Falling for Mr. Slater

Rate this book
He was the worst teacher I ever had. I was the worst student he ever taught.

ROXIE RAMBLING

I can’t believe I’m standing on the steps of Bracken Middle School again.

Ten years ago, this place was my worst nightmare, no thanks to Jack “McSlutbag” Slater, the teacher who blocked my shot at a full basketball scholarship. But time heals many wounds, and I’m only a few months away from earning my undergrad in education, despite the hell Slater once put me through.

Now I’m the teacher. I’ll help kids rather than destroy them. If I can just get through this semester without too many fouls, I’ll be fine.

But it’s not fine. Because when I go to meet my new supervisor, McSlutbag’s sitting behind the desk, looking like a gorgeous, vengeful god ready to mete out punishment for slights—some real, most perceived—committed by the hellion I used to be.

Worse? The cold hatred I once felt for him has turned hot enough to set my drawers on fire.

I want him. In a bad way.

So long, dream internship. Hello, sexy nemesis.

McSlutbag’s about to meet his match. Again.

Check out my latest book written under the pen name Kendall Day ...

He was the worst teacher she ever had.

She was the worst student he ever taught.

Both hold grudges they refuse to let go.

Eight years later, Jack Slater and Roxie Rambling are forced to work together at a struggling school full of wild kids, vindictive teachers, and a new principal known as the Dragonlady, while trying to snuff out the sizzling attraction between them that grows hotter every day. What could possibly go wrong?

Perfect for readers who enjoy laugh-out-loud romantic comedies.

* Note to my readers: This is NOT erotica, but it does contain some smokin'-hot sex. ;-)

Falling for Mr. Slater

Why yes I have!!! Lol

Y’all, I just love me some Kendall Grey and this book is written by her…umm alter ego~ Kendall Day. I did make sure this was OK to share… I stalked Kendall Grey all over social media and she even mentions it at the end of the book that she wrote with a pen name. I was just jumping for joy cuzz I love LOVE me sum Kendall Grey!!! This woman is always a one clicker for me and let me tell you that I fell in love with this Kendall Day’s writing as well. Falling for Mr. Slater had me in stitches at times laughing at some of the shenanigans that went on in this book. It was priceless. Lol

So this book is about…well, Mr. Slater. He is trying hard to be Teacher of the Year. After a night of drinking at the local bar the night before school starts. He is partying with some of his fellow teachers and he reminisces on some of the terrible kids he has taught over the years. He tells some doozy stories from years ago about one particular student that just about ruined him from teaching and caused a huge relationship issue.

Low and behold he returns to his class after summer break and he finds out he has been moved to another class and that he will now have a student teacher. Well guess who his new student teacher is??? The terrible kid he taught years ago that just about ruined his life. Ohhh poor Mr. Slater, he really has his work cut out for him now and this student is all grown up and she likes wearing short, tight little outfits now and Mr. Slater is having a hard time focusing on his curriculum. hahaha

I gave Falling for Mr. Slater 5 “OMG I love Kendall Day/Gray” iScream Cones!!! Make sure you pick this book up on release day and find out if Mr. Slater can handle this classroom with this sassy little student teacher and will he even get to see his dreams come true of being Teacher of the Year?

Scandal, teachers straining at their leashes and all the dirty things beneath the buttoned-up collars in middle school. Well then. Kendall Day’s ‘Falling For Mr. Slater’ sounded like one of those enemies-to-lovers romance that I’d love to have gotten my hands on. Written around a student-teacher type of relationship, I was well, sold by the attractive blurb, up until the opening lines of the story that made me want to toss it in immediately.

But apparently, to add spice to a teacher-student romance is to get a manwhore-teacher who goes around bagging women and brags about it during a summer screwfest pair up with his greatest nightmare of a student, all the while conveniently blaming his damaged mentality on commitment on said character. Really?

But I guessed the nickname ‘McSlutbag’ should have given me a clue to what a prick this male protagonist could be, because the teachers I know (and I’ve been there myself personally a long time ago in a galaxy far away) just don’t behave that way—they’re simply stressed about everything both in and out of the classroom.

Whatever free time they have is spent on a hurried vacation being stressed about other things and I’m sure teachers separate their scandalous private lives from their professional ones, though there’s seldom a clear line drawn because the latter often spills into the former.

