The Blessed Bananas is a children’s book written by Tayyaba Syed, illustrated by Melani Putri, and published by Prolance, who provided me with the ebook for a review. The author had bagged the first place in a creative story contest held by the Islamic Writers Alliance in 2015.

Rico is an old monkey who owns a banana plant that produces sweet delicious bananas all year round. However, the stingy monkey never shared it with anyone, attributing his fruits to be his own rewards for his hard work. One day, due to an unfortunate incident, his precious bananas fall down from the tree. How does he react? Does he learn his lesson? Or would he create more problems for the villagers?

The Blessed Bananas is a book for children aged 6 to 12. It shows the readers the importance of having good friends, and the significance of seeking help from Allah.

I love that the author has enlisted some virtues of reciting the salawat (salutations) upon the Prophet at the end of the book. And the best part is the book has some recipes based on bananas, for your sweet tooth.

Rico, a cranky old monkey, was blessed with an abundance of bananas. So great was his selfishness that he failed to consider the needs of others even though he had more than enough to spare. But when tragedy befell Rico, he came to realize that his own careless and selfish ways were to blame. When the same animals he had turned away helped Rico he soon learned that performing small acts of kindness can bring great joy to others as well as to himself.

The Blessed Bananas, by Tayyaba Syed, is a lovely book with a powerful message about sharing and caring for others. Lovely illustrations by Melani Putri, help further enhance this book which is recommended for home and school libraries and has earned the Literary Classics Seal of Approval
