Plain and Simple, I didn't like this one. This book didn't give me any reason to like it.

I didn't even read the blurb. I got this book with another one. I got it free so decided to read it and the result was a disaster. You know, The typical story until you proved your virginity you are a greedy whore. Do I need to give any more explanation?
The only one I cared about is Lorenzo (Hero's Father), He loved his ex-wife but because of the hero's interference, they got divorced 10 years ago.

Stay away from this book.

Mediocre plus an epilogue without a pregnancy is a crappy epilogue as far as I'm concerned. Not a fan of this author. The only thing I liked was that heroine was a virgin. This months Harlequin Presents were pretty bad. I'm so disappointed I need a new book by Jennie Lucas only she can save the line.

This was a struggle to finish because the second half of the story was a long drawn out dull therapy session with the hero learning to find peace with his past. I prefer heroes and heroines getting therapy from mental health professionals before the romance begins.

I was very disappointed the epilogue didn't have a baby in it. All that suspense and no baby is a letdown. I love seeing heroes be daddy to a baby. Especially heroes who resisted admitting they were in love with the heroine.

Kate Hewitt has redeemed herself, in my eyes, with this novel. The last novel I read by her was Ruthless Boss, Hired Wife and I hated it. This novel was better and its hero Cristiano was a far more likable individual that that creature from RBHW. Cristiano had been Laurel's older stepbrother about 10 years prior to the start of the story. Her mother Elizabeth had tried to steal about 2 million euros from his father and Laurel herself ( at the tender age of 14 ) had tried to seduce him ( he had been 23 then ). Cristiano isn't a pedophile so he had, of course, rejected her adolescent advances. However, it had merely compounded the already negative opinion he shared of both her and her mother. He hadn't stopped to think ( do these H's ever do that ? ) that she was just an insecure little girl with overactive hormones and an adolescent crush.

The novel begins with Laurel trying to escape the lecherous clutches of a sleazy sugar daddy wannabe called Rico Bonazzo. Laurel's mother had cajoled her daughter into coming to Rome, to meet her new stepdaddy to be, by offering to give up her half of the home they had both inherited from Laurel's grandfather. Laurel is nothing like her trampy, gold digging mom. She came to Rome only because she had a great sentimental attachment to the old Illinois farmhouse and couldn't afford to pay her mother to buy the gold digger's share. Laurel meets up with her mother and Rico at the H's hotel/casino called La Sirena. Rico seems to be some sort of sleazy criminal and he soon starts pawing Laurel and trying to make her sit on his lap. Laurel was really kinda dumb because she never questioned Rico's lecherous advances until the guy actually tried to rape her. Her mercenary mother does nothing to protect her because that selfish bitch only wants to keep Rico happy and willing to propose to her.

Cristiano sees Laurel and Rico and is filled with distaste and is also super judgemental. He spies on them when they leave the casino; he uses the many security cameras in the hotel to keep an eye on her. He observes when she runs away from Rico and he puts himself in the position of her hero/saviour. Laurel is traumatized by the incident and reluctantly accepts Cristiano's assistance. Laurel is still hot for Cristiano but there's the sad little 14 yr old girl inside her that is angry because of his rejection all those years ago. This made me roll my eyes at her because common sense would dictate that since she is now a woman of 24, she should be smart enough to applaud him for rejecting the advances of a 14 yr old.

What follows is a lot of angst and sexy times between the MC's. Cristiano is shocked to find out that Laurel's a virgin and since he hadn't used a condom ( gasp ! ) she has to stay with him for 2 weeks until they can discern whether she's pregnant or not. Cristiano says it's the only time in his life that he's had sex without a condom. I guess Laurel must have some extra special pheromones to have had such an effect on him ( Sigh ). The MC's get to know each other better and Cristiano is confused about her because he is surprised to discover that she's a nurse, who specializes in palliative care for dying patients. He finds himself developing real feelings for her but, like is the norm in HPlandia, he fights it. Laurel falls in love with him but doesn't dare to hope for anything permanent. Cristiano also provides her with a fancy new wardrobe and she gets a full spa type treatment in her hotel room ( she gets all the skincare fixings except maybe a vajacial ).

