So I actually read Prerna’s short story in Love in Main and I loved it. I remember seeing her upcoming book on Edelweiss and decided to download it. I’m super picky with contemporary so I’m hard to please!

But! I loved it! It was very character driven with an interesting gang concept. And Corey and Tessa were my little babies! Their chemistry was on fire!

The dialogue was fun and the serious moments mingled in very well! I explode with happiness when there’s a mixture of this! Can’t wait to read

There was honestly so much to love about this one that I don't know where to start!

This was one of my most anticipated romance reads of the year- and it exceeded all of my expectations! It was funny, heart-warming, there was plenty of tension/suspense, and to top it all off- a not so bad boy that happens to be an extremely talented artist- as well

Sometimes you're just in the mood for a swoony YA romance. If that's the case, then CHASE THE NIGHT by Prerna Pickett will definitely hit the spot. It's got all the winning elements you could possibly be looking for:

1. A misunderstood bad boy (who is not really all that bad)
2. A firecracker type female protagonist who rides motorcycles.
3. Lots of romantic tension.
4. Twists and turns that you might not see coming.
5. A satisfying ending.

The story begins with the male protagonist Corey, who has

I’m SO excited to have been able to read Prerna Pickett’s debut, IF YOU ONLY KNEW. Filled with beautiful prose and a gorgeous love tale, I was hooked from its opening pages. The book TOTALLY delivered on its promise of an entertaining and heart-warming love story. I was utterly drawn along its spell with the main characters' amazing chemistry (seriously, Pickett deserves an award just for the chemistry alone!).

Tessa and Corey, at first glance, don’t seem to have a ton in common. He’s just been

I got to read this sweet YA contemporary early!!! Chase the Night follows two heroes you will be rooting for the whole time. Corey, released from prison, is the sweet, cinnamon roll bad boy who's not actually a bad boy. And Tessa is a motorcycle-loving, poker-playing daughter with secrets who are crushing her. When Tessa's lawyer father makes Corey repair the garage he and his gang trash, unlikely sparks ignite.

Do you love the Serpents from Riverdale? Do you love cute, swoony love? How about

Corey had just finished serving his time for a crime he didn't commit, but he quickly fell back into old patterns. After vandalizing the home of the lawyer, who prosecuted his case, he found himself back in trouble. The prosecutor's daughter suggested giving Corey a second chance, an opportunity to redeem himself, as she herself was seeking redemption. Sparks inevitably flew, but would these two be able to overcome their past and forge a future together?

•Pro: I had so much sympathy for Corey and

Fans of Simone Elkeles, listen up! You're not going to want to miss this sexy, sweet, thrilling new book from debut author Prerna Pickett! It had everything my (formerly) teen heart needed - a misunderstood "bad boy" who was working hard to protect his family and pay off his debts; a motorcycle riding badass of a female protagonist; SO MUCH sexy chest touching; and a plot that will constantly surprise you as it twists and turns underneath you (wink wink). Pickett builds the romance between Corey ...more

When the contemporary faction of YA literature eventually rises up and demands comparable word counts to their fantasy counterparts, CHASE THE NIGHT will be held up as a shining example of the immersive world-building a talented author can accomplish when armed with the space to do so.

It zigs where you think it'll zag, starting as a quasi "enemies-to-lovers" tale before evolving into a tension-filled love story that would make even the most-concrete hearted (i.e. me) swoon. It even makes time

GIVE ME ALL THE GANG NOVELS IN YA!

When I read the synopsis for this I was already hooked! I've always been a fan of books that incorporate gangs in some way, whether it's fantasy or contemporary, but I don't believe I've read any that delve into romance. A Thousand Fires may breach into that territory (which I also loved by the way), but If You Only Knew goes DEEP and hits all the right spots.

This book is swoony, but it still deals with many of the issues that a lot of adolescents go through

Friends, I ADORED this book!

I was instantly drawn in by our MC, Tessa. She's fierce, hiding a secret, and rides a motorcycle. I also have an extreme soft spot for our love interest, Corey, who has been sucked into a world of gangs and drugs against his will. I really love the complicated spot he's in, and how he's trying to do his best to take care of his family. There is GREAT tension with a swoon-worthy enemies to lovers slow burn (hi, hello, Lawyer's Daughter x Soft Bad Boy Recently Released

If You Only Knew is perfect for readers who enjoy the grit and gang-backdrop romances of Simone Elkeles. This second-chance, hidden-secrets romance will have readers anxiously awaiting the fates of these never-meant-to-be characters and the trauma-filled pasts they must face to find hope in their futures.

Corey would do anything to protect his family, even taking up with the gang his father worked for, even taking the fall and going to jail for his least-favourite gang member. Tessa has a

Love how this book takes the bad-boy trope and spins it on its head! This book takes an honest and heartfelt look at Corey, a boy who had landed himself in trouble while trying to pull his family out of a bad situation, but who has a sincere desire to do better for them and himself. Add to that a girl, Tessa, with some haunting mistakes of her own but sees in Corey a way to redeem herself.

