Hunter Brothers #3

The Heartbreaker

Rate this book
I've waited years for my drop-dead sexy boss, Tristan Hunter, to notice me as something other than his right-hand gal. But though his dog is deeply in love with me, Tristan and I seem doomed to the friend zone.

Until the night we kiss...

It's all a ruse, of course--our make-out session is for the benefit of the two heartbreakers who dumped us--but very real sparks fly when his lips meet mine.

At least...they're real for me.

***
She's my employee, one of my best friends, my dog Luke's not-so-secret crush, and totally off-limits.

So why am I suddenly unable to think of anything but Zoey Childers?

Two days into our fake engagement and I'm dying to take her to bed and show her just how real the heat could be between us. But crossing that line wouldn't just be borderline unethical--it could be lethal to our friendship.

Zoey isn't a casual fling kind of girl, and after the way things ended with my ex, I don't trust my instincts when it comes to love.

I should call off this fake engagement before somebody gets hurt, but how to say "no" to something real with Zoey when every bone in my body is dying to say "yes"?

The Heartbreaker is a sexy, swoony STANDALONE romance.

I just figured out I’d take a reformed manwhore over Hero that “settles” for heroine.

Rafe in 2nd book was a match for Carrie. They matched each other action by action. Neither had an upper hand in the relationship dynamic.

In this, I really should have realised from the blurb how this will be, but I tried to give it a go anyway.

Hero was actually irrevocably in love with his ex. Who was Maleficent reincarnated and was a world class bully to heroine throughout college, and also cheated on hero.

If it wasn’t for his pride he WOULD have taken her back. He was NOT over her and the only reason he didn’t consider taking her back was because he respected heroine and trusted her the minute she said she was her bully and then his libido did the rest.

No, heroine was NOT his choice because she by herself wasn’t enough. Her friendship and sweet nature was NOT enough. It had to be a physical/sexual contact like a kiss to trigger his interest and even that physical act wasn’t triggered by any attraction from his part. It was to save face from his ex.

I’m sorry, I can’t, simply cannot believe the fact Hero was head over heels in love with heroine in space of couple of weeks because he kissed her when she failed to even intrigue the smallest interest for three years.

Heroine started working for hero while he was still engaged, and in love. So it’s safe to assume he had a healthy active sex life, while heroine was in ice.

He mentioned in the first book he doesn’t separate love and sex, and doesn’t engage in casual flings. He was also way too busy to nurse his broken ego and buried himself in work, so I’m willing to give him a benefit of doubt that he didn’t sleep with anyone after his ex and before heroine.

Also the whole conflict was solved way too conveniently and too neatly with a giant sparkly rainbow coloured bow on top.

So, no, this just didn’t do it for me whatsoever!

This book fails me. I have problem with the story. There is no major twist, or drama where I can hold my breath. The story is flat and boring. The characters are beautiful. Tristan is a beta male. He has a big heart and sensitive heart.
Zoey is just as sweet sweet girl.

I wish Miss Valente can bring more drama into the twist.

The only thing I like this book is the courting between Tristan and Zoey. It is a perfect dates for both of them

2 stars.

**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**

Oh.my.gosh. Tristan has just stolen the organ that was beating wildly during the entire book.

It all starts when Zoey and Tristan are at the reception of Rafe and Carrie's wedding when Tristan and Zoey's exes happen to appear, and a freaked out Zoey asks him to hide her from her college bully.

Tristan a bit like Zoey seems to do weird things when he's nervous, otherwise why would he suddenly not only kiss Zoey, but spit out that they are engaged. However it is only after the kiss that Tristan's eyes open up to the wonderful woman that is Zoey and what he has been missing all these years.

Zoey has a wonderful friend in Violet and Tristan has an amazing supportive family, that helps in on a whim and Kim finally shows her true colours to Tristan, not that he cares any longer.

The epilogue is awesome, have never read an epilogue like it and i was truly glad that Tristan and Zoey get such a happy ending.

Another book to go on the must read again pile from Lili Valente.

