London McCaffrey made a deal to get revenge at any cost. Her target? One of Charleston’s most influential men. But his brother, gorgeous race-car driver Harrison Crosby, stands in her way as a sexy distraction. He’s unleashed a torrent of desire that could catch London in her own web of deception. Will her best-laid plans backfire, breaking both their hearts?

This book gave me some more of what I wanted at the end of the previous one: more of the ‘meat’ to the story of the revenge plot. Having read the first book in the series, I don’t feel quite so much like I’m missing big pieces of the story, but I do think the book ends before it’s completely over. I liked the romance between Harrison and London. I enjoyed seeing how he encouraged her to step away from the expectations of others and be true to what she wanted in her heart. And how she was able to do that with his support. I really would have liked to see some resolution with the bad actors in their families. His brother is doing things that he needs to answer for, and her mother has treated her horribly. I wanted to see the moment of justice. I’m hopeful that the next book will provide me with all the closure I’m looking for.
Substitute Seduction is the second book in the Sweet Tea and Scandals series. This book explores the story of London, who was the society woman that the hero Linc left in Upstairs Downstairs Baby who was now seeking revenge for being left behind by targeting his brother, Harrison. For the promise of a revenge story the component if revenge between the characters does not take place as much as I hoped it would. The characters had physical chemistry but I felt their relationship lacked enough tension to keep interest beyond the bedroom. However Cat Schield’s way of describing the glamor of Charleston and the sex scenes between the characters were very racy…which brought me back into the novel and gave this book a 3/5 stars rating for me. When the happily ever after to this story came around, I was eager to continue reading this series. I also posted this review on my blog: https://glamorousbookgal.blogspot.com...
This book is ok, but there are a lot of secrets and deception. I liked the romance, but I’m not sure I understand how this revenge plot works and I’m not sure this is really a standalone story. I have not read Linc’s story, but it sounds like his story is unraveling in this one, unless his story is simultaneous with this one which I don’t know. A lot left hanging with Tristan and Zoe as well so I assume that story comes out at some point.