There's also the side story line that deals with his dad and her mom becoming friends again. The author attempts to redeem the gold digging mama by explaining that it was her fear of poverty that made her steal the 2 million euros ( cue massive eyeroll here ). I have to admit that I didn't want to actually like the mother but she seemed to have become a better human being with a less mercenary attitude. There's a very short separation between the MC's but Cristiano soon acknowledges how much he misses her and loves her. He's the first to declare his love. He goes to her home in Illinois and proposes. Of course she accepts. The epilogue deals with their wedding and it was nice to see Laurel's mom being a better mother to her daughter. I did wish, however, that the epilogue had been set further into their future. Three months after his proposal didn't seem to be adequate time to assess whether their HEA would really test the bonds of time.

This novel didn't blow my mind but it prove that Kate Hewitt can create a romance novel where a H is likable and where there is an actual romance !

Loved this book. It was highly emotional and moved me to tears especially toward the end. Liked both main characters. Despite both having contrasting views and personalities --she was a tad bit naive and too forgiving while he was stubborn and unforgiving-- they were amazing together.

The book opens with the heroine, Laurel, running into an elevator of a hotel having run away from the suite of a lecherous sixty-year old man. She presses random buttons and the elevator takes her to the penthouse floor. The penthouse and the hotel she then discovers belongs to her step-brother Cristiano. Her mother had been married to his father for three years, but in that time Laurel had only met Cristiano twice. The second time was when he'd come to tell his father about Laurel's mother siphoning money from him and putting it into an offshore account in her name. However, Laurel, who had a massive crush on him, didn't know that and in a weak girlish attempt to impress him had kissed him, but he'd shoved her away as if she disgusted him. It was because of Laurel's mother that he'd severed ties with his own father.

Cristiano was in the casino when Laurel first walked in dressed like a hooker, on the arm of a man who made his skin crawl. Furthermore, she let Rico Bavasso pull her on to his lap, laughed at his jokes while her mother watched from a distance then left with him to his room. He was in no doubt she was following her amoral, gold-digger mother's footsteps and mother and daughter were jointly playing a game. In the past ten years since the mother's divorce from his father, the mother had been coming often to Cristiano's hotel with different men some even younger than her. He hadn't seen Laurel until today.

From his room as he was checking the hotel cameras, he saw Laurel fleeing Bavasso's suite and realizing she needed rescuing he had the elevator bring her straight up to him. Heat flared between them when they met and he could see she wanted him as much he wanted her, but found she was fighting it. When he proposes a no-strings sex between them she acts like an outraged virgin. He however wasn't taken by her act. He still felt it was all a part of some game, only he couldn't figure out what.

Laurel wasn't playing any games. She was nothing like her mother who lived off men. She lived a quiet life in a small town in Illinois, working as a nurse, possessing a handful of casual friends, and no boyfriends, ever. Having always been fascinated by Cristiano, she’d followed his exploits on social media and scanned the many tabloid articles about his playboy lifestyle. She'd gone to Rome on her mother's pleading that she meet Bavasso and show him they were a family as she was planning on marrying him. She even promised to sign over to Laurel her half of the farmhouse that Laurel's grandfather had left in both their names after his recent death. Laurel loved the farmhouse and was currently living in it. After the way Bavasso pawed at her, she was happy to be rescued by Cristiano only to realize that she'd jumped from the frying pan into the fire for he'd tarred her with the same brush as her mother, offering his protection against Bavasso in exchange for no-strings sex.

After his soul-shattering kiss, she found herself fighting for self-preservation. She was a virgin and wasn't experienced like Cristiano, who she could see wasn't as affected by the kiss as she was. With that kiss he had her craving for more of him and she knew once she had sex with him her life would be charred forever. To protect herself from succumbing to his expert seduction, she locked herself in the bedroom of his penthouse.

When Cristiano had taken Laurel in his arms, it had been to prove something to her as well as to himself, but found he’d had to use all his self-control, all of his deeply ingrained self-discipline, to keep from giving in to the tidal roar of need inside him and drowning in her kiss. He further didn't like he was beginning to care about her. All these years, he'd kept himself away from any softer emotions leave alone actual love because according to him love was for fools like his father who'd been both fleeced and heartbroken by grasping women like Laurel's mother and the wife before that. But, something about Laurel was getting to him. He spends a sleepless night searching about her on the internet and is shocked to know she's a RN. However, having, himself, seen her behavior with Bavasso at the casino it only confused him as to which of the two was the real Laurel Forester.

