Jackie is surprised to find a body smothered under a pile of stones on the beach. She is curious, but the case has to be passed to her sister Bernie, a high-ranking police officer. After all, what’s a small-town features writer and domestic witch going to do about the death of a local folk musician?

Quite a lot, as it turns out.

The murder weapon was a magical songbook.

Anne Boleyn’s legacy extends down the centuries, and has far more to do with this sleepy corner of Norfolk than anyone had realised. The ghost of Mark Smeaton is prancing around, the unpleasant descendants of the witchfinder general are rising, and Jackie is trying to photograph some llamas in a nursing home.

Things take a serious turn as she’s forced to make a difficult choice, but luckily her friends have got her Clare, who’s the serious, studious, clever one, and then of course there’s Gloria. She likes purple.

If – like Jackie – you’ve ever had to hastily conduct a magic spell in a public convenience, this book is for you.

From the author of The Celtic Witch Mysteries comes this new series – all the laughs, eccentricities and British folklore that you expect, with a brand-new cast of lovable characters.

Loved it!

I'm a big fan of Ms. Milligan's Celtic Witch series so I knew I loved her writing. But a whole new series with different characters and a different genre? Well, I should've had no doubts! She handles it beautifully and her writing is still up to speed. Her characters tend to take on a life of their own and you can't imagine that they aren't "real people".

Music feeds the soul and is life

Absolutely terrific read. Starts off very low key but builds up in intensity as the story unfolds. She has always been able to perform minor magic but her life has always been normal. However finding a dead body on the beach throws her into a magical storm. Ghosts, magical books, a coach from hell and life draining witch hunters are just part of what she and her two closest friends have to deal with as they battle not only to save an innocent from jail but also to keep an ancient evil from gaining power. The fact that this is set in such a normal surrounding with characters that you could meet anywhere make this the powerful read that it is. Highly recommended

Full of interesting history

The paramormal blended with English history and Anne Boleyn. Jackie has a freelanch job writing feel good stories about people and happenings in the villages round her. But she is lso aa witch. Not that she spends much time practicing her craft. During her early morning walk along the shore she discovers the body of a young musician partically buried in rocks. And thus starts her adventure.

.

I so enjoyed the Celtic Witch series and rather doubtful about starting this book. In the beginning I found it rather slow but once I got into it it got better.
It will be interesting to see where the series takes us. I rather wish that Jackie and her friends had more definitive powers, a bit feeble at the moment but maybe these will develop in the rest of the series.

Great story, a relaxing mystery with great characters

If you liked the hedge witch series I think you will find this new book equally delightful. The storyline flowed and I just didn't want to put the book down. Highly recommend

A story of treachery and good witches

This book was fun to read. Since the main character was older i could relate to her thoughts and actions. Good wins over evil with the help of a few ghosts.

A little magic and a lot of foolishness

A story of magic that was interesting in the beginning but got lost somewhere.
A special book that might have had magical songs and is somehow linked to Anne Boleyn.

I really enjoyed this book. The main character is a strong female lead, and she frequently interacts with her sister, who is similarly strong. And they don't centre their conversation around men. A welcome change!

Definitely worth a read if you like paranormal fiction.

Being a kitchen witch in a small town does not equip you to deal with things that go bump in the night!
But a gruesome murder must be solved!!
A cozy that you will enjoy!
