WHAT DID I JUST READ?!

Oh man . . . this book was all kinds of fun.

I was immediately drawn into Natylia's plight (aka Nat) as she struggles to make sense of the crumbling world around her politically, with family, and in friendships. I could completely relate to her social anxiety and introversion, which endeared her to me further. Most especially, I appreciated the undercurrent theme of bravery, which is as multi-faceted as a cut crystal. Once again, I could easily connect to her fear of being

First things first. Have you ever read a slow-paced fantasy novel with a focus more on the main character's growth and emotions? Because, before Imber, I honestly hadn't. Throughout most of the story, Imber's focused more on the emotional side of things than the adventure and plot. The uniqueness of it is something I absolutely lived for throughout my entire reading experience.

You're pulled into Natylia's POV and see her struggles, her emotions, her dreams and hopes. You experience how she grows

I love a good fantasy (who doesn't!?) and a journey/quest storyline, and OH MY does Imber deliver.

description

Imber is a wonderful debut and such a strong start to the Thanatos series. The writing flows really well and kept up a good pace throughout, making equal time for action but also for descriptions of the land and the worldbuilding! The worldbuilding was so well done; it is interesting and mysterious. The story hinges around the mythology of the world so it's obviously necessary that it be fleshed

Move over, Legolas, because Jyn is in town! Seriously though, read the book for the snarky elf comments. Read as he snarks his way through tragedy, mayhem, and adventures full of pitfalls and big scary creatures. Oh, and he's not the main character, by the way. He just happens to be a scene-stealer. Silly elf.

The story had me hooked right from the first few pages. The characters were so amazing and felt so real. Im just so sad that this book is finished. I may have to re-read it! I absolutely loved the story, from the friendship between Natylia and Jyn to the slowly realized romance between Natylia and Camion. I was rooting for them from the time Camion was introduced.

Please tell me I can start reading the next instalment in this amazing story soon! I cant wait!

IMBER BY TYFFANY HACKETT SPOILER FREE REVIEW!

*I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for a free and honest review*

Let's kick this off by saying, simply, WOW. This book got a well deserved 5 out of 5 stars from me. My favourite genre is and has always been fantasy, which means, as someone who thus reads a lot of it, it now takes a lot more work to grab my attention when reading fantasy. But this book did it. It was a high fantasy adventure full of action and anticipation and excitement. I

"They didnt owe me anything. I owed them the world, and if I could find a way, the word they would have..."

Tyffany Hackett contacted me late April and asked if I would like to read her book in exchange for an honest review. As she was part of Jenna Morecis Street Team for TSC - and an all-round lovely human being! - I said yes without hesitation. I even forgot to ask what Imber was about. Thankfully, she had me covered. Once I read the blurb I knew I HAD to read the book.

Imber has it all: adventure, heartbreak, vivid characters, and a swoon-worthy romance. Not to mention the writing is beautiful.

I was sent an ARC of Imber by the author, Tyffany Hackett, who knows that I typically enjoy YA Fantasy reads. This book now sits on my shelf next to my other fantasy favorites, like Sarah J. Maas and Scott Westerfeld. If you're looking for a sweet, fun, and gripping fantasy adventure story, this book is for you.

The story follows Natylia, a girl who takes her mother's

Its not very often you stumble across an epic fantasy that undertakes changing so many accepted norms and turning them on their heads as Imber does. From the get-go this entire story is in first person, and just in the main characters POV! That so rarely happens in fantasy that from the onset I found myself grinning. It may seem small, but its something Hackett does very well and is so different from the other fantasy books I read that I wanted to mention it up front. But anyway, Imber is a ...more

There can be so much noise in this world of independent authors and self-published books, so many new titles being shoved into the market every day, that finding a truly enjoyable, well-written novel can be like discovering a secret known only to a select few. Imber is one of those books, and I couldn't have enjoyed reading it more. The characters are perfectly crafted with personalities and idiosyncrasies that make them loveable from the first time they step into the story, and the depth at ...more

This book is a great start to a series that is set up to be epic! I enjoyed the world building a lot and cannot wait to explore more of this world, but what I really loved most about this story were the characters, especially Natylia, who is a very real heroine, with her stubbornness but also her fears and anxiety that make her very relatable, and Jyn, her guard and friend who isand I say this with no shamethe love of my life. The other characters made for a great supporting cast to Natylia, a ...more

I really enjoyed this book, so much so that I was up half the night reading it. I love the characters especially Jyn amd Meryn. Natylia is a great MC, yoy really empathise with what she is doing by ascending to the throne and also trying to balance what is in her heart.