This story was like a dark chocolate covered strawberry. It was rich and decadent and when you really got right into it, sweet and juicy.

Tristan has had his eye on Zoey for years but as her boss (and friend) he would never want to make her uncomfortable or put her in an awkward position. So why does he pretend that they're engaged and make out with her at his brother's wedding...? Because she needs his help and he's nothing if not helpful. Maybe this time he went a little too far but she certainly reciprocated the kiss and seemed to go along with his crazy plan. Now they just need to keep up the pretense until both of their exs are out of the picture. Simple.

But somewhere along the line they stop playing pretend and realize that they may have just stumbled into a perfect relationship.
I absolutely adored these two as a couple and their interactions were both funny and heartwarming. I would highly recommend this book for those who like to laugh while falling in love:)

Right off the bat I loved Zoey and Tristan because of their love animals and they work at an animal shelter. This book had exactly what I look forward to in a book by Lili Valente. It had heart, humor, and heat. I loved how much Tristan's dog loves Zoey. It's so adorable. Zoey and Tristan fake a relationship because their exes are back in town. What starts off as fake sure soon feels all too real. I loved Zoey and Tristan together. One of my favorite couples. I'm a sucker for a good friends to lovers story. Once I started reading this book I had a hard time putting down to get things done. I just wanted to gobble this story up. This is definitely a book you're sad to see end. I thought the epilogue was too adorable and perfect touch for this book.

Ever since the set up for this book at the end of The Troublemaker I’ve been eagerly anticipating Tristan and Zoey’s story. And it was definitely as fun as I’d hoped.

The very last person Tristan wants to see at a wedding is the woman who broke his heart last year by calling off their own plans to get married. So when Zoey, his friend and best employee, begs him to hide her from her own ex, who turns out to be his ex’s new guy, Tristan does what any person in a romance novel would do- he kisses her and informs their exes that he and Zoey are engaged. Rather than fess up and embarrassingly admit that they were faking it, Tristan and Zoey decide to carry on their “relationship” until their exes leave town again.

Except Zoey has actually been infatuated with Tristan for years. And once he kissed her, Tristan can’t seem to get Zoey back into the just friends category. It doesn’t take long before fake engaged turns into real dating, and not just for the sake of their exes…

I really loved Zoey right from the very beginning. I found her sweet and kind, even to the people who weren’t kind to her, but all without her feeling like a doormat. I occasionally wavered on my affection for Tristan though. I had a bit of a hard time buying into Tristan never feeling a single bit of attraction for Zoey and then suddenly being head-over-heels after one spectacle of a kiss. But he definitely grew on me, and I started to appreciate how nice of a guy he could be.

The drama and conflict of The Heartbreaker was a bit over the top, but I feel like I should have anticipated that more considering the less than realistic plots of the first two books in this series. During most of the conflict of the book, I just wanted to shake both of them and tell them to just talk to each other and there were definitely times when the he said/she said and constant secrets and lies started to get a bit cringey. But all in all, the book made me laugh and made me smile and was overall a fun and enjoyable read.

Tristan Hunter has been trying to mend his broken heart that his ex left in taters. Now hes somehow got himself into a situation with his best friend Zoey where they have found themselves pretending to be engaged to each other when Tristan's ex comes back into town. Zoey has had feelings for Tristan for a long time and now it looks like Tristan has finally realized that true love has been right under his nose the whole time. I enjoyed this book, it was more of a very sweet romance with a lot of hot sex. the story line was interesting but predictable and the characters were lovable and sweet.

