Danger Guys #5

Danger Guys On Ice

Rate this book
While attempting to have a relaxing afternoon on the ski slopes, our Indiana Jones-style heroes discover a prehistoric ice man. And the deeper they go into a cavernous tunnel, the deeper they're pulled into a mad plot to take over the world with an army of prehistoric men. This sounds like a scheme only the Danger Guys can undo. Or can they? ALA Booklist said of the first two books in the series, "If third graders could write adventure books, they might have written these. . . . Struggling new readers will find the books exciting."

Noodle goes with Zeek's family to Mine Mountain Lodge to celebrate Zeek's birthday. As soon as they get there, Zeek wants to ride the ski lift up and make one run down the slope before the party starts. Before the guys can decide what to do, a strange looking clown comes down from the lift. When Zeek asks him how the ski conditions are, he mutters the word "dangerous" and rushes away. Well, the Danger Guys love danger so Zeek pulls Noodle onto the ski lift and off they go. Suspended fifty feet in the air, the ski lift’s cable breaks, and the guys plunge into the deep snow. Zeek's skis go down the mountainside without him, and Noodle’s skis won’t slide because he forgot to wax them. As they trudge down the slope on foot, they are caught in a blizzard. Next, they find themselves running for their lives as an avalanche rumbles down the mountain. They escape death by falling into a deep ravine. Under the ice, they find a frozen caveman. A strange rumbling shakes the cave and splits the ice over the caveman’s face. The Danger Guys escape flying icicles and rocks by squeezing into a pizza-sized hole. With their legs dangling in the caveman’s cave, they hear something humming the tune to an old TV show. An explosion blasts the guys into a wall where they discover mining hats with lanterns that still work, and a mining car barreling down the rails at them. The guys end up in an underground laboratory with Mr. Vazny, aka Dr. Morbius, aka Dr. Chill. Zeek and Noodle try, once again, to foil the madman's plans to destroy Mayville.