And the talk about McSlutbag’s former student’s ‘gorgeous’ body in crude terms? I cringed and cringed (hits close to home as well, considering there was a case like this this I’ve seen that brought serious consequences). On the flip side, Roxie-moxie is the equivalent of McSlutbag, only a decade behind in terms of professional experience. Everything else, she’s done it and is only slightly none the wiser about this.

Written as a rom-com, ‘Falling For Mr. Slater’ did feel as though typical archetypes of romance protagonists were simply forced into the teacher and student roles and Jack Slater and Roxie Rambling do fit in those to a ’T’. The thought of a bad-girl student to rock Slater’s expectations and what they’ve apparently done to each other in the past kept me plodding on—for a chapter or two more before I simply stopped reading because I objected to pretty much everything.

At this point, it's probably best to leave it at ‘it’s not you, it’s me’.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

This job can suck. After teaching eighth grad gifted language arts for years, I'm being moved to remedial sixth grade science. New team. New subject. New everything. Oh and did I mention science now includes sex ed? Some of these kids-like that hellion Roxie Rambling, who a decade later still hold the title of My Worst Student Ever-probably know more about sex than me, and I'm an expert on the subject. To add insult to injury, I've been assigned an intern from the local college. I need to focus on winning Teacher of the Year, not waste my charm, wit, and ruggedly handsome looks on coddling some bimbo playing teacher. Just when it can't possibly get worse, a twenty-one-year-old, hot-as-hell Roxie Rambling darkens my door, wearing a red mini skirt, four inch heels, and an ID that reads "Student Teacher". So long Teacher of the Year. Hello, trouble - in the classroom and in my pants.

I love this book and in case you do not know this is Kendall Grey writing as Kendall Day. I have read almost all of her books and was so excited to get my hands on a teacher/student romance. Well I am calling it that since she was his former student and is still in college. Mr. Slater has huge plans for this year and the top priority is winning Teacher of the Year. He loves his advance eighth grade classes but a change in principles and some vindictive other teachers and he find himself in hell. He is changed to sixth grade science and has a student teacher. The one and only Roxie with and ie Rambling. His worst student ever and he wants nothing to do with her being his student teacher. Let the fun begin. I loved watching these two develop a relationship that Mr. Slater wants nothing to do with and after the first day of school, a disruptive student, a punishment that isn't what he thinks it should be he is officially losing it. I loved how Roxie brought out a different side of him and how one day her way of teaching finally taught him something and he realized that maybe just maybe he has been doing this wrong for years. This is story that you don't want to miss. There are characters you will love. Some you won't and it all leads to some shocking and heart melting moments. Oh and get ready to fall for Savage too. You will see who he is when you read this book. This is one you do not want to miss.

I absolutely loved Jack & Roxie!!!! I'm a huge Kendall Gray fan so I jumped all over the chance to read this book, and I fell head over heels for it! Kendall has this way of hooking you from the first page and I couldn't put this down once I started. The banter was so witty and these characters had me laughing out loud. So good. So, so, so good!

I love a sexy teacher romance, so, knowing who the author was, I had to get my eyes on this book. It did not disappoint! Roxie is sassy with equal parts sexy and sporty. I loved her character and how she stuck up for "those kids" while taking no crap off anyone else. Mr. Slater, while a bit on the obnoxious side due to how self-absorbed he was in the beginning, definitely redeemed himself for me by the end. I'm not a huge fan of a-hole male leads because I don't find that very appealing, but I'm all for character evolving, and that's exactly what this author did with Slater's character.

Being a teacher, I enjoyed the authenticity of the education portion of the book. You can tell by reading that the author has experience in the school setting (a former teacher per her bio). I also enjoyed the language in this book (no, not the ugly words), as I do with all books from this author. I'm a sucker for alliteration--figurative language in general, honestly--and Falling for Mr. Slater had plenty to give me my fix. The figurative language game is strong with this author!

Falling for Mr. Slater was a fun, sexy, gratifying read! Highly recommended!

I'm a HUGE Kendall Gray fan, so when I found out she was releasing a rom-com under the pen name Kendall Day I jumped at the chance to read it. And I wasn't let down. Once again this author reminded me why I ADORE her works!

Falling For Mr Slater was different from her past books, but just as fabulous. I was hooked from the start. A story about a teacher and his new teaching assistant who happens to be the girl who ruined his life.