He then finds Laurel in the grips of a bad nightmare over Bavasso and goes to her room to soothe. Laurel is surprised when Cristiano holds her tenderly and compassionately and cradled so intimately in his arms, she feels the sweet fire burning between them and suddenly wants to go all the way with him, even if it was temporary. Cristiano is further shocked to discover that she was a virgin. And, since he'd assumed she was protected against pregnancy, he didn't use protection himself, which was why he later tells her to stay with him for the two weeks it required for them to know if they'd conceived a child. Also, since both came to the conclusion that they were not looking for anything emotional and the sex between them was good, they'd enjoy each other for those two weeks and after two weeks, if there was no child, they'd both go their own away.

But, day by day Cristiano was making the discovery that Laurel was no gold digger like her mother, rather a woman who worked hard to ease the burdens and sorrows for others, a woman who'd been willing to put her own ambitions aside to care for her grandfather who'd been stricken with dementia during his last few months. It amazed and humbled him. And, he finds that he has to keep reminding himself that the two week affair was only about fantastic sex and absolutely no strings and no emotions. But, at the charity gala in Paris as he watches other men lapping up her words as she spoke passionately about rehabilitative care, he was consumed by jealousy, which incites him on to do something that hurts Laurel. I really liked how Laurel puts her foot down and doesn't take the humiliation. And, I liked that he apologizes immediately which leads to a honest conversation between the two of them.

From then on they started to relax and enjoy their time together. Cristiano also takes her to Capri to see his father. The scene where Lorenzo, Cristiano's father, welcomes Laurel back with open arms had me in tears. In the three years, he'd been married to her mother, he'd been a true father to her.

The scenes from the time they visit Lorenzo till the end is charged with angst and tension and I found myself reaching for the tissue every now and then starting with Laurel making the heartbreaking discovery about Cristiano's father and Cristiano not knowing how to deal with it. Add to it, the expiry of Laurel and Cristiano's time together was drawing close and the uncertainty of what's going to happen to the two of them whether Laurel was pregnant or not.

Laurel wanted to have Cristiano's baby but having fallen in love with him, she also hoped she wasn't pregnant because she wanted to see if Cristiano would ask her to stay back even if there were to be no pregnancy. Nevertheless, before they could make the discovery, Laurel does what Lorenzo asks her to do for him even though she knew Cristiano would be very angry when he got to know about it. But, it was something she had no choice but to do. Besides, unlike Cristiano, despite the mistakes and sorrows of the past, she believed in forgiveness, redemption, hope. However, like Cristiano, I was finding it difficult to believe in the sudden positive change in her mother, who only two weeks ago, encouraged her daughter to flirt with an elderly man.

It was obvious to everyone that Cristiano was in love with Laurel, but he was a stubborn, unforgiving ass. He was trying to hide that sensitive soul beneath is hardened exterior and thereby hurting the people he loved Laurel and his father. I really felt like knocking him on the head at times, and at times, like Laurel, I wanted to take him in my arms and hug him tight and squeeze out all the pain, the despair, the negativity that was inside him.

I would recommend this book to anyone, who, like me, likes a good emotional and angsty book.

A vostro rischio e pericolo XD

3.5 star, it's another light read for me, and i really enjoyed the plot and MC. There's a line there about how people focus on getting better which is normal but they tend to forget or don't want to think about what happens when they can't (as the h, works in a hospice as nurse) and it stays with me, as I'm currently frustrated with my work right now as a physiotherapist dealing with patient in palliative care. The story just make me think things despite it being a light read for me, you know story without any cheating MC or other people who wants to be with H or h (my loose definition of light read in HP)

This was a good romance, maybe a little better than average, but not much. I loved the fact that Laurel has a real profession. She's a hospice care nurse, and she has roots in Illinois that feel important to her. She loves her home better than the glamorous life that Cristiano can give her in Italy.

On the other hand, I wasn't crazy about the stepbrother-stepsister set up. That always feels faintly incestuous to me. And it drove me nuts the way Laurel's mother Elizabeth is introduced as an absolutely heartless manipulator, the kind of user who literally sets her daughter up with a Harvey from Miramax style rapist and abuser in the opening scene. But by the end of the book, she's nursing her ex, Cristiano's father, and comforting him with her soft and nurturing presence. When characters jerk back and forth like that it's because the author is working the plot mechanically, not letting it grow out of the real needs of the characters.

