One Dinosaur One Bullet

Rate this book
In the near future, the synthesization of dark matter makes time travel a reality. Dan Webber and his son guide wealthy hunters 100 million years back in time where Tyrannosaurs rule and Velociraptors scavenge. New understandings of physics alleviate the once-honored fear of altering the future by new actions committed in the past. But when an anomaly interferes with the time machine’s programming, Dan and the others find themselves in a life-threatening situation no one has prepared for!

Paying homage to the SF classics A Gun for Dinosaur by L. Sprague de Camp and A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury, One Dinosaur One Bullet pits six time travelers against vicious dinosaurs in the prehistoric past. One Dinosaur One Bullet is a novella 22,000 words long, available at this time for the special price of .99 cents.

A fresh version of Dino hunting

One Dinosaur, One Bullet is a pretty good story with a fresh version of this over used theme. A hunting safari time travel company takes visitors back in time and yes, nothing goes as planned, but I like this story. I have read a dozen stories like this because I love dinosaurs, but not hunting, and I think it would be cool to go back and see them...or not! This is the story of the 'not'!

ONE DINOSAUR ONE BULLET is a powerful action-adventure sci-fi horror story with an emphasis on action horror!
What makes it powerful?
Strong, complex characters.
Well-presented scifi elements.
Compelling action sequences and tension building.
A brilliant and brilliantly written storyline.
All of the above.

This fast paced and brutal tale redefines the term “monster” under Dane Hatchell’s skillful writing as several levels of horror flow from the pages. A highly recommended must-read!

Easily the worst book I have ever read, and I am a 64 year old avid reader! The only thing the previous reviewer had right, was that horror DOES flow from its pages. The sum total of character development was listing the characters name and occupation in the first couple of pages. The author did not even bother to explain how the time travel was accomplished, which was the central premise of the whole story. This book was the literary equivalent of the 10 cent comic books you bought as a kid. If you paid 10 cents for this drivel, you got screwed. One star is way too much!

What a ride

When I started this book, I thought it was just going to be a straight forward going back in time to hunt dinosaurs. Then things started going wrong and suddenly the whole thing took a turn toward conspiracy. I don't want to say just what happens but it is one of those didn't see that coming moments. The dinosaurs are good at being dinosaurs. The people in the story are interesting enough to want to see what happens to them. I would say this is a story to sit down and read on a rainy afternoon for the fun to be found in it.

Time travel for a hunting trip

This tale was about a trip that was an organized hunt for dinosaurs timed out so each hunter got their paid kill. Only this time, changes were made to cover up a planned murder of one. But dinosaurs can't be predicted to behave as though they are expected. That deviation of time resulted in the deaths of all but one survivor from the six members of the hunting party.

One Short Book

What? This book ended at less than 60%. Glad it was only $.99. Story was alright at the most. One big love triangle with people floating off into space after being eaten by dinosaurs. Everyone wanting to kill each other. A story of greed and corruption. Poor planning and selfishness. This book started other WTH potential and fizzed out quickly. Even I knew Bo was shaky.

Dino Safari Soap Opera

A nice follow on to the storytelling style of deCamp's Rivers of Time stories, with a heavy influence of family and business drama. Well written and very readable with an unexpected set of twists taking you to the end.

Decent Story

Good character development. Happy to read a story relatively free of bad language. At least I don't remember any bad language. Intriguing story of how people react differently in a life and death situation. A good vacation, relaxation day read.

A SWING AND A MISS IT IS.....

Hello, I don't usually give 1 star reviews unless the story is BAD. Well folks, this one took the cake. Sorry.

If I had a bookshelf for "murderous bastards who deserve to die" this book would be on it too. I was not a particular fan of the characters. The main character was at least tolerable - the rest all fully deserved to be eaten slowly by arthritic shrews, not dinosaurs.

Not bad

Liked the story details about time travel and dinosaur hunting. The murders and killings by the dinosaurs was grueling but interesting

Quick read

I really enjoy short stories this one had more twists and turns and little things that you didn't see coming. It takes place in the Jurassic period enough said.

The story was interesting and an odd sort of way. I compare it to a B rated movie.

This story reads like a first draft. It had potential, but the author skipped all the rewrites necessary to shape it into an interesting read. Characterization and dialogue are especially weak.

This book had an excellent premise, which, I'm sorry to say, fizzled out in favour of lesser things like an inane conspiracy among the time-traveling hunters and a predictable ending. I think we have had our share of diano-chases in the Jurassic Park franchise, so that part didn't appeal to me at all. However, I was extremely intrigued and somewhat confused by the time-travel concept put forth by the author, especially the paradoxes. For instance, if a person died in the Cretaceous era, no one would be able to travel within a thousand years of his time and place of death: a supposed method that time used to prevent such an event from disturbing the future. Indeed? How come such an exact figure like 1000 and nothing else?
