It’s the one place no rustler ever wants to end up.

Having survived Rondo’s destruction, sixteen-year-old Rags has been taken captive by the Kingdom and sentenced to ‘rehabilitation’ at the Kingdom’s Threshing Floor, a notorious prison camp for hardened criminals. Those who refuse to serve the Kingdom go in…no one comes out.

Faced with this nightmarish reality, Rags is

I received a copy of Garden of Ashes (book 2 of the Snow Spark series) to read and review for my honest opinion from The Parliament Press.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: Gore, Oppression, Violence, Discrimination

This little novel carried a good left hook. It picks up right where The Bone Roses left off and really delves into the background of a few characters. The story still is geared toward a mature audience, especially with Garden of Ashes so beware of more graphic scenes when

Rags, a rustler from now demolished settlement of Rondo, has found herself in the worst place in all of The Kingdom, the Threshing Floor. Here, she is a prisoner of the ruler, Hyperion. One false move means death. However, Rags cannot give up who she is, even in dire circumstances. She continues to save those worse off or weaker than her, she attacks those who look to hurt others and continues to live by the code of the rustlers.

Rags is not alone; the Kingdom's luresman, Colton Fieldson, is by

Garden of Ashes picks up immediately where The Bone Roses leaves off. The pacing for this book is unreal. I found myself losing track of time and reading it in huge chunks. The story is actually reminiscent of a western/steampunk version of The Hunger Games, and I love it!

I did have a few issues with book 2 that carried over from book 1 and became more nagging. I'm not sure if it is the pacing or deliberate since there will be more books to follow, but I kept feeling like I was missing parts.

The second book takes up exactly where the first ended, Frost Flea may not know where she’s going but she’s pretty sure she knows what will happen when she gets there. Her companion is Colton and somewhere on the train is Nigel. Everyone else who survived is back in Rondo. More of a concentration camp than a prison camp, she ends up in The Threshing Floor under the vigilance and secret protection of Oreson. The treatment of not only prisoners but also the slaves here is brutal and harrowing to ...more

This books is love and filled with thrill , you can actually feel you hair behind neck rises while you read this beautiful book and the story is awesome how a female protagonist who is a rebel by nature got caught by kingdom corps and how they treat rebels and torture them, its also about big egos that involves in the drama do well that make this book as excellent and most importantly the fight over protagonist did for her country , family and the fellow prisoners and her mule is the best ...more

I loved this continuation from The Bone Roses. It picks up where the first book left off, jumping right back into the story with no need for backfilling time. The character development continues amazingly and you learn so much more about who Henny & Colton really are in this one. Without any spoilers, I can't wait to see how their relationships with Rags develop!

I feel, like many others it seems, that there are some things that really need to be explained more! The significance of the bone

Great continuation of the first book. Cringe-worthy terror and torture make you want to close it at times but hope for the underdogs keeps you hooked.