I loved the Mr Slater and Roxie with an ie storyline. I found myself laughing so hard at times. The storyline quirky and different but I ADORED the characters. Falling for Mr Slater had the perfect amount of humor, romance, and dirty talk. I highly recommend this book!!!

Who's Hot For Teacher? . . .

Having recently witnessed my sister endured her final year of student teaching and state exams for teaching certification, and let me just state for a fact, her time was more stress then sex. Unlike this book which was a great work of fiction with a heart warming theme and some sexy scenes.

Mr. Jack Slater is anything but ready for the new school year since he's just met the new 'dragon lady' principal, been moved from 8th grade to 6th grade, has to now teach science and has been assigned a student teacher. So when he meets the student teacher and she turns out to be an old student THE Roxie Ramblings, who was the bane of his first year teaching, Mr. Slater is anything but happy. Roxie can't believe she assigned to the teacher who made her life hell, all she wants to do now is prove all Mr. Slater wrong and show him that she is capable of anything. Now if only the two could agree on how a class can be taught or how to deal with disruptive kids, while trying not to let that unspoken or unwanted attraction pop up, then maybe Mr. Slater and Miss Roxie Ramblings may get through the semester.

Overall, really enjoyed this read, the characters were hot for each other and made a real impact on their students lives. Teachers are unsung heroes, they truly have the power to lift up or destroy their students. So seeing Roxie re-enter Mr. Slater's life and change his perspective on how or why he teaches and having him see that a little love and attention can improve the students lives tremendously was wonderful to read. Of course all the hot sexy scenes of ex-group of student with hot brutish teacher were definitely great too. Especially when Mr. Slater realizes his McSlutbag days may just be over and he may have found his cinderella in basketball shoes. So if you want to read a story where a bad girl returns to make good and helps an old teacher learn new tricks, then this will be a great read.

This book gahh this book is so awesome!! I don’t think I will come up with the words to properly describe this book and how much I enjoyed it. It was funny, it was sexy, it was hawt, it was raunchy and it was adorable but underneath it all there was a message. Slater was such a typical guy going out with his wingman Savage (which I loved btw) and having all kinds of fun. And then teaching during the week and of course the school year. But not really paying attention to the trouble kids just punishing them and going on. Roxie with i e was one of those trouble makers his very first year of teaching and now is his student teacher. Besides her being hot she is still being a trouble in his backside. But she teaches him how to figure out why and how to figure out the trouble makers. And to see what’s underneath and I love that about this book, not to look at what’s being shown but try to find out what’s underneath. I love all these characters and the crazy names that makes so much sense if you pay attention. I hope some get their own books because I would love to revisit all of these characters. I’m not giving you much besides you will laugh and you will be like omg!! And you will definitely be like oh no she didn’t say that or go there but it’s so awesome and I freakin love it!! I highly recommend this book!!!! - By Tina

I was so excited to get a chance to read this. Honestly I love Kendall Day and her other personality Kendall Grey. She didn't fail me with this Rom-Com, I laughed all through out this story.

Mr. Slater is a 8th grade teacher who is trying his hardest to win Teacher of the Year. This year however, things in his school and life get tossed all around. Enter Roxie Rambling, student teacher. Roxie is the last person that he wants as his student teacher. Roxie and Mr. Slater have a history from way back in the day. He was her one of her 8th grade teachers and Roxie was not the easiest of students.

I think one of the things I loved most about this story is Roxy's ability to connect with the kids. She didn't want to fail them like she felt she was back when she was a student. Kendall made me feel like I was sitting in class with the group.

Such a fun and hilarious read, with some hot, and steamy sex thrown into it.

This book had me laughing so hard over the hashtag remarks and the assessments at the end of each chapter.. this book just flowed so nicely and had everything I like in a book. A fiercely independent woman, and swoon worthy, alpha in bed male and a unique love story. And the live scenes....#hothothot

Roxie-with-an-ie Rambling goes back to the scene of her heartache .. 8 years later .. BUT she never dreamed her dreams could be shattered In the matter of the first 5 minutes after she walks back into her old school. She had dreams of going back and making a difference to some students .. hopefully at least one .. in her student teaching but when she realizes she is shadowing Mr. McSlutbag her dreams come crashing down just like her spirt 8 years ago.

