Corent City Tales #2

Magic and Mayhem

Rate this book
Life in Corent is exciting and challenging. As one of the main paranormal communities you never know what might be around the corner.

Matt’s life has always been peaceful. He splits his time between helping at his mama’s shop and spending time with family, friends, and his coven. Yet, when his magic becomes increasingly unstable, he finds himself shunned and cast away as people fear what is happening to him.

Feeling lost and alone, and his magic becoming ever more erratic, Matt’s thoughts turn inward as he tries to work out just who he is and what being a mage means to him.

Matt draws strength from his best friend Charlie, and the powerful tiger shifter family, the Vaughn’s.

Frequent visits from Tyler, and messages from a mystery man, provide the only break from the melancholy he feels like he’s drowning in. Yet, even that complicates his life further, as he struggles with growing emotions toward both of them.

When unexpected events bring radical changes to Matt's life, the news shocks him and those closest to him. Yet, as scary as everything is, it helps him see who is truly a friend and who is a foe, and that it isn't always blood that means family.

No one knows what these changes mean, leaving Matt to weave his way through the knowledge and find what his true path is meant to be. Finding the strength to stand for himself, but also allowing those around him to support him, he comes to find that there is so much more to him than he thought possible, and that love can come from unexpected places.

Just when he didn't think life could get any darker, light comes, showing him that his future holds more than he ever imagined.

This is so much better than the first book. The first was very fluffy which is what happened when one of the MC was a unicorn shifter. This second book in the series has a Magic User MC X Siberian Tiger Shifter. It has a lot more action and sweetness in it. Tyler was so expressive, creative, and youthful with how he chase after Matt. Matt was such a cute bookworm who was oblivious to every positive thing around him. I was quite sad to see how Matt didn't get his problems sorted out from the first book and am glad to see the revelations on it in this book.

I don't even know where to start. Book one in this series was amazing, but this book is so much more. I laughed and cried and loved the sweet adventure that the author took us on. It was a shock to see how and why things were happening. It's filled with love and friendship but also danger and mystery. I think Matt could be my new favorite, and don't even get me started on how great Tyler was. And the mystery texter had me laughing out loud each time a new text came in. Wonderful story.

I didn’t quite like this one as much as I did the first one in the series. That being said, I still liked the book and found it really entertaining. I liked Matt a lot in the first book and was glad we finally got answers to his mysterious illness. I thought Matt and Tyler made a wonderful couple and the texts Matt received from his anonymous texter made me smile. It was good to have Charlie and all of the Vaughn clan show up. I really enjoy the dynamics between all the characters.

I will say that the whole reason for Matt’s mysterious illness didn’t quite make sense to me and the actions of the main villain of the story didn’t make much sense either. I didn’t let either of those things detract from my enjoyment of the story. Overall, it was a really good addition to the Corent City Tales and I am looking forward to more in the series.

Same book different day

I always find myself loving the first book in whatever series Walker has started. But when I get to the second book everything is VERY similar to the first book. Mainly the characters. For example Charlie and Matt are best friends and Tyler and Knox are brothers their characteristics are not very different. Same characters different situations.

Confucius says, when naked man walk through doorway sideways, he going to Bangkok.

The second book in the Corent City Tales series was as enjoyable as the first. I would even go as far to say that this one was even a bit streamier, although I wouldn't categorize these as high steak factor books. This series focus is more on the events and emotional bonding of the characters. It works here. I looked forward to Matt's book. We were left with him having issues with his magic going wonky on him in the first book. Here we find the truth and it isn't what anyone expected. Throughout it all the Tyler Vaughn is by Matt's side. It was a sweet read between the two of them with no real angst. The banter and jokes had me laughing away as I read. I recommend these books as easy and enjoyable reads.

I am glad we had been told a little of Matt's problem in the first book. Because of this, it was effortless to slip back in with the information we had already been given.

Learning what was going on with Matt.

