Beneath the silver moon . . .
For six months the nightmares have been chasing Liv Lugaru out of her sleep. The same terrifying dream, the same fevered wolves panting after her, their hot breath getting closer and closer as a full moon hangs heavy in the night sky—until she wakes up drenched in sweat, with her fiancé, the brother of the man who broke her heart, gazing dow

A story centering around werewolves, romance, and a battle between brothers.

This short novella had a lot of potential but I would have loved to see it expanded into a full length novel. Many places felt rushed and underdeveloped and I thought there was a lot of areas and characters that would have benefits from it being longer.

So, what did I like about it?
I requested The Howling through NetGalley for a number of reasons; the front cover caught my eye – you’ve got to agree, a half naked man is eye-catching - the story description piqued my interest – recurring nightmares, secrets and a lethal sibling rivalry - and, of course, I love finding authors that I haven’t read before. Unfortunately, The Howling didn’t turn out to be quite what I expected.

First off I think it's really hard to write a good Novella unless it's a space filler in an ongoing series. And I love PNR, especially involving shifters, but I feel like this book tried to cram a full length novel into a very short novella. I think if it had been longer, it could have been better. The one thing I did like is there wasn't a lot of time drawing out the truth of what happened to Sebastian. But everyone,

The Howling is a werewolf romance that is on the dark side and full of danger, secrets and passion. Liv and Sebastian are two very strong, compelling characters that draw readers into their story which starts off with a tension filled suspenseful moment and proceeds to keep readers glued to the pages as they wonder just where the story is going. The romance is sweet with blazing hot passion heating up the pages but the relationship has a major drawback, Liv will have to learn the truth about her ...more

Good story idea, I love shifter stories. I enjoyed reading it, but it needed to be longer and fleshed out.

Ok, this is such a short story I read it in less than 2 hours. The synopsis sounded good. It could have been a good read but a lot of it was really rushed. No time to get to know the characters and feel their pain or frustration. Liv has had a rough life with her parents dying when she was young. Her boyfriend has been missing for the past six months and leaving her and emptying her bank account. His brother Scarbrough stepping up and taking care of her. This sure had the bones to be a good read ...more

2 1/2 Star Review......

As a lover of PNR, especially shifters and vampires, I was excited to read this story of conflict between siblings with some serious romance thrown into the mix. Unfortunately, I felt the story was rushed and underdeveloped, with many areas of incomplete explanations for the reason behind certain events.

There was so much potential to make this a great book, but as a short novella it lacked impact and left me feeling as though crucial parts were missing. Basically, this is

If this book had been the rough outline of the story, it might have been really good. Unfortunately, at this point, it feels as if too much is missing. The storyline is interesting and would have been a nice base but it remains rather flat and undeveloped. The same goes for the characters that remain somewhat one-dimensional. I just couldn't get emotionally involved in their fate no matter how hard I tried. The lack of explanations for some events or circumstances would have annoyed me much more ...more

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Sci-fi and fantasy, Romance

This is a really short read, novella length barely at just under 1000 kindle locations ( typical books run at 3-5K ) and I rarely enjoy short reads. If I'd known before I wouldn't have chosen it as all the reasons shorts don't work for me were here.
I read quickly, but I've a friend who reads just a few pages a night. She loves novellas as she can finish them while still remembering how they starte

Liv woke up from a nightmare and it was the fourth in as many nights, she had dreamt of wolves. A nocturan scene that had started six months ago sporadically but now seemed to have taken over her sleeping thoughts. Scarborough/Scar was in the other room working at his computer making even more money. Liv owed Scar so much and she didn’t want him to know that the thought of marrying him terrified Liv. Scar asked if the nightmare were about him -Sebastian who was his brother and had been Liv’s lov ...more

This was a very short story that throws us into a world where werewolves are real and not unlike those we’ve read about.

Liv is stuck in a relationship she never really wanted. Having been left suddenly and had all her money stolen by her ex-boyfriend, she stupidly accepts the offer of a relationship and housing from her ex’s brother. That should probably have been the first thing she should have fixed, but instead she doubled down and ended up somehow engaged to him. Why? We’re not really sure a

I received a copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving an honest opinion.

Liv's love, Sebastian has left her and taken her money six months ago but his brother has been around to console Liv. His brother has been very good to Liv as far as letting her mourn the loss and has asked her to marry him. She has agreed.