We get to fall in love with Tristan Hunter in this fabulous book. This is book 3 in The Hunter Brothers series and they have all been drool worthy, laugh out loud books that just wrap you up in warmth and love. This one is no different except where Tristan's brothers are more on the macho alpha side, he is the caring, smart, and oh so romantic Hunter brother. Zoey Childers has worked with Tristan Hunter for 3 years and has had a heart smashing crush on him the entire time, Tristan has always thought Zoey was terrific and beautiful but they were best friends, she essentially works for him so he has kept his feelings under wraps until they kiss..... There are twist and turns in this book that will keep you flipping the pages as you will not want to put it down. I loved how this story started and how it ended and everything in between. The addition of all the animals at the shelter where they work plus the antics of Tristan's dog Luke that is in love with Zoey this is a fun, heart warming book that will give you the warm fuzzies all over. I received an early copy to read and give my honest opinion. I loved this book, I love all 3 books in this series. They are essentially all stand-alones but if you haven't read the first two trust me you will want to, they are all great. I highly recommend this book. 5 stars for sure.

Oh be still my thumping heart, I knew Tristan was going to steal it from me. I love the Hunter Brothers series by Lili Valente, but Tristan and this book, is my favorite so far. Lili you seem to outdo yourself each and every time and I don’t know how you do it but I am so glad you do. The Heartbreaker is such a romantic, sweet, sexy, delicious and yes even humorous friends to lovers story. Tristan has had his own heart torn to pieces and the only thing that gets him through day to day is working with his best friend Zoey doing the work that they both are so passionate about. Zoey works for him so he has never thought of her as anything more than a friend but he’s been blind. Never seeing that the one who would be so perfect for him has been right there all this time. Zoey on the other hand has been secretly in love with Tristan all this time, but he is her best friend and her boss and it didn’t seem like he felt that way too. Then one fateful day changes everything when they decide to pretend to be engaged when their exes turn up together as a couple. One kiss, that’s all it took to ignite the sparks that had always been there. They have chemistry that could ignite a fire! They are so good together, in and out of the bedroom. They are adorable as a couple. They are sexy, witty and so passionate, and so it goes that their fake relationship becomes anything but and I just love the way the story goes. It’s fantastic!
The last chapter was absolutely amazing and the epilogue is probably my favorite part of this book. It’s an epilogue like no other and I just could not stop smiling. You will have to read it to see why.
Another 5 star read by the fabulous Lili Valente!!

5 Not So Fake Stars

How did this series got even better?

I adored this cute and sweet story. Goodness! Tristan and Zoey were so amazing, both together and as individuals. Zoey was such a cute, and quirky woman. I adored her big heart, sense of humor, and funny random animal facts. Also Tristan, damn that man made me swoon so hard. It was so great to read about a loving guy (not another cocky manwhore - though I adored them, this awesome man was like breath of fresh air). Also the chemistry between these two so prefect. And another star for all the cute animals - especially the socks and panty stealing doggo.

Now I can't wait for Deacon's book, that man also need some loving!

The Heartbreaker is Lili Valente's newest standalone in the Hunter Brothers series and my favorite of the series! Yes, it's part of the series, but you can read it by itself and not miss a thing! I know it's tough to pick favorites, but Tristan called to my heart in book one. He was bruised and heartbroken and needed some hugs! He was also missing what was right in front of him. Zoey. She is his closest friend, his trusted employee. He thinks she's great, sweet, beautiful. But he never sees her as anything other than a friend. Until they have to pretend to be engaged for their exes. Then one kiss turns Tristan's world upside down. In the best, sexiest way possible! Zoey has been in love with Tristan for years and she never thought anything would come of it. She's been holding herself back from finding love because of her feelings for Tristan. But after that fake kiss that felt very, very real, she's not sure what to think. Tristan is sweet and funny and he genuinely cares about Zoey. But can it be more than friends? After some hilarious happenings, Zoey ends up closer to Tristan than she ever thought possible. What happens when faking it becomes real? When pretending makes them want to try? When a few kisses ignite a passion that's been brewing for years? Can they go from friends to lovers to something more? I LOVED this story! I knew Tristan and Zoey had something simmering between them and I loved the slow burn. The first kiss is perfection. Their banter is witty and hilarious. Their chemistry off the charts. Lili Valente knows how to write romance! The Heartbreaker is sexy, sweet, romantic, whimsical and my favorite of the series!

