Poignant and charming novel of a trip through SCANDINAVIA

Anna lives in France with her two teenage daughters, Lily and Chloe. Their dad Mathias has been banished to Marseille, for good reason, and Anna is dignified in the way she handles the ending of the couple relationship with the children.

But life for this small family is skewed. Anna works long hours at a restaurant and earns very little, and both Chloe and Lily are struggling with their school lives: one wants to give up learning and has a

This wasn't a book I was anticipating to like or even read - I suppose I have to thank a forthcoming trip to Spain for bringing the book into my life! I had decided to actually try to learn Spanish (properly this time) and so made my way to a large bookstore where I live in order to try and find a good coursebook. To cut an 'already-unnecessarily-long-story' short, the book I liked the most was a 'livre de poche' or a 'pocket-sized book'. I don't think I've really come across this format in Brit ...more

I don’t think I’ll ever find the right words to describe how much I loved this book, but I’m gonna try my best.
Not gonna lie, it took me about 80 pages to really get into it, it was kind of moving too slow but also too fast at the same time, but as soon as I got into it I fell in love.
I laughed, I cried, I was so shocked by some parts that I literally had to take a couple breaks to proccess everything that’s happened. I could relate to it quite a lot, and also I connected to the characters so f

Wonderful story about mother love, about sisters love and powerless circumstances, which bring to us freedom and power at the finish of the road. I'm appreciate author talent in describing complicated situations in simply way. At some passage I'm cried, in some - laughed, but at finally I understand how valuable for us is family and how important keep strong and deep link with your mother. Thank you, Virginia for this incredible warm and deep story, which I'm sure I will tell to my child in the ...more

This is the story of Anna, Chloe and Lily - mother, teenage girl and 12yr old. A journey told from their different perspectives, that will change each of them and the reader. A light, and yet deep, read about family, love, resilience and making the best of every day.

Funny, light and emotional.
This book was the perfect read in the subway, on my way to work. It is guaranteed to put you in a good mood and it explores a lot in the area of mother-daughter relationships.

Beautiful reminder that we are the variables within the situations life throws at us. Rather than focusing on changing our surroundings, we could focus on changing ourselves from within. This down-to-earth story of a struggling family turns in to such a heartwarming depiction of our human need for connection and mutual understanding. It'll have readers both laughing and crying at times which makes it all the more enjoyable but what really stuck with me is the way this book portrays the benefits ...more

I think the reason I kept on reading was (a) because Lily is just an absolute gem and (b) to see what the whole mystery behind the separation of Anna and her husband was about (which btw when revealed to the Chloe was just so anticlimactic and improperly so in my opinion).
The relationships between the mother and her daughters were endearing and somewhat complex, however I found Chloe utterly insufferable. Her temper-tantrums are treated as a side effect of her "overly sensitive" and "caring" pe

Read this in English. Anna is in serious debt and has just left her job. The bailiffs are chasing her and her children are becoming more distant. What should she do - obviously borrow her Dad's camper van and travel to Scandinavia!

I enjoyed this book as escaping from a situation is probably something that we all want to do at some point in our lives. The descriptions of the places they visited made you want to go there too. Chloe is a teenager who is unsure of what she wants or how she should be

✨It’s a really nice story about family, mother-daughter relationship and sisterhood. As most of the feel-good novels, some parts are predictable, but at the same time Virginie Grimaldi manages to include various topics that you could not expect to read when beginning the story.
✍🏻 I would usually rate a 3 stars for a good novel of that genre, but the writing made me rise it up to 4: the story is told from the 3 characters perspective (Anna in a standard prose, Chloé in a blog, Lily in a journal)

Book that basically says that we cannot run from our past, from our debt, from our demons and bullies. Life is not that easy. But we can change ourselves. We can change as people and that's maybe just as important.
I enjoyed reading this so much. Lily was the highlight in the overall dark theme of the book. I loved her humour. And I loved the relationships that developed between the three women throughout the story.

This is a book that has completely taken me by surprise. I picked this up on the spur of the moment, because I was looking for something light to read and I loved the fact it was a book by a french author and translated from french (as I’m slowly learning french).

This book had me gripped and is my favourite book I’ve read so far this year. It’s told through three different perspectives and through three different formats, you’ll see what I mean. You get Anna, an over worked, stressed out mum, t

Lovely story about single mum who takes her two teenage daughters away in a campervan. The book explores their relationships and is a nice, gentle read, with a few interesting parts.