I have to say; I am so proud of everyone who stood by Matt, even those who were entirely new to his life. He might have been at rock bottom, with those who were supposed to help him, not stepping forward to do so. The coven whom he had joined, but had never really been a part of. He made new friends though. Got a new mate and lover and was able to rise and be a star. What more, he got a whole new family from it.

Book two answers loads of my questions from book one and I enjoyed the plot twists and maturing of our hero greatly! I like this world tremendously and hope for several more books in the series. I especially enjoyed the introduction of The Vampire King who would be a delightful addition to a love interest in the future books of the series.

My thanks to Hannah Walker, one very fine author. Her works are many of the books I have enjoyed, allowing me to live in these magical worlds she creates. I continue to be a very delighted fan and reader!

Matt and Tyler are awesome!

I absolutely adore Matt, he’s such a strong young mage despite all the uncertainty and losing everything/everyone around him except for Charlie. Omg, I cried over Matt because he didn’t deserve this. Then he started to get these anonymous texts with the most corny jokes which made him laugh. Tyler, the brother of Charlie’s mate Knox Vaughn, has taken interest in Matt’s well being. So then in the midst of all the horrible things happening there are 2 people who are interested in Matt! Loved this book, can’t wait until the next one!

Good and fun

This is the second book in this series and it is just as good and engaging as the first if you haven't read it I would recommend that you do as what this book is about is started in that one.
Matt is worried his magic is wonky and no-one knows why but it's getting worse, his spirits are being kept up by his friends especially Tyler and a mystery text-er who makes him laugh.
The book is sweet and fun definitely worth a read.

OMG, I am so loving Hannah Walker's Corent City Tales series. Matt and Tyler are such great complex characters and I absolutely love Matt, he went through so much but he never ler it break him. Tyler was Matt's perfect match, standing beside him as he was hit by life changing revelations. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Good witches, bad witches, delectable fae, shifters of all shapes and a unicorn - can't ask for more. Oh yeah, there's a great HEA.

This is the 2nd book of a series but reads well as a standalone.

(Originally reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews. Rated 4.5 out of 5.0 Love Bytes.)

I really enjoyed the first book in this new series from Ms. Walker and I was waiting for this current one. It didn’t disappoint. I liked reading Matt’s story.

We met Matt through Charlie’s story back in book one. Matt is Charlie’s best friend and the one whose magic was going haywire. Now we see everything from his side. He is desperate for an answer, believing his only option is to give up his magic forever.

But not so fast. The Vaughn family is on the case. We met them when Charlie fell in love with one of them in book one. I’m not going to say more about that in case you haven’t read that one yet. Suffice it to say that they are a family of Siberian Tiger shifters and every one of them is an Alpha. Matt sees himself as a geek, nerd, or something like that. A bookworm his entire life, he works with his mom in the family bookstore…or rather he works from home, but with the books from the store.

His magic has grown increasingly more erratic, and the Mage Council has said they don’t believe there is anything wrong, and hinted he might be making it all up for the attention. The head of his coven has threatened him with expulsion. How can life get worse?

Then one of the Vaughn brothers comes into his life. The pieces start to come together. There is a reason his magic is wonky. No further spoilers though.

I liked the book a lot. It kept me up late reading last night, and was totally worth it. You know when you have that gummy eyed feeling, and your eyes are getting blurry and you know you should put the book down? Well that was me. I refused to give up before I got to the last page.

Great job Ms. Walker. I look forward to book three! I highly recommend the two books in the series. They are light hearted and don’t have a lot of angst. Just what I needed this week!

This author consistently delivers books that I adore. This one is no exception. I loved watching Tyler woo Mat to him through text and being by his side when he needed it. I also enjoyed watching Mat and Tyler's tiger interact together. The box was so cute and the tiger snuggles were aww moments for me.

I also liked watching Mat and his struggles with his magic first not knowing what was going on. Then his coven's reaction before and after they found out what had happened to Mat. I was also glad the see that I'm really hoping this series continues and we get to see more of the Vaughen brothers fall in love.