I want to know what makes her tick. The silly things that make her happy, the secret things that make her sad, and the erotic things that make her fall apart when she’s naked in my bed.
God, I want that. So fucking much…

“I don’t want you to hide anything from me, beautiful. I want you to show me everything I make you feel.”

Mine. God, I want her to be mine. So fucking much

I hope you can see the pattern, once I'd listen to one book, I just had to listen to the next one.
This the youngest and sweetest brother Tristan who runs an animal shelter. His ex-fiancee Kim broke his heart after ten years together. Kim went to Australia, but decides to come back on the night of his brother's wedding reception. In panic Tristan and Zoe pretend they are together.
Need I say more, and enjoyable and entertaining listen. Zoe and Tristan are perfect for each other.

Back off witches! Tristan Hunter is my latest book boyfriend and I'm not sharing him!

This book had me in stitches! The things ex-girlfriends do to try and win back a man. Get over yourself, he doesn't want you. So 😝!

No really this was a great book by Lili Valente. As always, the plot was great and the characters were one of a kind. I have throughly enjoyed this series, and I'll be sad to see it end. This just glad she shared this amazing family with us readers.

The Delight
I loved coming back to see the Hunter brothers who all have their own issues, different personalities and so much hotness it should be illegal. The Heartbreaker features Tristan who takes loyalty and love seriously. Zoey may have friend zoned him, but the two are going to learn that you can't stay in the friend zone forever.

Review
Tristan was the brother in the series I thought had it all together. He was in love with his sweetheart, had a good job and was easy going. Until his fiance decides she wants adventure and dumps him to head off. He is absolutely heart broken and not looking to repeat the experience.

Zoey works for Tristan at the animal rescue. She does everything and has a crush on her boss. But she friend zoned him because he was engaged and because he was her boss. With the fiance out of the way, she still doesn't think she should go for him even if his dog loves to eat her clothing,

When at the wedding reception of Tristan's brother Zoe sees her ex-boyfriend, she panics and asks Tristan to help her. They share a kiss neither was expecting and when confronted by the couple, even more surprises appear. Zoe's ex is with Tristan's ex, whom Zoey has never met as his fiance, but knows her quite well from college. So well, she knows his fiance was cheating on him in college while tormenting Zoe daily.

Tristan leaps and tells them they are engage. The story goes from 0 to 60 in a matter of moments as the newly engaged couple become aware of each other as themselves. But they have to keep up the pretense, and that requires practice to become a believable couple.

This is a cute story of two people so perfect for each other finally getting down and figuring it out. The sparks fly once they are out of the bag and don't stop. Not terribly long, you don't really need to have read the first two books to understand this one, but why not get your fill of hotness by reading the series.

Only one brother yet to read about and I already know I am going to love his female counterpart. You meet her in this story as well. Looking for a hot, sultry, but also cute story, this one will leave you swooning.

Though it has only been a short time since I read book two in Lili Valente’s Hunter Brothers series, I really missed how fun and charming they are. But it took merely a moment after beginning to read The Heartbreaker to be completely immersed back into their world.

Tristan and Zoey have always shared a deep connection ever since they started working together. However, in his eyes it was merely based on friendship. Zoey on the other hand has been in love with Tristan from the moment they met. When their ex’s unexpectedly return to town, Tristan and Zoey agree to put on a display of affection pretending to be madly in love just to prove that their hearts are no longer broken. Because that’s what friends are for, right? And it all starts with one hot and steamy kiss. But from the moment their lips meet, the passion begins to swirl inside of Tristan making him realize there is so much more to their connection than merely friendship. As their charade grows, so does Tristan and Zoey’s love making their worlds begin to flip from merely friendship too much, much more.

I love the way Lili Valente’s stories seem to effortlessly unfold on the pages before me. They always have a way of completely capturing my attention leaving her characters flitting through my mind not only while I’m in the middle of their story, but even after I’ve finished the book. Ms. Valente has a magical way of capturing love and romance like a genie in a bottle releasing it to her readers in a way that captivates their souls.

