I was expecting this book to be more of a humorous take on how to live your life like your dog. You know the meme, "if you cant eat it or play with it, pee on it and walk away." And some of the book was like this. I definitely enjoyed the parts that were in Sadie's point of view and the anecdotes about other dogs.

The rest of the book was part memoir, part self help - with advice from real life experiences of Sadie's co-author, along with quotes from history or psychologists. It felt a little bit like a lecture at times. And that doesn't necessarily make this a bad book, its just not for me.

The cartoons and pictures of Sadie are also wonderful.

I enjoy reading books about animals, business books and how to be happy(ier) in life ... this book is a combination of all three. And how could I resist with the picture of Sadie on the cover?

Scott MacDonald is a retired CEO and had a career working on commercial real estate projects throughout the world. Sadie is his rescue dog. Together they have written this book to provide us with their advice, wisdom and experience.

The lessons/chapters include:

* Looking for treats
* Being persistent
* Communicating better
* Living in the moment
* Planning your escape
* Avoiding certain dogs
* Knowing when to bark
* Watching out for hoses
* Embracing change
* Being a good sniffer
* Chasing cars
* Earning trust and choosing partners
* Eat, sleep and play
* Being loyal
* Training people
* Everyone needs a job
* Selecting the right leash
* Taking advantage of opportunities
* Getting the basics right
* Leaving your mark
* Sadie's twelve most important lessons for a better life

Sadie starts each chapter with her view of the lesson as it relates to her dog world. Then Scott gives us his perspective on how to put the lesson in place from a human's perspective. Also included are stories of Sadie's doggy friends and other dogs as they relate to the lessons, pictures of Sadie (so cute!) and cartoons.

I liked this book and I liked the writing style. Sadie's point of view was more fun but what else would you expect from a dog? Both Sadie and Scott provided good reminders about how to be happy in life and successful at work in their own way.

Scott MacDonald and his dog Sadie have provided a good blueprint for how to be happy in life and successful at work. Scott MacDonald has a wealth of experience and knowledge to give to this story, but Sadie has far more of both, being an astute dog. Through a series of events/episodes, provided to, described for described and explained and explained for the reader by Sadie herself, with Scott’s interpretation and discussion of lessons afterwards, the book can help anyone become a better person/worker. I really enjoyed Sadie’s recounting and descriptions of the events/episodes. I can agree, after reading the book, that Sadie is the one in charge, and we humans only interpret and expand on what she tells us and experiences. This was definitely an interesting and different way for Scott MacDonald to put forth his ideas, and it took hold of me from the get-go. Self-help/self-improvement books are normally not my thing, but I found this one a fascinating read (mostly due to Sadie’s parts of the book, I will be honest). I love dogs, and this just proved how right I am to love them. They definitely can teach us a lot, if we are only open to them. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

I enjoyed the book! Of course there is Sadie and her voice - perfectly done by her buddy Scott! I loved "her" view on things, told in a funny-serious way and also being the truth. The comparisons with humans' lifes and why we can learn a good deal from our dogs fit a great deal - of course, these parts were a bit too long because I couldn't wait until reading Sadie's words again - completely my fault!
And call me happy when I learned that Sadie's beach is just the one where we went to from Germany so very often, making this Solana/Del Mar area home away from home quite often, becaus of just this dog beach. What we learned by watching there is just what the author tells us: that it's how creatures on this Earth should co-exist: tolerant, having fun with life while being determent at the same time, even if it's about chasing a ball along the waves of the Pacific.....

I have to thank the author so much for providing a copy, and also Netgalley! It was my pleasure!!!!!!!
And the biggest thanks to Sadie and her insight on how to live...

I really wanted to like this book. I enjoyed the premise of taking a moment to approach life as our carefree companions would.
However, the writing is terrible! I can't get past the run-on sentences or conversely, overly simple sentences. the author uses the names of his friends and co-workers too liberally for a reader who has no knowledge of who these people are. The paragraphs jump around without any seeming connection. It's as though the author wrote using stream of consciousness without thought of how to tie the paragraphs together cohesively.
Another distraction was the formatting. I understand in an advanced copy how the formatting may not be perfect, but this book has already been released. More care should have been put into how this book would translate to an e-copy.
This is my first, and hopefully my last, 1 star review. I had to stop at about 25% of the book. I simply could not read it with the writing style and formatting issues.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review .
As a huge lover of dogs, this book caught my attention. It is part dog perspective humor, part business book. The chapter about communicating better stood out the most to me, probably because of my place of employment being terrible at communicating to its employees.
Overall, I thought this would be a bit more humorous but it was a good book.

Thinks Like a Dog was quite enjoyable. It's a great book for anyone who is thinking of owning a dog or has a dog. It gives you a better understanding of loyalty, leaving your mark, being a sniffer and their persistence.

It definitely helped me understand them even more my Shiba Inus. Kudos to Scott MacDonald for a great book.

I just couldn't buy into this book. It was ok and I liked Sadie's outlook better than I liked the author's.

I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy from Midnight Ink via Netgalley. These are my own opinions.

Think Like a Dog is a cute book with advice and stories. We all could learn from our pets on how to live life a little and maybe a little less stressed out.

Being a dog lover I couldn’t help but want to read Scott MacDonald’s book. It was really fascinating. I did find the book to be a lot more serious than I had expected it to be; I guess I was expecting more humor for some reason. That may have been my fault. The business end of the book just seemed very pushed and not as honest as the rest.
Sometimes it read as two different books to me.
That being said; I thoroughly enjoyed every viewpoint given from his dog, Sadie. It was very refreshing!
I loved his end of the chapter wrap-ups, that broke everything down for you.
The illustrations and pictures of Sadie’s were definitely adorable and certainly a bonus!

Such an awesome inspiring read! The book starts with Scott’s point of view and he’s not a big animal lover but slowly he changes his thinking when Sadie creeps into his life. Being an animal lover shows much of how I feel like any animal can offer you so much more than you ever realized you actually need! A true story of a dog that was adopted with not much of a choice and slowly crept into Scott’s heart and showed him how much he never realized!