Jack Slater knew it was going to be a bad beginning to the new school year when he was called into the Dragon-lady’s office BUT he never expected a student teacher ?? He knew this would be trouble BUT he didn’t know how much until he sees her in his class room ..

He says she ruined his life .. She says he ruined her spirt .. something is bringing them back together .. Roxie’s Grandma .. The Truth behind the lies or Basketball !!

Can these two get over what happened 8 years ago when she was a child and he a young adult .. Can they get down to the truth of what happened to make them hate each other .. they can if there feeling are more mature then they let on .. the only lie they need to uncover is .. Kuntz ..

What a fantastic, riveting story of two individuals striving to make a difference in children’s lives along with getting though there own fears and LOVE for what they do and what they do for each other and to each other !! Loved bringing Killer Buzz Float into the classroom too !! LETTY LIVES !!

They can survive !!

“Am I falling for Mr. Slater?? Surely not.”

This book is the epitome of love/hate!
Oh my gee! I can’t get enough of Jack Slater and Roxie (with an I-E) Rambling!!!!

I enjoyed every twist and turn this story took! The history behind the main characters and the reason they loathe each other. The immediate sexual tension when they first see each, not knowing who the other really is. So good!

“McSlutbag is hotter than a middle school teacher has the right to be, and I’m a celibate, very thirsty young woman.”

I like how this story also takes you inside the inner workings of a school environment. The crazy, the hilarious, and the scandalous things that happen behind the scenes. Whoa buddy! Haha! I mean, I know it’s not all true, but who knows?!?

This book has so many layers within it. Not only is it about romance, but also about friendship, loyalty, forgiveness, trust, and setting records straight. You’re hooked in from the start and you want to hold on tight.

“You’re my own personal devil wearing a pair of basketball shoes.”

This book is perfect for anyone who loves a good rom com, or just romance in general! If you like love/hate relationships and scandalous details, this book is for you!

Kendall Day has done a great job with this story and these characters!!
Now....will a certain best friend of Mr. Slater be getting his own book?? Hmmmmm? ;)

Every teacher has that one student. The student that makes them realize why they became a teacher. For Jack Slater, this wasn't Roxie with an ie Rambling. She ruined his life.

Mr. Slayter's world gets turned upside down on the first day of school. He gets moved from teaching 8th Grade Language Arts to teaching 6th grade Science and Language Arts. The day was looking up when he walks into his new classroom to find a smoking hot student teacher, only to realize that it was none other than Roxie Rambling.

This book was funny, sexy and overall had a great message. I devoured this book in a day, I couldn't put it down. Kendall Day is an amazing storyteller and I can't wait to see what she has in store next.

Started reading this and I expected a fluffy or steamy insta-love read. Heck no. It exceeded my expectations lol

The depth and issues it covered made this so meaningful. As an aspiring teacher, it was awesome reading something besides a research articles that tacked kid's behavior and motivators in school. Srsly tho I love this book.

I sat down to read this for review, giving myself several days to finish the book but I couldn’t put it down, and finished in in just a few hours. In a typical KD fashion, this story is witty, engaging, and amazing. Jake Slater is an outright douche, very similar to the obnoxiously lovable Schmidt from the show New Girl. While Mr. Slater is an asshat, you see wary flecks of decency in there that make you root for him instead of hate him. Overtime, as he lusts after Roxie you see more of him, less of the bachelor, more of a guy who was hurt before and has built up a wall of protection.

Roxie Rambling is just outright amazing. I related so much to young Roxie’s school experiences. I love that Kendall wrote about such an important topic that leaves such lasting scares. Roxie’s character is so beautifully written.

They are surrounded but a potpourri of colorful and hilarious characters from teachers to students. I love the in-depth look behind the doors of the teachers lounge.

I want to give more details but doing so will give too much away, so I will just say that if your looking for a book that makes you laugh, cry, soaks your panties, and make your heart gallop than you need to read this book. Then go read Kendall’s other books under Kendall Grey because you’ll not only cry with laughter but you’ll need new underwear and a shower after.

I am rating this 4 1/2 stars but because of goodreads decision to not have half stars, I round up.

I was fortunate enough to get an advanced copy of this book and boy was I excited! Kendall Day (Grey) writes hilarious romances with some very steamy sex scenes. When I read her description of the book, I'll admit, I was a little hesitant but I am glad that I picked it up and read it.