Although The Heartbreaker is part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone, but once you get a taste of one Hunter brother, you’ll definitely want to go back and meet them all. Each story is replete with such smart and comical bantering as well as hot and steamy moments of passion, I’m confident that they will draw you in very quickly just as they did me which make me fall in love all over again.

The Heartbreaker is the third installment of The Hunter Brothers series. Poor Tristan, the sensitive and sweet Hunter brother is left heartbroken when he was left behind by the love of his life. Sixteen months he's been brooding, and when he finally starts to see the light at the end of the tunnel, his ex decides to reappear in town. Soon Tristan finds out that the women he thought he knew was anything but.
Zoey has been in love with Tristan from the very first moment she laid eyes on him. Then, Tristan was unavailable, in love and engaged. Even after his breakup, Zoey knew he would never look at her than more than a friend, a colleague. So when his ex Kim, Zoey's arch nemesis comes strolling into the bar with her ex, what a surprise for both Tristan and Zoey to find out that both of their exes are dating. What an even bigger surprise is Tristan telling Kim that he and Zoey are engaged and very much in love.
How far are Zoey and Tristan willing to take this fake engagement to convince their exes that they are truly in love? As Tristan and Zoey spend more time playing it up for their exes, the more they find that the feelings they are displaying is really REAL. Tristan thought that what he had with Kim was love, but spending time with Zoey he realizes that what he feels for her is REAL and she has been under his nose the whole time. Will Tristan and Zoey reveal their true feelings to each other?

I love Tristan and Zoey. There is nothing better than two people who start off as friends to then discover that what they have is so much more. I was thrilled that Tristan and Zoey were pushed into this fake engagement because in the end they found TRUE LOVE! Well done Lili Valente. The Heartbreaker is the perfect addition to this series.

This was quite sweet and cute. It was very gentle - even gentler than the previous two books in this series which were very lighthearted. I have to say I didn’t enjoy it as much as the other two - it wasn’t quite as fun and it didn’t work as well for me. The fake relationship aspect felt a little bit bland and I thought the main antagonist figure was a bit cartoonish. I did like, though, that this character’s machinations never really worked - the trust between Zoey and Tristan was quite a nice change.

I will say this has been the strength of this series so far - I really like how the author has set up the couples as more than just romantic partners; she’s taken great pains to show them as friends, too. This was continued in this one but I did think were told more about how close they were versus actually showing them as friends.

I just found the book a little bit bland - the romance was nice but there was virtually no conflict or drama between them, and the external drama felt a bit on the silly side in parts. Still - the writing was very easy, light and engaging, and I still enjoyed reading it.

Content Notes: Friends-to-lovers, boss/employee.

I can’t get enough of the Hunter Brothers!

Sweet, sexy, sensitive and loves animals! Tristan is the bomb and Zoey knows it! They’ve been co-workers for years but circumstances have them suddenly faking their way out of the friend zone. It is everything Zoey could have hoped for but Tristan... Well, he’s a little slower off the mark. He has his reasons but once they both realize their good friend and co-worker is also hot, that door can’t be closed…

“Chemistry is like toothpaste – one it’s out of the tube, it’s not going back in.”

Whew… The sparks that (finally) flew for Zoey and Tristan were off the charts! It took some persuading, and some ‘practice’ sessions but it didn’t take them both long to figure out they had something special. I loved how much they liked and respected each other before anything started between them. Not that Zoey would have minded that time be a lot shorter! I don’t blame her, Tristan is all that and more!

Throwing in animals with attitude and exes with suspicious motives, this was another delicious addition the series!

Oh, and the best character name, like, ever? Moodonna! Bahahahahaha…..

