Dollycas’s Thoughts

If you need a break in your day from the stress and strife this is a perfect story for you.

An old shopping mall has been converted to a retail/residential facility. Stores on the lower floor with micro-apartments on the upper floor split into 2 sections. One side for senior citizens and the other side for young professionals. There is a community center were residents and shop owners can gather or hold events too. Jade Burt owns Nothin’ But Knit, one of the retail shops and he

Hightail It to Kinsey Falls by Gayle Leeson is the 1st book in the Kinsey Falls series. I found this book to be a fun, cute read. Kinsey Falls is an old shopping mall that was converted to apartments for young adult on one side, seniors on the other. There is also shops below the apartments. Jade owns the knit shop, and her grandmother Millie lives in the apartments. Millie meets a nice young man, Caleb, at the pet store, and tries to set him up with Jade. This is a novella and not a cozy (even though the author does write cozies) but it was so enjoyable! I think what I liked best was the conversion of a former mall into micro apartments with retail on the first floor. I have read about this and think it is brilliant marketing and a great way to use an abandoned building.

There were so many great characters in this story and I can only see more depth to the characters to be developed over future books. Jade has trust issues but I think she learns t

As I was searching my To Be Read (TBR) pile trying to choose what to read next, I realized I had this new paperback I received from the author. I wanted something a bit on the lighter side, rather than my regular cozies, and this was it. A perfect short story that very enjoyable! From baby possums to senior moments, I became wrapped up in the story. It takes place at a mall – Kinsey Falls, where the retail shops are on the main level and apartments are divided up between young adults and senior ...more
“Hightail it to Kinsey Falls” earns 5/5 Perky Possums…Perfect!

It started with a rescue of a little possum and an introduction to a handsome young man…then a suspicion of his intentions… Gayle Leeson penned a delightful audio-ella. For 3-1/2 hours, listeners are transported to Kinsey Falls with Grandma Millie meeting the handsome Caleb Young and deciding he may be perfect for her granddaughter “Jittery” Jade Burt, but Jade isn't quite sure of his intentions. I loved it! Very reminiscent of my fav

Kinsey Falls has so much to recommend it. It's a charming town filled with good people. Millie is a knockout character. Her rescue of a baby possum has far reaching consequences. When she takes her rescue to the pet store, she meets Caleb, a handsome and charming man. She knows that he would be perfect for her granddaughter, Jade. Her matchmaking ruffles Jade's feathers, but the more time she spends with Caleb the more she likes him. Their romance was so sweet. I loved this charming story. Gayle ...more

I found this book to be both humorous and intriguing. I kept trying to imagine having a grandmother that would rescue a baby possum, and in her next breath (well practically) start telling the pet shop clerk about her granddaughter. I would have died of embarrassment! But I loved the way Jade handled it, immediately imagining Caleb (the clerk) to be a con man! She was having no part of Caleb! Of course even Jade could be wrong about a few things.

The premise of having young professionals and seni

Hightail It to Kinsey Falls, book one in Gayle Leeson’s Kinsey Falls series surprised me. It was not a mystery story as I expected from Ms. Leeson but rather a sweet contemporary romance. The town of Kinsey Falls built, or created, a mixed living building for seniors and the under thirty crowd living in opposite wings. On the main floor are shops and a common area for the residents to use. Jade operates a yarn and knitting store on the main floor while her grandmother lives in one of the apartme ...more

I expected a mystery. I got a very enjoyable chick-lit read from author Gayle Leeson. Having read previous works by this author, I was thinking Hightail It would be a pet-based cosy mystery. It is instead women's fiction set in the assisted living retail community of the Kinsey Falls, VA community center. The community center is half shopping mall, half living apartments in the upper half and the upper floor is further divided into halves and one side has senior accommodations while the other si ...more
I picked up this quick read from Netgalley both because I am a fan of the author and because the book description appealed to me. There actually is a place near me, a center, where different "generations" interact and have the opportunity to better learn to understand each other. Although our includes some services, like a cafeteria, exercise and social areas, it does not have the residential and retail aspects of The Kinsey Falls Living and Retail Community Center. I wish it did!

