New Orleans-based design community Degrees of Separation has produced a new book to showcase the post-Katrina work created by the area’s artists. The book highlights work by over 20 designers connected to the area through the Degrees of Separation community site, and shows a personal response by each of them to the hurricane. “The title of the project was ironic after the hurricane dispersed many of us across the country,” commented founder and featured designer Samia Saleem. “After Hurricane Katrina, Degrees of Separation was transformed into an outlet to share our experiences and reflections.” When Katrina struck, the design community relied on AIGA’s Displaceddesigner.com site to help find work space. “Now there seems to be a stronger community, and more publications are coming out of New Orleans because of the storm,” says Samia. Degrees of Separation is available now and five per cent of proceeds will go towards the AIGA New Orleans Design Educational Fund. - Computer Arts Magazine, February 2007