Ok so I so loved this book!! I met the sexy Hunter brothers in The Baby Maker and you can’t help but fall in love with all of them!! I have to go back and read The Trouble Maker but I was not lost in any way these are definitely about a different brother each time even though they each are a part of the book because the brothers are a tight family. This book was about Tristian. The brother that can seem to give some really great advice and see things like they are, except for his self. Zoey his assistant has had a major crush for her boss the entire time she’s worked for him. But all Tristian sees them as is friends until the night his ex comes back into town hanging all over her new man which is Zoey ex. Next thing you know Tristian and Zoey are kissing and are fake engaged. But what happens when Tristian wants the fake engagement to become a real one? And why did it take him so long to realize Zoey was the perfect one for him? And why are both ex’s back in town? I loved this friends to lovers romance. It’s a real feel good, make your toes curl, with a dash of humor perfect book to curl up with!! And I highly recommend this book!!

Zoey, Tristan and Luke (Tristan's dog who happens to be in love with Zoey) form an excellent trio. They work together, they like one another and are all close friends. And, we all know it is totally possible to be completely platonic friends with a member of the opposite sex.

Wait. It isn't?

Nope.

Sure, Tristan convinces himself it is for the best. Because, when something scares us, that is what we do, we convince ourselves that the way things are is for the best, so we don't have to take the risk of changing things by taking the chance.

But, when his awful ex shows up, and he kisses Zoey (not knowing that Zoey and his ex have a past of their own) well, sparks fly all over the place. And, as lies often do, this one then requires them to maintain the charade.

I loved the ending of the story, the way that Tristan shows how much he loves and trusts Zoey, and how much he really is dedicated to the relationship. I enjoyed this title, and I am definitely looking forward to the next one my this author!

This is book #3 in the Hunter Brothers series, and while it can be standalone, it is more delightful after having read book #1 and 2. Zoey and Tristan are the stars of this love story, and for both of these characters this is another try at love. Zoey has been secretly in lust with Tristan ever since she started working for him in the Vet clinic. Tristan has been carrying a torch for his first love forever, and his heart was broken by her. Zoey's ex would like to have her back as he didn't know what he had until she was gone. Tristan's dog adores Zoey and I love him. Tristan starts a relationship with Zoey on a lie, and yet for Zoey it is no lie. Together they fend off previous lovers who want to have them back. Their love is a slow very hot and very sexy burn. They have delightful delicious love and characters from the previous books make appearances. There is fun banter, fun dog antics, such sweet sexy yummalicous love. I have really enjoyed this series both reading and being read to.

I love Tristan & Zoey romance so much. It was sweet romance that you can easily cuddle up with. Their romance started off as a fake relationship and they both work at the animal shelter. That Tristan runs and his dog Luke. I love Luke POV at the end of the book 😆🐶

Tristan and Zoey's exs turn up at the wedding and that's how this whole story started. I love the qe slowly seem them fall in love with each other and, Zoey truley loves Tristan. Cause his ex cheated on him at college and Zoey didn't want to tell him, to protect him

Tristan truely loves Zoey and he knows how lucky he is that she is in his life. And he thankful that his relationship failed with his ex cause, we don't have seen that the love of his loves was sitting next to him in the office

There is a character a loved and he only had a small part. He is a parrot called Captain. He loves disco & one if his saying "loose lips sink ships!" I wish there was more of him

Just a very sweet romance with a little drama called a crazy ex. Hardly ant drama just alot of cute moments ❤

5 Stars!

Sexy. Sweet. Irresistible. The best she's ever written. A must read series!

Lili Valente is back, stunning readers with this incredible standalone romance that Ida going to make you blush, swoon, and root for love. The Heartbreaker was so so GPS and dare I say the absolute best of the Hunter Brothers series.

One moment. One kiss. Everything is about to change forever. And what is supposed to be fake, temporary is feeling like more and more real every moment they are together. Lines are crossed. Boundaries are blurring. Zoey has always loved him with her heart tucked tight and well Tristan, nothing will every be the same after that kiss.

Undeniable chemistry. A rock solid foundation. Smoldering heat. Heart pounding tension. Unforgettable characters. Two friends who are about to find love in all the right places. It's that dreamy romance that will have hearts in your eyes by the very last page.

I highly recommend this book.
