Jeweled Embers #2

Obsidian Embers: The Beginning of Dragons

Rate this book
My name is Dr. Olivia Montgomery. As one of the lead scientists for the top secret “Reborn Fire” project, a big part of my job was to observe and study the Obsidian Dragon. I know, it sounds crazy right. Just a couple years ago nobody would have thought that dragon’s even existed, and here I was directly involved in their creation.
When the ancients were first discovered deep below the ice-locked surface in Antarctica, our military was quick to act. Using the latest in genetic engineering, new hybrid dragons were created using human DNA. These new hybrids were stronger, smarter and easier for us to control. This allowed the military to quickly train and deploy their new weapons to maintain the peace in a world that was rapidly spinning out of control.
I knew there was more to them though.
I worked with the Obsidian day and night, I knew him better then I knew anyone else in that military base. A deep connection had grown between us, we couldn’t talk, but I could see in his eyes, he felt the same way.
Before they turned, rumors were circulating that the dragons began to show strange chameleon-like abilities to change their appearance. No one knew for sure though, and it was quickly dismissed in the beginning. But it wasn't long before that all changed.
Now, I knew there was more to these rumors, and when the dragons finally shifted into human form for all to see, my thoughts were confirmed.
The Obsidian was a tall, dark and gorgeous man. With long flowing locks, a rock-solid body, and those all telling eyes, they never changed. There was an instant recognition between the two of us, and we were finally able to communicate with one another. His name was Kushanu, and he had so much to tell me. I was in heaven…for a while.
Then in an instant, everything came to an end.
The world as you and I knew it was over, and it quickly became everyone for themselves in a desperate fight for survival.
Kushanu and his dragons saved me that day though, they saved many of us.
Now he wants to claim me as his mate.
Can I trust him?
Would I survive if I didn’t?
Obsidian Embers is a little bit of sci-fi, fantasy and shifter romance all rolled into one. It does contain some steamy scenes, has no cliffhangers and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Jadyn Chase continues "The Beginning of Dragons" with book two, Obsidian Embers. Obsidian is the black dragon assigned to Dr. Olivia Montgomery of the set of three original dragons at the military base in Antarctica. There's an emotional pull between these two that can be felt between the thick glass they each watch through. When an asteroid hits and starts to demolish everything, the balance of everything changes. What Jadyn Chase gives us is an evolving story of circumstances, dragons, humans, and all the emotions that each have attached to them. It's mesmerizing and seeing the difference in the personalities involved is intriguing. I can't wait to see what happens with the next set.

This is a quick read told from the perspective of the Obsidian dragon and his mate Olivia. You don't have to read the first book to understand the events, but there is some overlap in the setup. Nice take on the end of the known world and the struggles of the remaining humans and Obsidian dragon and his people to unite and survive.

First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

This was a totally different kind of dragon shifter story. Olivia was so obsessed with the Obsidian dragon she didn't have a life. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.

Kind of short

The story was kind of short. It could have been better if a little more was added. The ending was kind of abrupt. I kept looking for the next chapter.

Everything is not smooth "flying" with the jewels and their clones. This is the Obsidian's story. Now on to Diamond's!

SOMEBODY KEEP THAT JET ON READY!!!
Ok guys this is going to be a jumble so hang on tight. I know I did. If you're looking for an exciting, fast paced, action packed, easy to follow read that captures your attention until the last word. Congratulations my friends you've found it. What exactly you found is still up for grabs. But you know me too well by now to think I can't run. Run right into it that is. This has it all and add more on to that and you still won't be close enough. The characters and scenes were intriguing and complex. The strong storyline kept the tension high and on alert. I followed the characters along as their personalities transformed and blended into something you wouldn't ecpect. The scenes were so realistic with graphic detailed descriptions that really brought this to life before your eyes. The characters are faced with a situation they have no clue how to handle. Twists, turns, unexpected surprises and danger hanging over their heads like a weight you can't lift. Then things get really touch and go. With hearts pounding, pulses racing, adrenaline pumping with the smell of death in the air. When your back is against the wall and life as you knew it coming down all around you. Trust or not to trust. Gut wretching, nailbiting, senses in overdrive and your hanging on by a thread. The two main characters chemistry is white hot, off the charts, explosive and about to combust. If this read doesn't take you on one hell of an ass kicking ride, I feel bad for you man. Jadyn pulled this read together with all the action, suspense and subterfuge one might expect in the military. She made it seem effortlessly smooth as silk with just enough rough patches you can feel the friction. Wow! A word of advice guys when you get your copy. Grab a snack, a drink, a comfy seat, kick back and relax cause you won't be going anywhere until that last word is read. Phenomenal job Jadyn and thank you for sharing this magnificent tale with us.

