2/1/13 This book is a biography of J.R.R. Tolken. I learned that his mother lived in England and father in southern Africa. His father died when he was still at a young age, the place where he grew up was his inspiration for writing the hobbit. His mother home schooled him well enough to pass the entry exam and earn entry to a prestigious school. He did pass but it wasn't enough to get the grant that they were banking on to pay for the school; fortunately his uncle was kind enough to pay for his schooling. Later on in his life he found that he enjoyed fantasy books. When he went to college he spent years studying Beowulf. While he was there because he felt like no one understood him so he socially withdrew, that's until he met C.S. Louis and they became friends; after all they were the few to have the same major.