Also, there's gorgeous spray paint art, motorcycle riding and drag racing (by Tessa, no less!!), cute dogs,

If You Only Knew is the story of Tessa and Corey. It focuses on Corey’s involvement in a drug gang and how he doesn’t belong and desperately wants to get out. After a night of vandalism, following a year in prison, he comes clean to the owner, a local prosecutor. Instead of pressing charges, the prosecutor, Hopper, makes him a deal. He helps to clean up the mess he caused. In the process, he meets Hopper’s daughter Tessa. The two quickly become friends and then develop feelings for each other. ...more

I thought this was an enjoyable, well-written YA romance.
I love the premise of the story. Sort of forbidden. Prosecutor's daughter with redeemed criminal.
I think there is such a valuable lesson that is taught in this story. That second chances are worthwhile and important. That telling the truth and owning your mistakes makes you a strong person.
There is a lot of suspense and mystery in the story that kept me turning the pages.
Tessa and Corey were just ... *sigh*, so good together.

Think muscle cars, motorcycles, illegal street racing, and graffiti don't belong in a YA romance? Think again! This swoony tale follows Corey and Tessa through a complex and nuanced story of love, poverty, drugs, and gang politics. The characters aren't perfect, their lives are messy, and they aren't always sure of what they want-- which means that the story is very relatable. There were so many scenes that felt so painfully accurate I wanted to reach out and hug Pickett. Being a teenager is ...more

Not to brag, but I got to read this charming debut early, and I'm here to tell you that Pickett truly knows what she is doing. I read IF YOU ONLY KNOW mostly pool-side, so I can confidently say that it is the perfect vacation read for lovers of YA romance. The burn between our tough-girl-with-secrets heroine and secretly-sweet-heart “bad boy” hero is slow but hot. The plot is satisfying without being predictable. I highly recommend it to everyone who likes a swoony romance with lovable ...more

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Children’s Publishing group and Swoon Read for the advance reader copy, If You Only Knew, by Prerna Pickett in exchange for an honest review. What a great, thrilling slow burn romantic read! I loved both Corey and Tessa; they both have secrets that stop them from being the people they know they can and should be. Brilliant story, completely blew me away and stole my heart! I absolutely loved the main characters, Tessa and Corey. Tessa is the daughter of the prosecutor and Corey is a member of a gang who has just been released from jail. Corey is persuaded by his gang to vandalize Tessa’s home. By accident, Tessa sees him. Corey comes to the house and confesses to her dad that he was the culprit. Her dad wants to give Corey another chance and he agrees that Corey can come and help clean the mess. Tessa is ...more

I picked up this new YA release for a weeklong work trip to Florida this week, but the 304-page beauty (look at that cover!) only made it through the 4-hour flight, as I could not put it down....despite my grumbling tummy! While I am now left without a book to read at the hotel, I have no regrets. Pickett's unique style really engulfed me into the story all along the way. She has a distinct voice, which is well-differentiated as you alternate back and forth between the dual perspective main ...more

Tessa’s dad Decides to give him a chance to work off the damage. Tessa and Corey clearly have chemistry and start to fall for each over while he is completing his community service. Right off the bat. What I love most about this book are the feels it brings while reading. Swoony YA romance. Characters with depth and a gritty plot. It's superbly written. The synopsis is what caught my attention, immediately. Dual perspective is always my favorite narrative. I love being able to follow both characters. Corey and Tessa will have you fall head-over-heels. You do not want to miss out on this one!

A heartfelt, edgy romance about second chances. The main characters, Tessa and Corey, were well-developed and easy to root for. The gang angle to this story was unique and definitely added an element of suspense. It was an enjoyable read, but not without a few issues that kept me from rating it higher. One, the relationship between Tessa and Corey took off so quickly it wasn't entirely believable at first. As the book goes on, Tessa and Corey do have great chemistry and this sort of made up for ...more

I liked Corey but didn’t care about the drugs/gang aspects in his chapters. I didn’t really like Tessa but I can’t pinpoint why. The romance seemed like it would have been ok but i wasn’t bothered to stick around to find out.

Other reviews have compared this to the Perfect Chemistry series which I agree with but I liked those books way more than this.

First off, this reminds me of Katie McGarry's books and that's high praise. Great romantic tension, coupled with both main characters feeling as if they're between a rock and a hard place. Following the chemistry between Corey and Tessa as it grows, while both have to deal with secrets and pressure from those around them makes for a compelling read. I like the way it ends a lot.

This was a really good YA book. It mixed romance with serious and important issues. I enjoyed Tessa and Corey’s story and liked how we got both their perspectives. It was a little too neatly wrapped up but sometimes you just want that!
