I have a huge and rather embarrassing confession to make- yes I know that this is fast becoming a habit. Although I have several of Portia’s books on my ever increasing ‘TBR’ (to be read) mountain, I haven’t actually read one yet. Sorry Portia. However after finishing reading ‘Love & Lies At The Village Christmas Shop’, I now know just what I have been missing and I can guarantee that they won’t be on the mountain for very much longer. I absolutely ADORED ‘Love & Lies At The Village Christmas Sh ...more

Jolly, big-hearted, and delightfully fabulous!

Love and Lies at the Village Christmas Shop is an amusing, heartwarming tale that takes us back to Marram Bay and into the life of the thoughtful, optimistic Ivy Jones as she struggles to keep her mother's Christmas shop alive and out of the hands of the mysterious, yet charmingly handsome businessman who's suddenly moved to town.

The prose is polished and effortless. The characterization is spot on with a cast of characters that are unique, fun-lovin

I had never heard of this author before but now want to read more of her books as if anything like this one be worth it as simply brilliant and hooked from the first page and was so heartwarming and romantic and finding what it is you want from life and about families. It's written so well and fabulous from the first page and really didn't want it to end. Full of Christmas in many ways and so beautiful and amazingly well written. Easily my favourite Christmas book of the season so far - this one has all the elements I love in a feel good Christmas story - a fight to save a business, an open all year round Christmas Shop, a pair of twins with very festive names and differing personalities, a sexy businessman that is cast in the bad guy role, a cheeky chappy playing Santa, and all the festive food you could ever want.

In fact the scene involving the Christmas Cake tasting was hilarious, although I have to agree with Ivy's

I quite liked this christmassy chick-lit but Ivy was too much for me. Especially in the end I wanted to scream at her! So irrational and the same train of thought a hundred of times. Poor Seb is really too good for her. However I liked the setting and the town of Marram Bay and would read something set there again.

Ivy and Holly are two very different twins – while Holly hates Christmas, Ivy lives and breaths Christmas. Their mum has started a Christmas shop that is open all year round and after her death Ivy takes it over – and she couldn’t be happier to work there. However, the shop is now in danger, as the owner of the building is selling up and moving away. Smooth operator Seb enters the scenes here – he wants to buy the place, demolish the shop and build something else there. Moreover, he’s very char

Well this is definitely the most festive book I've read in a long time!

We are introduced to twins Ivy and Holly (See? Festive!) who have differing views on the joys of Christmas. Ivy adores it and has a shop 'Christmas Every Day' that is literally how it sounds selling festive goodies all year round.

Ivy took over the shop from her late mother and also lives on the premises so you can imagine her horror when it is announced that new guy in town, the suave sounding Seb, has bid for the property a

First time that I read a book from Portia MacIntosh and I must say that I really loved this book! One of the best Christmassy chicklit book I have read so far! This very festive book is a lot of fun to read. There are a few situations happening in the book that made me laugh out loud. I also liked the fact how Ivy never gives up her dream to keep her Christmas shop alive even when this beautiful business man wants to destroy it. This book is also about family love. This is one fab Christmas story! I fell in love with Seb and Ivy and really wanted the best for them both. Plus all the mentions of cinnamon lattes and gingerbread truffles have left me very excited about making lots of Christmas goodies!

This is the first book I have read by this author but I have since found that this isn't the first book in this series. Even so it can be read as a stand alone. Now I can't wait to read more!

Great book, nothing better to get you in the mood for the festive season. What could be better than Christmas every day? Ivy is upholding her beloved Mums memory running the Christmas shop in the village. What will happen when hunky Seb offers to buy the site and redevelop it? I won’t put any spoilers in. This is a light hearted fun book full of Christmas sparkle, romance and fun. The author has woven Christmas magic all the way though the lovely will they won’t they tale. Enjoy!

Well this is splendid, what a great way to get yourself into the festive spirit! I will admit that this is ashamedly the first book I have read by Portia MacIntosh, where have I been to let this wonderful author pass me by? Anyway, I will definitely be seeking out more of Ms MacIntosh’s work because this was wonderful.

For Ivy there is nothing better in this world than Christmas, she loves it’s, breathes it and lives it everyday something that she shared with her dear late mother. So it will come

Love And Lies At The Village Christmas Shop by Portia Macintosh is a wonderful feel-good contemporary novel that focuses on the importance of family and memories. Every day we have the opportunity to not only look back and smile but to make new memories. The warm glow that Christmas brings shouldn't only happen just once a year but every day.
The novel is a learning curve and a journey of discovery. "Some people put so much emphasis on things... but at the end of the day, it's just money that get

Absolutely loved this! The whole developer moving into a tiny village storyline is one of my guilty pleasures. I love finding out how different authors handle the problem this creates between two lead characters.

Portia MacIntosh has a flair for writing lovable characters. Even the characters that make a tiny appearance in her stories are memorable. Come on a golden retriever at a kissing booth? Visuals in my head for days, thanks for the smiles.

Snowmance is also one of my guilty pleasures. I d

Nothing thrills me more than having the opportunity to go back to a great place within the mind of an author’s story. Marram Bay is that story. Having read Summer Secrets at the Apple Blossom Deli, it was so much fun to see the town from another perspective, from Ivy’s point of view.

Set within this idyllic location, you get the feeling that those who live in Marram Bay are encased in a bubble, where time slows down and the bigge

I was actually quite charmed by this tale, once I settled in to it and couldn't understand why some of the peripheral characters felt so familiar. I knew that Ivy was new to me, and her twin Holly, but something had the vaguest twinge of deja vu to it. Then I realised we have been transported to Marram Bay before, but a very different Marram Bay to this rather isolated location. I could get on board with an all year round Christmas Shop and I know they do exist but to have one so far ou

I have heard about this writer, but hadn't read any of her books yet. I really loved this book, and after I'd read it, I saw another book called ' Summer at the Apple Blossom Deli' which is set in the same village, and was written before this one. Although I hadn't read the first book, it was easy to follow the story as this book appears to be a Stand alone book. I would like to read more books by this writer.

It may only be October, but Christmas is fast approaching and the holiday titles are appearing on the shelves. I received an early Christmas present of an advanced copy of Portia Mackintosh’s holiday offering – and it’s a little (Christmas) cracker.

Portia MacIntosh has been ‘making stuff up’ for as long as she can remember – or
so she says. Whether it was blaming her siblings for that broken vase when she
was growing up, blagging her way backstage during her rock chick phase or,
most recently, whatever justification she can fabricate to explain away those
lunchtime cocktails, Portia just loves telling tales.