Liv has dreams about a wolf/wolves chasing her. There is more to Liv though but she was never told as her parent's died in an accident before she could be told.

Sebastian did not die

This is a very quick read about werewolves who are fighting over the same woman. It's about Liv Lugaru and Sebastian. Liv has been having the same dream for months and doesn't understand the significance of it or how her life is about to change again. Sebastian was almost killed by his brother around the time her dreams started. Since then he has been in hiding and that left a hole that his brother stepped in to fill in Liv's life. Now he is ready to come back and not only take control of the pa ...more

I would like to thank Netgalley and Kensington Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Holy cow was this short. I feel like I have missed a lot of the story. It kept me interested but I would have liked a little more to it. It felt rushed and I would have liked a little more depth to the book. I liked the characters but I feel like I didn’t get to know them enough to even say that. It has a lot of potential and can I say that it was a good start. I think I would be upset if

Liv thought Sebastian left her and had taken her money. She moved in with his brother and was going to marry him even though she did not love him.

She keeps having dreams about wolves. Sebastian did not die and is watching Liv to make sure she is safe. She doesn't know that Sebastien's brother tried to kill him to take over the pack. They all thought he died. He's finally stronger and ready to take back Liv and his pack. Sadly this is a very quick read Novella. I enjoyed it. I really like when Se

I Give this book 2 Stars

Erin McCarthy is a well known author despite this book, I will read more of her books. This is an epically short story, while I was reading I had this inkling feeling that I’ve read this book before and guess what? The Beast Within Anthology just happens to be a book I already own.
Ever went to a movie theater and you were 10 mins late and you know that 10 mins you missed was crucial? That’s how the beginning of this story starts, you

*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one elses*

The blurb piqued my interest and the first chapter literally had my heart pounding but sadly, everything went downhill pretty quickly.

This was a very short story where everything felt rushed and cramped in. There was no backstory and there were several inconsistencies which didn’t add up.

Liv and Seb had good chemistry but to be perfectly honest, both characters lacked in character development
This is a short novella that honestly has serious potential for a full blown novel. Liv is a werewolf but doesnt know it. She has more ro her than ever possible and the man who has been there for her since his brother left her knows it. Sebastian not only lost the woman he loves but knows that back stabbing and manipulation has happened to his pack because someone got power hungry. Hes back now and wants his pack back but Liv too. The problem ? She is living with his brother. This is a quick fas ...more

I really enjoyed this novella, my only wish was that it was a full length novel, the little bit of story that was there was good.

This book is about shape shifters (used to be my go to genre to read) and back stabbing brothers and the women that one brother loves and the other one wants for himself, and a women who has the ability to see visions of the past and the present and future.

Such a good read, just would have loved more, but all the same worth a read

The Howling by Erin McCarthy is the story of Liv and Sebastian.
Sebastian was almost killed by his brother but now he is back. Sebastian has his goal set of getting Liv back and making his brother pay for what he tried to do.
This was a quick werewolf romance that I did have somewhat a hard time making a connections with the characters.

This is a reprint of a novella that was previously published in an anthology that I read in 2015. I didn’t realize that when I started, however I soon remembered the story. Unfortunately my second reading of it was still “just ok.” There’s really not a whole lot to the story and it’s really rather short.

I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book.

I thought that as usual when it comes to Erin McCarthy novels it is very well written. I just wish that it was a little bit longer so that things feel less rushed and you can connect with the characters a lot more.

Overall not bad just wish it was longer

I normally love reading books by Erin McCarthy and while this book is not my normally preferred genre, I decided to give it a try. The characters were not very fully developed and I found myself not resonating with the story. Part of this is because it is a novella, but I didn't really like this one.

A quick mindless read. The characters weren’t really developed, I know time is limited because it is a novella but no one had much depth. I didn’t feel Liv or Sebastian’s pain and I didn’t feel Scar’s greed. The most interesting things that happened were in Liv’s dreams, a book about that bride would make a good read if done well. The ending was quick and easy, and it fit because there wasn’t any real tension in this book.

Believing he ran off with her money, Liv finds outo there's more to the story Sebastion's brother has led her to believe. Some spots in story that seemed to have jumped or skipped ahead, otherwise okay read.