I also really enjoyed the world building, it felt like i could step into Natylia world and be there. The mythology behind the story of the keys is great and definetly left me wanting to know more. I really like Tyffany's writing

Which is saying something. I constantly felt like picking this book up and continuing the story. It had the right kind of magic for me to really enjoy. The pacing was good throughout and the flow was steady with waves of action and lighter moments.

Nataylia was a great main character. I love that she was strong and brave, but had her faults. She felt more real and like an actual human. Not a pretty much perfect Princess turned Queen whos hard to love. Her motives

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book feels a lot like a first draft: the author had some ideas and wrote a book, but then she forgot to go through it again and see how well it translated to the page. You have logic fail after logic fail, serious pacing issues, things that are set-up but dont get a payoff while others dont get any foreshadowing, character development inconsistencies, and a world-building in need of some love. The book needed a beta reader

Great start to a series! The characters were my favorite part of this book. I instantly connected with our protagonist Nat. Her emotions were so well written and realistic. I felt her pain and grief (and even cried with her at times). I love reading strong friendships and this book delivered. You can really tell that Jyn, Meryn and Cam care for Nat like family. While the romance was subtle, it melted my insides and I cant wait to read more between the two of them. Once the adventure kicked in I ...more

Tyffany Hackett's debut novel is a wonderful fantasy novel with rich characters and detail. It's a little slower paced than I'm used to, but as it does seem to be more on the epic side of fantasy, that isn't surprising. What did surprise me is that the action mentioned in the blurb doesn't happen until about 50% of the way in. Even so, the first 50% of the book did a great job of setting up the rest of the novel, and the novel did a great job of setting up the rest of the series.

One of Hackett's

I want to read the fancy print version to count... but I also needed to share my initial thoughts as far as a quick review... so here are my initial thoughts for review... more to come after my reread soon...

I read a ton of fantasy... and as JRR Tolkien is my baseline for fantasy, I have a high standard. So I would totally put Imber in at 4.5 stars!

In Imber we follow Natylia, a young princess, who takes on the responsibilities of her kingdom earlier than expected. Just after the coronation everything goes south.

I just love the writing style of Tyffany Hackett. Shes got a very engaging style, giving the world, the figures, and their actions a lot of variety.

The characters are adorable. They have their quirks and signature moves, they have a background and a life, they have motives. You get a feel for them, you know how they might react

When I started Imber it was a bit overwhelming being thrown face-first into a very descriptive and a bit too realistic anxiety attack of my future Queen. Accepting that this was just where we were and pushing away my own anxiety I grabbed onto Natylia and let her pull me into her queendom of Thrais. Riddled with assassins and murder and terrible dance partners, Natylia isn't just a damsel in distress she is a damsel who is

The story follows Natylia who is 19 years old and petitions the Council to ascend the throne 5 years early because her sick mother (the queen) might not live that long. After reading this book, I wanted to write and post this review to share my honest experiences toward the story. I really enjoyed the story. It was very well written and engaging. The beginning was a little bit slow, but the series really picked up after that. There was so much action, adventure and excitement; it was difficult to put down. And lets not forget the banter between characters, the worldbuilidng as well as terrifically-developed characters, especially Natylia. You see her intentions ...more

Im going to preface this with I guess I didnt know what I was getting myself into when I started this book. It has taken me a while to finish it, but it was well worth the wait. Imber has fun and super unique characters. Theyre actually one of my favorite parts of the book! This book had me physically wincing for them, but I couldnt wait to find out what else was about to happen. The concept of this series is intriguing as well, and I cant wait to see how Natylia will handle herself in book 2!