If you are looking for a quick read with elements of science fiction combined with a dragon shifter romance then this is the book for you. Olivia is a scientist studying the Obsidian dragon. She lives under the world in Antarctica where the dragon is being cloned for use as a weapon should the need arise. The longer Olivia studies the dragon she develops feeling for it and senses that the dragon can actually understand her. When the world as they know it is destroyed, can Olivia and the Obsidian dragon along with the other cloned dragon shifters find a way to live together? This is one well written storyline and I look forward to reading more about the other dragons mentioned in this story.

Jadyn is a new author for me and “Obsidian Embers” is the first book in a science fiction/paranormal series. Dragons are discovered and the government clones new dragons with human DNA to make dragons into super warriors. The dragons soon learn to shift into humans and everything changes. Olivia a beautiful scientist is charged with observing the Obsidian dragon who as a man is known as Kashanue. They develop an attachment and when the Obisidian shifts into a man, he knows that she is his mate. What does the future hold for them? “Obsidian Embers” is a good start to the series with lots of action, passion and romance. This quick fun paranormal story is well worth reading. Give it a try.

This is a fascinating, intriguing book and I really enjoyed reading it. What you will find in this book is: drama, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, adventure, action, dragons, humans, experiments, intuition, memories, unexpected shape-shifting, asteroid impact, taken to safety, mates, coming to terms/agreement, searching for mates, conflict and compromise, The characters are interesting and likeable. I found the story-line and plot well thought out and written. I look forward to reading more books written by this talented author.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I’ve read by this author. That said, I really enjoyed this book. It’s about scientists who live in a cave under Antarctica. They discovered 3 dragons there. The military stepped in and cloned more dragons to use to fight for world peace. When an asteroid hits the earth causing tsunamis and mass distribution the scientists are shocked to discover the dragons can shapeshifter into men. The three dragons take their caregivers and mates to where they were from. This book is about the dragon Obsidian and his clone babies and mate travel to what’s left of Hawaii. Where they try to rebuild their lives.

Jadyn Chase is a fairly new author to me as I've only read one other book, and not of this series. Not having read the first book of the series I was a bit confused from where it started. However, the plot was well developed along with the characters. The other issue is where is the story taking us since it didn't really come across, and with everything being so detailed and the ending so abrupt I felt like Chase may have exceeded her word count and broke it off prematurely. I would still say it is a good read and I enjoyed it. Would I recommend it for others to read....yes, but I would probably encourage them to read the first book.

A standalone novella without cliffhanger that reads more like a fairytale. The setting is interesting: genmanipulated and cloned human/lizards as weapons. The beginning is a bit slow and the end could have been more developed. The characters don't show a lot of depth and for me personally, it has too much macho-man/caveman behaviour but if you like strong and powerful men/shifter and women to swoon over them, then read this book. Ignore the scientific nonsense e.g. memory transfer, then you can enjoy this little fairytale but I must admit I liked „The Phoenix Dragons“ by the author more.

This one fell way short of my expectations based on how much I liked the first book in the series. A lot of the tension was missing. The connection between the characters was not as clearly defined as is could have been. It was also too short. It took me less than two hours (with interruptions) to read. I hope if there is a third one for the diamond dragon, it is more like the sapphire dragon.

This is an interesting read for those who enjoy paranormal romances.

It is best if you have some familiarity with the series already but you can pick up enough to understand the background. I thought it was an interesting storyline and had some good twists as well.