Overall the best thing was the first chapter or two, where Laurel is literally running for her life from the creep her mother set her up with, and Cristiano takes her in and makes a proposition she can't refuse. But after that tough, sexy opening things get more and more sentimental and the heat level of the sex scenes suffers as a result.

I'd give this a B plus, I guess.

I had the advantage of the author sending me this book early in return for a review it was a really good book and easy to read from start to finish. Full of families and romance and well worth reading. Poor laural has knowing to turn to in Rome but her stepbrother but even though a dangerous chemistry had been between them she worried she is like her mother and manipulative so can he get past that or not. Laural knows she us vulnerable but can she get through that or not. He decides to have one night of sin to get her out of his mind but does this happen or do they desire each other more well worth reading very quick read and great characters.

The Innocent’s One Night Surrender by Kate Hewitt is the story of a woman whose desperate choices lead her into the arms of a man she never thought she’d see again.

When Laurel Forrester was a teenager, her mother Elizabeth married and subsequently divorced Lorenzo Ferrero when Lorenzo’s son Cristiano discovered that Elizabeth had embezzled money from his father. Several years later, Laurel is in Rome to meet her mother’s latest boyfriend, a sleazy man who tries to assault her. Escaping from his hotel room, she ends up in the penthouse suite of the hotel, which is owned by none other than Cristiano! Her teen-aged crush on her older stepbrother went nowhere of course, but now that she’s an adult, she can’t deny that she’s still attracted to him. But she’s not going to give into it so easily.

Cristiano isn’t sure what kind of game Laurel is playing but doesn’t believe she’s innocent. After all, she’s been raised by the woman who tried to cheat his father out of millions and who has since gone on to find one sugar daddy after another. He’s willing to offer her his protection in return for certain favors – though he soon realizes that her innocence is genuine. They share a passionate night together, and to be sure there’s no unexpected consequences he insists she spend the next two weeks with him until she can take a pregnancy test. Plus, in public it can be made clear that he’s her protector, to prevent any further problems. Laurel agrees to be seen with Cristiano and they travel to several continental European cities. But when their two weeks is up will Cristiano be willing to admit that he’s not ready to let Laurel go?

This book did not start off on the greatest for me and kind of skewed my view of the entire book. The book opened with Laurel running for her life after a man attempted to rape her, which just happened to be her mother’s boyfriend. Her mother set up, I know she said she didn’t know the guy was going to do that, but still it felt very much like a setup to me no matter what she said, Then after the attack, Cristiano, the hero, “rescued” her and kept her safe only to be very accusatory of her calling her gold digger and slut and other names and even accused her of putting herself in that position to be rape, though he did take it back later, since she went to his hotel room with this guy. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Cristiano propositioned her to be his mistress as his price for keeping her safe. So for those plethora of reasons I was immediately turned off way the story started and frankly I was turn off by him, and it really hard for me to be on his side during the story. I just kept thinking of what he did and how treated her in the beginning, and it was really hard to forgot, and carried all the way through.

It was just really hard to get into this romance and be for it. Honestly I didn’t believe it. It lacked a lot of believability that they were actually falling in love with each other. I couldn’t see it. I didn’t feel it. Just it never felt right for me. I just wasn’t a hundred percent fan of them as a couple.

The pieces were there of a romance novel, but again I didn’t feel it. There was some angst, but not enough for me. There was tension with all the misunderstandings that he had about Laurel, believing she was like her mother, who was one time his stepmother, but the misunderstandings just were very unfair to Laurel. They had a history together, but it was kind of a blip in the story and never addressed really and just brushed over. I would have preferred if they had more of a history and feelings had been more part of the equation. Just his behavior was way over the top for me.

Now there were a few bright spots to the story, and mostly that was when Cristiano wasn’t acting like freaking I do it. I liked when he comforted her when she was having a nightmare of her assault and just held her. That was a sweet moment between them. I liked that after he started seeing her for who she truly was that he planned a romantic getaway to Capri to see his father, who she had thought of as her father and was ripped away cruelly when their parents divorce. There were just little tender moments between them that were really good, and I wish there were more of them because that was the highlight for me.

