never been a person to cry over a book (or even a movie), but this book had me bawling more than once. The depth of emotion that Yumoyori writes into her books is astounding and Reflections of Me is no exception. From Jinn/Jewel’s speech to his/her talks with the guys, I was a mess almost the whole book. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t all heavy and emotional because there were times that I laughed my bum off, but it was definitely deep and well written . If you like books that have characters with depth, an amazing storyline, and emotion for days you NEED to read Reflections of Me.
This book starts off where Reflections of You left off. Jewel/Jinn are still recovering from the fall, memory is still fuzzy about the incident and Zane. Rules have changed at Brighten Magic Academy in this book. Jewel/Jinn and the guys are spending more time getting to know more about each other. Problems arise and some problems resolved. Some awesome twists and turns, so many emotions. Fabulous second book int his series! So much amazing descriptions it makes you feel like you are actually living the story with the characters its absolutely fa nominal! I can't wait for book 3 to find out what happens next!
OMG FIRST this is my all time favorite series from yumo lol for right now knowing her she put something else out to take the spot but this book was amazing i love the touch of bullying and then bullying for being gay the relationship with the guys get deeper i loved the moments with Zane Kane and brax and of course the last bit with nix and Logan talk about steamy. My favorite parts of these books is watching the relationship develop it not just all steam season there emotional moments time wen the group need one another and not just jewel or jinn for one of the guys the guys have grown closer to each other.. did i mention i love this book so so much perfect book
This book was even better than the first! I loved this continuation of Jewel/Jinn's story. I also like the differences in character between Jewel and Jinn. Still the same overall, but it's interesting to see how their gender can affect a situation. I really liked the familiars in this story as well. The definitely helped add a special element to the overall tone. This story does hit on some harsh issues, as does the first, but I think it is handled in a tactful and respectful way, and it's nice to see such a positive message throughout the series. Overall, Ms. Wilson did an excellent job, and I'm looking forward to the third book.
Jewel is by far one of my favorite female leading characters ever! She reminds me so much of Mulan with an RH twist! I love how this second book in the series just screams Wilson's style. Drama and plenty of twists and turns. It will never be smooth ride with these characters! The drama in this book leaves me with mixed emotions. You don't really know what is going to happen next. I also loved that Wilson took the time to describe short scenes with each individual guy. I really fell for Zane in this book! He showed his strengths in this book and why he belongs in the harem. But there was plenty of sexiness to go around!! I can not wait to read on and see where their journey goes!!!
I enjoyed it to an extent, but to me the characters just felt a little too immature for the age the author made them. To be honest I kept thinking they were maybe 14-15 years old instead of the 21-24 the author put them at. The idea of jewel switching between genders is a good idea but the writing just wasn’t up to the plot in my opinion. It felt a little too fast paced but I guess it could be considered a fast burn. Didn’t particularly like the additives of “heheh” or “choo”, it felt more like something in an instant message or text message instead of a writing.
OMG THIS SERIES IS SOO FREAKING GOOD! Med/Fast Burn with a great story!
Even though it is out of print you can still find it online to read. on Freenovels and EPubbub. If you like (Willow's Forbidden Pack, #1) by Avery Song, you will like this book series too.
FMC is a witch and can change her gender to go to an all-male school she goes to (read for full story) where she finds her men that we learn all about and seriously love all of them.
It was so worth finding the publications online because I've wanted to read this series for over a year. Wish I would've been more stubborn sooner to find the books.
Reflections of Me Life is complicated for Jewel/Jinn! In the midst of trying to acclimate to her new school and having to maintain her male persona she is still trying to build her relationships with her teammates and yet trouble keeps finding her.
Bullies in school are still hovering around her and the Academy and due to her recent accident she can’t really remember one of her men.
Join Jewel and her men as she learns that she can definitely depend on her team to get her through all the challenges and complications of being in an all male academy, while still showing her very feminine skills.
Jewel and the guys are back! After healing, therapy and a much needed break with a trip back home school was back in session. I love the closeness Alice has to Jewel as a familiar, the protectiveness from the guys while they let Jewel/Jinn do what she has to without stifling her. I feel like this series is one focused more on mental health and healing than others from the author. With of course alot of adventure, funny scenes, action and suspense i am used to from these characters! Perfect to read in this gloomy and rainfilled spring weather i have outside my window today. Recommend this book as it improved my mood by alot today!
A lot goes down in this book. Im still really disappointed by the amount of toxic masculinity the FMC basically forced herself to engage in. Like no crying because you’re a boy (thank goodness the one boyfriend cleared that up) or not being able to ask for help and keep all your feelings inside? Ugh. I don’t like it. I also wish it was multi POV because 6 boyfriends is a lot to have without getting their side of the story lol I adore Alice’s character and I’m glad she gets a special friend. There are a few twists that keep the story interesting. I’ll be reading book three because I’m simping for her parents reunion
In this installment Jinn/Jewel is still dealing with strange happenings at school and having debilitating headaches. There are some good surprises and some bad ones to keep Jewel and her guys on their toes. She finds out a little more about her magic and her past. This book focuses more on the guys and the relationships between Jewel and the guys in the group. If you were a fan of Reflections of You this is the perfect follow up book. Gives just enough answers to keep you coming back for more.
Reflections of Me picks up right where Reflections of You left off, so if you haven’t read book 1, I recommend reading that first. Jewel/Jinn is still recovering from the events in RoY and preparing for her 2nd semester. I liked that we got to see a little down time for her and the guys. Then we are right back to the action. The author continues to address themes of diversity, love, male identity, and bullying in this series, and while at times it seems a little too perfect, I like her take on the issues. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!
