Ashley Locke is a doctor who, together her father and brother, run a successful practice. Cameron, her brother, is about to get married and the future bride, Olivia, invited her to her bachelorette party: a week at a spa-golf resort. Her best friend Harper thinks this is the perfect opportunity for Ashley to get a little loose. Ever since she broke up with her ex Daniel, after catching him cheating on her, Ashley has never been with a man again. So when 3 attractive men come up to them and start flirting with them, Harper encourages Ashley to sleep with one of them.
Lucas is one of the n¡best golfers in the world, and when he sees that Ashley doesn’t recognize him, he takes advantage of the situation and gives her a false name. They spend the night together, but after a passionate night, he gets a surprise when Ashley kicks him out in the morning. It is the first time that something like that happens to him. So his brother Aiden decides to make the things more interesting and proposes a bet: he has until they leave to make Ashley fall in love with him- what did he not count is that he would end falling madly in love with her.
Ashley’s trust issues, Lucas’s womanizing past, and paparazzi media harassment will be some of the things this couple has to face it they want their relationship to work.
“Do I look like a fucking newborn baby? You’re the master at getting women in the sack.” Aiden scoffed. “No, we need something harder.” “Like what?” I was curious to see what he’d come up with. Noah slapped a hand on my shoulder and winked at Aiden. “Come on, man. Aren’t you tired of your brother always winning? Think up something good.” Aiden’s grin widened. “Got it.” By the look on his face, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. “I bet you can’t get Sarah to fall in love with you.” That was the last thing I expected to hear. “Seriously?” I griped. “What kind of a bet is that?” Aiden held out his hand. “Scared?”“You said you wanted a challenge,” Noah chimed in. “Here’s your chance to prove you can do anything.” “All right, assholes, you’re on. How much? And better yet, how long do I got?” Aiden smirked. “Ten thousand, and you have until we leave town.” Women loved me, and I had no doubt I could get Sarah to fall in love with me. I shook both of their hands and nodded toward the elevator doors. “Deal. Let’s go.”
“Sorry to disappoint, sunshine. I’m not a hump and dump kind of guy.”Before I could walk out, he stood in my way, body close to mine. “I’m going to break through that ice wall of yours, sunshine. One way or another.” I batted my eyelashes in an innocent matter. “Good luck with that.” “You need to loosen up, sunshine. I’m only in town for a month. Better take advantage of the time while we have it.” I opened the door and pushed him out, his laugh echoing down the hall. “I’d rather not. Goodbye. Enjoy your time in Myrtle Beach.” Slamming the door, I breathed a sigh of relief. All I had to do now was avoid him for the rest of the weekend.
Once he had my clubs strapped beside his, he turned to me, voice serious. “Are you going to ever be able to trust me, Ashley? I can tell you now, I want this to work. But in order for a relationship to succeed, there needs to be trust.” Sighing, I met his gaze and shrugged. “I don’t know. I mean, I want to trust you, but I don’t know how to with women falling all over you all the time. There’s just too much temptation. And we all know what happens in the pro circuit. Cheating is like a hobby.” Disappointment flashed in his gray eyes. “What if you came with me? I’m cutting back to just five tournaments a year. Surely, you’d be able to travel, with your brother running the practice and your dad filling in for you. They might actually like me and approve of it.” A laugh escaped my lips. “Maybe. I know my dad would. My brother’s a little protective though. He might be harder to win over.” His grin broadened. “At least, you didn’t say no. That gives me hope.” He looked around, then stole a kiss before I could object. “Come on. We’ve got a game to play.”
“You okay?” I probed. He nodded, voice low. “Better than okay.” His gaze fell to my lips and he kissed me. My whole body lit up like it was on fire. I wanted more, but he pulled away. “There’s something I want to tell you.” “What?” I whispered. Gently, he brushed a hand down the side of my face. “I’m falling in love with you.” My heart stopped, and I felt the burn behind my eyes. Deep down, I’d been waiting on him to say it, even though I knew it was moving way too fast. But there was no denying the way I felt. Fighting it only made the feelings that much stronger. “Say something,” he murmured, looking unsure. Smiling up at him, I captured his face with my hands. “I’m most definitely falling in love with you too.”
“They placed a bet on you, Ashley. As a woman myself, I felt you should know the truth. I’m looking out for you. Believe it or not, it’s the truth.” Her lips quivered and she huffed. “I thought Aiden was a good guy. For a while there, I didn’t care if I got a story. Hell, I could almost say I was falling in love with him. It was amazing just being around him, and you, and Lucas. I felt like I belonged.” She opened the magazine and shook her head. “Then I heard about the bet and it made me sick. I realized I didn’t want to be a part of his world. So, I wrote the story and sent it off to my editor.”
“Please, Lucas. Please tell me it’s not true.” He ran a hand through his hair and made eye contact. It slammed into me. Guilt. He was guilty. Shaking my head, I stepped back. “Wait. You have to let me explain.” I swayed on my feet. “Oh, my God.” The magazine fell to the ground and he tried to grab my arms, but I moved away. “Don’t.” “It’s not what you think, Ashley. Yes, we made a bet, but it was the night I first met you. It was stupid. I don’t even care about that.” Grabbing my stomach, I felt like I was going to be sick. Anger. Betrayal. Lies. It all flashed through my mind. All our little moments. I couldn’t take it anymore. With tears streaming down my face, I turned away from him. I felt like the biggest idiot on the planet, and I didn’t want him to see the embarrassment on my face, or how exposed I felt.