The passion between them was steamy and they did have some good chemistry. I didn’t agree totally about how the first time happened between them, but at least it was a good time for both of them. The first time scene was more about comfort, closeness and passion more than anything else. The other passionate scenes were kind of brief and just offered a little taste, and I wanted to see a little more. I wanted to see their bond and closeness grow the more time they came together. Instead they were kind of blips, but good blips. I did like the tender kisses that they shared though throughout the book so that was good.

Overall, there were parts I liked but it got little bit overshadowed by the beginning. Just so much happened in such a short space of time that it was almost too much. Then combine that to his unwarranted reaction just really turned me off and really made it hard for me to get into the romance. It was hard to be for them because of his early treatment of her. It took him a long time to chill out and see her for what she was and not just treat her as mistress meant for his pleasure alone. His attitude was very disconcerting for most of the book. Like I said it was a little bit of turn off. It did have angst, tension and misunderstanding which I like in a romance. There was also a history between them, which I enjoy as well, but I think all of these could have been amplified and focused more on that than they other stuff in the beginning. This would have brought more of an intensity and edge to it. It would have added a exciting charge to the story. Because me the charge wasn’t completely there, and it needed to be in order for me to get over the beginning and have me focus more on the romance and give it more of chance, but I just couldn’t over the beginning. It was just too hard for me.

He thinks she's a scheming gold-digger, she thinks he's cruel and heartless ... but each time they've crossed paths, they've felt the tingling of attraction! The plot grabbed my attention from the very first page and each tidbit more of information from their past led to a fulfilling story.

Nurse Laurel Forrester never expected a quick trip to Rome at her mother's request to turn into her running down the halls of a hotel trying to get away from a would-be attacker! She's shocked when the room she stumbles into holds none other than her former step-brother whom she hasn't seen in over a decade!

Owner of the hotel Cristiano Ferrero saw Laurel in need of help and though he loathes her family, he saw fit to help her escape ... for the moment. He's sure she's up to the same manipulations that her mother is famous for, but he's always had a strong sexual attraction for her, so why not keep her as his very own for the night to get the lust out of their system? When he finds out he's her first, that just might lead him to want to keep her forever!

Kind of boring. The H and h were step siblings ten years ago. The h at 14 then having a teen crush on the H came on to him. He pushed her away and though she was just like her gold digging mother who stole 2 million dollars from his father. The story starts up with the h running to an elevator to escape the clutches of a man in his sixties that her 47 year old mother sold her to (she claimed that the man wanted to marry her but he wanted to flirt with the 24 year old h as he was feeling his age.)
The H owns the hotel, sees everything on security cameras and sends the h up to his penthouse, thinking she grew up to be just like her mother always looking for a sugar daddy to bankroll her.
A lackluster relationship ensue between these two then they find out the H's dad is slowly dying and the h's mom pretend to care about him to get his money while saying she loved him and would never have left him, that she only stole his money so she wouldn't be poor.

Typical Harlequin fare. Rich ex -step-brother rescues girl, falls in love with her.
Desperate to escape a predatory suitor, Laurel Forrester has no one to turn to in Rome but her stepbrother, Cristiano Ferrero. A dangerous chemistry has always burned between them, even if he believes her to be exactly like her manipulative mother. And trapped in his luxurious penthouse, Laurel realizes how vulnerable she is to his raw magnetism…

Cristiano desires Laurel just as much as he despises her. Intent on getting her out of his system, he proposes one night of sin. But Laurel’s surprising inexperience only increases his thirst for her, and makes Cristiano determined to entice her to surrender again…and again!

Amor, desconfianza y dinero.

Kate Hewitt has hit the ball out of the park with this one. The Innocent’s One-Night Surrender is so, so good. The raw passion between Cristiano and Laurel is intense, hot and consuming. I finished the book in a matter of hours. The plot was engrossing, the dialogue intense and the lush prose along with the passionate yet deeply flawed characters swept me away. I just couldn’t get enough!

Christiano was the sexy handsome billionaire step-brother who Laurel had a crush on during her mother’s short marriage to his father. Laurel’s mother was a gold digger and a terrible mother but she had always been in love with Lorenzo. Things happened and Laurel ends up in Christian’s penthouse and sparks go flying and the two stay together for two weeks, it’s a roller coaster ride.

After I finished reading this book at 3 am, I automatically reviewed this to let others know the reason I will not go to school today because I finished this lovely whirlwind book. This is one of harlequin's book about real intimacy.