I just finished "Hightail It to Kinsey Falls" by Gayle Leeson, and I already have decided to buy a copy for my niece.
I am a fan of cozy mysteries so I wasn't sure what to expect from Gayle (Trent) Lesson here- but it is PERFECT for your summer tote bag!
"Hightail It" reads much like a cozy mystery would, but instead focuses on relationships and intentions. I loved being introduced to Jade, her grandma, Millie, and their friends at Kinsey Falls and the downstairs shops.

Hightail It to Kinsey Falls is the 1st book in the Kinsey Falls series by Gayle Leeson.

I really enjoyed this and thought it was a great start to a new series.

Millie is a hoot. I’d love to have a neighbor like her. Terri, Jade, Greta, and Caleb were all likable characters and provided an enjoyable story with a healthy dose of humor and romance.

The interactions between the seniors and the young professionals was a lot of fun and I think there is a lot to learn from each other while attending dan

Very fun enjoyable book, perfect for a light beach read. It all takes place in a small community where they’ve turned an old mall into small apartments for seniors and young professionals. When one of the seniors finds a baby opossum and takes it to the pet shop for advice on what to do she meets a charming young man who she thinks would be perfect for her shy nervous granddaughter. While finding an animal rehab and saving the opossum she decides to also do a little matchmaking. Contemporary lig ...more

Kinsey Falls is not what I expected, but it was a fun cozy read. It was a great quick read. I loved the concept of the community apartments with the shops on the bottom. Millie and Greta were the stars. Millie finds a baby possum and takes it to the Hightail pet shop and meets Caleb, the manager. They form a bond over the animal. Millie thinks he would be good for her stick in the mud granddaughter.

I loved this book! It is a wonderful view into what will be a hit series!
Take an abandoned shopping mall, turn it into an apartment building with all the necessary stores for your living needs and you have a wonderful, new way of living!
Business, friendship and love abound in this book!
It is an easy, quick read, one that you can finish in an evening.
I highly recommend it and I am waiting for the next one!

I received this e-book from Netgalley and this is my honest review.
I listened to this book on Audible. The narrator was fantastic. I really enjoyed this recording. The story was interesting and fun! I learned some things I didn’t know. I love the characters. I even enjoyed the author notes and acknowledgments. I do recommend this book! Read it. Especially if you love wildlife. Possum. I had a good time with this and I think you will to. I can’t wait to read more of this story.

this was a prize book. it was great to read, might not have read if it was not part of the prize. although, it was short and a fast read it did a lot. it highlighted the differences in the generations. it especially how each generation might view the same thing. the end was good and tied into the next book in the series. also want to try the recipes for turkey and the cake.

A delightful romance. Family relationships. A cat and a possum. Senior citizens and young professionals. All of which contribute to an engaging and entertaining tale. Delighted to have won this book in the author's contest. I look forward to future visits to Kinsey Falls. Short and sweet. Just what is needed for a pleasant, relaxing and entertaining read.

I liked the characters and the idea of repurposing a mall into a combination retail and mixed age living facility sounds like a great idea for real life. This was a fun story and I’m looking forward to the next one in the series.

A fun new series from Gayle Leeson!!

Kinsey Falls is a community of a seniors and young professionals, the community is full of quirky and very like able characters for sure. The story is fun and lighthearted with humor and romance rounding everything together. I absolutely loved Millie, she is awesome. I’m definitely looking forward to more visits to Kinsey Falls with the gang.

I will admit that for some reason I thought this was the first book in a new cozy series. But there was no murder! Other than the absence of a killer, this was a wonderful little story that is the start to a hopefully wonderful little series. I loved the concept of the redeveloped shopping center to provide a community for seniors and young professionals both to live along with an upscale retail center. I did not love how it felt like the author was purposefully highlighting stereotypes for the ...more

For such a short book, a novella really, this was painfully slow. There wasn’t much of a plot, or a good deal of character development.

This book was about family, friendship, and the blossoming relationship between store owner Jade and handsome graduate student Caleb. Jade was burned by a popular boy at her high school, and she never quite recovered. Her grandmother, Millie, makes it her purpose to get Jade to come out of her shell and start dating. Fortunately, Caleb and Jade are the perfect m