I really wasn't sure what to expect. But I really fell in love with all of the characters. Roxie (with an ie) is hilarious. She is the kind of character you expect to read when you pick up a Kendall Grey novel. She is sassy, she curses, and she's surprisingly touching. When I read this book, I couldn't help but relate to Roxie. I think many people will be able to read this book and find something they can relate to. Not to be outdone, Mr. Slater is an all around good character. He is the definition of a burnt out teacher with his heart in the right place. It was a fun experience to see them both grow as characters.

The Plot was interesting and it really did have me on the edge of my seat. I never knew what was going to happen next and at times I actually teared up which is one of the highest complements I can give an author. I love when a book makes me feel something enough to show emotion.

All in all, I really liked this book. If you love Kendall Grey, give Kendall Day a chance to wow you.

I really enjoyed reading Falling for Mr. Slater. I thought it had a unique story line, different than other teacher/student books I have read. The characters were well written. Mr. Slater (Jack) was a real jerk at the beginning. Roxie Rambling was his former student, one he considered his worst. Now years later, Roxie becomes his student teacher. How ironic is that? Well, turns out Roxie ends up teaching Mr. Slater. She shows him different ways to approach students that he formally would’ve written off as just bad kids. She taught him things about life in general. By the end of the book, Jack becomes a different person and a better teacher too. The book had both funny parts and sad parts. Worth a read for sure. I would recommend this book to all romance fans who love happy endings. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Seriously, where were the Mr. Slater’s at when I was in school? I completely recommend this book if you want a hot, funny read. It all starts off when Jack Slater underestimates Roxie, with an I-E , Rambling When she is his problem student in school. A handful of years later, Roxie shows back up in his life as his student teacher. What could possibly go wrong? Everything! Or did it actually go right?

I had the honour of reviving an ARC for this book.

With in the first few pages I was hooked though I will say it should come with a few warnings to the reader first off place your e reader down when slater does a douce canoe move so you won’t break it. As well food and drink are not recommended when reading don’t want you to choke or spit what your drinking (especially if its of the vodka variety that’s just alcohol abuse 😉)

Now that I have the warnings out of the way. There’s so much I want to say about the book but if I do that you won’t buy your own copy and you really need to this book is hawt and I’m not just talking about the yummy I licked him first mr slater 😉 or I think I just sprung a lady bonner over the sassy and one fine Roxie Rambling. But the story that is written is the true reason you should take the time and read this book.

This is a heart warming open your eyes and see them for the first time romance between the two main characters. But you do get the supporting cast of silly oh gods they didn’t just say that characters as well( which I hope we get to see more of hint hint Kendal 🤓😉) you need to add this to your tbr and keep an eye out for when it’s released this in a spring of 2018 hit waiting to be discovered by the masses!!

I first started reading this author from a series under the name Kendall Grey. Loved her words, she had a few books out in a series but I couldn't find a readers group for her on facebook but I started getting her newsletter and I am so happy to have found her. She totally writes things that are just my style, pace, and humor. She's given her heroes and heroines wit, sarcasm, and enviable hotness. Its the PERFECT escape for a weekend. I absolutely loved this book, it had me laughing throughout, loved everything about how misunderstood Roxie was, and Mr. Slater <3 Why didn't I ever have a teacher like him? I swear my school had a minimum age of 50 and a beer gut starter pack clause for teachers! Can't wait for more books from this author regardless of what she decides to call herself lol.

I was looking forward to reading Falling for Mr. Slater, a different take on a student/teacher romance.

I almost stopped reading it, but it wasn't until about 50% into it that it started getting GOOD. I applaud the author for the different take on one of my favorite troupes, but I couldn't get past a few things. The characters acted really immature for being 30+ years old. Also, for someone not being a big fan of hashtags, those were starting to drive me crazy with his often they were used. Once the first kiss happened the characters almost did a 180 and it became enjoyable. The chemistry between Roxie and Jack were SIZZLING.

I'm glad I didn't give up on this book!! Even with a rocky first half, the second half made up for it.

I had high hopes for this book. I am a huge Student Teacher Forbidden Romance fan and I wanted this book to be different and amazing.

I had trouble connecting with the characters. Their interactions with each other didn’t resemble a transforming budding romance.. snarky is more like it.

I was looking for more romance after they reunited and I found that lacked for me.
