In the fourth book of the For You series, J. Nathan grows her college sports world with the tale of Alabama’s star right tackle Jordan Grady and the girl who took his heart and disappeared without a trace.
Emery and Jordan met when they were kids. Jordan became her escape, her safe place from her abusive stepfather. As they grew up they forged a friendship that might have been more with time, but the night Jordan kissed Emery she left him without a word.
The pain of her abandonment turned Jordan from sweet and protecting to inconsiderate, arrogant and distrustful, but now that she’s back in his life can they put their past behind them and give love a second chance?
J. Nathan’s books keep getting better and better. For Emery is absolutely swoon worthy and impossible to put down.
I was totally enamored with Jordan and Emery growing up together, I loved their easy friendship and the fact that Jordan recognized he could only be her safe place while she was too young for anything more even though Emery grew up knowing she was in love with him.
Emery was a wonderful heroine. I felt terrible for the way she grew up but loved that she used her experience to do some incredibly good work for others. Jordan Grady was perfect for her. A sweetheart underneath all that mouthy attitude, because those of us who met him in previous books had mostly seen his abrasive side with a few glimpses of his true self.
I loved this story from start to finish with its TWO epilogues. Completely unputdownable with all the feels. I also enjoyed reading about Raquel and Abbot and all the secondary characters that added a wonderful layer. I hope to read more about them in future books.

REVIEW: 4+ STARS
"I think down deep, even when I couldn't have you, I wanted you."
I'm still smiling!! Totally smiling, because this is the kind of book I love to jump into in between heavier reads, and knowing I have a great story with a guarantee of a goofy grin coming my way makes it that much better. I first read J Nathan back in February 2017 and knew immediately that I needed to follow this series. I enjoyed her writing style and stories a lot, and the best part of this series is that they are complete standalones.
We met Grady in a previous book in the series, but there are absolutely zero spoilers by reading this series in any order. The crossover is circumstance, at best. I love the basis for this entire series, all being centered around couples in college finding their true love while overcoming issues. True love is always fun when it's young, it's real, and the excitement of first kisses loom with butterflies swirling. Completely smile worthy the way Nathan writes these stories. Emery and Grady's story wasn't always an easy one, but their love was always the easy parts of the story. Drawn together with an incredible connection rooted in childhood, these two had an unshakeable bond that got them through quite a bit of turmoil...as well as a multitude of firsts they only got to share with each other. I just couldn't help but smile with everything they went through, the good and the bad. No, I'm not heartless but I think that the hard times were definitely out-shined by the love that was blossoming. J Nathan writes a young love so well and she appeals to the hidden 'softie' in me.
As heavy as the dialogue and the storyline was, there was a lightness to it that I could definitely appreciate. I love heavy, real, tragic emotions in a book with a love that overcomes anything, but the style in which J Nathan writes, it lends an easier cadence and with that comes a lighter feel to it. I loved the giddiness, the smiles, the elation I got when things were going their way. The pain and the tragedy was there, but I loved that while it was the trajectory for their story, it wasn't the main focus or a downer for it either. It was just a really great read with smiles aplenty.

I love when I am able to read a book and settle in immediately, whether it be with a gasp or a smile. Emery's plight immediately draws you in, and it's not an easy one, but with Grady's strength in his sarcasm, as well his friendship, these two have the makings for a worthy story. This book had an element to it that is not my normal go-to style, but Nathan always makes it worth my time. It was wholesome, clean....and good fun. It was light in the storyline, but definitely one to make you smile and catch your heart. Again, this book had a heavy reality and not one to be made light of, but I feel that J Nathan did it justice by focusing on the good while working through the evil. I can easily, easily recommend this entire series.

We’ve adored each book in the For You Series by J Nathan. They’re stories of love and friendship and growth, and in each book, we witness the characters grow and find love, and in the case of For Emery, we discover a sweet friend to lover’s romance. Each book in the series focuses on a different couple and can be read as standalone’s although characters from other books do make appearances throughout each book.
Emery Pruitt and Jordan ‘Grady’ Grady were neighbours and only 8 and 11 respectively when they met, and it was a friendship that would leave an imprint on their hearts for years to come. Emily would sneak into Jordan’s bedroom to escape her abusive stepfather and troubled home life. Jordan and his family provided a comfortable refuge for Emily.
‘Was that what love felt like? Because I was pretty certain, since I was eight years old, I’d loved Jordan Grady. He was the boy who saved me. The one who protected me. The one who made my darkest days bright.’
One day, Emily disappeared leaving Jordan bereft and confused that she didn’t even say goodbye. As the story is told in dual POV’s we know immediately why Emily left and it isn’t until four years later when they are at college in Alabama their paths would cross.
We switch to present day and find that during Emily’s absence, Jordan, or Grady as he is known to his football clan, had gone a little off the rails trying to get Emily out of his heart, with no success. Both Emily and Grady had changed over the years, yet still maintained the essence of who they were, and their feelings were every bit as intense.
‘Could I just tell him I’d loved him since I was eight? Could it be that easy?’
There is a serious nature woven into For Emery that is topical and poignant, yet this is predominantly a story of childhood friends, first love, family and friendships. And added bonus was catching snippets of past characters from For Finlay, For Forrester and For Crosby as their sports careers and love lives prosper and their dreams are fulfilled.
‘I’m gonna be your biggest fan, Jordan Grady. You just wait and see.’

It's so nice to see Grady as a person and not a prick. He's loved Emery since they were kids, but she left without a word. Now she starts college, and he's a jerk. He overcomes his jerky-ness, and they get their HEA. I love how their journey is different from the previous couples,plus how the previous peeps come to his rescue. I hope there's another book planned for Flip.

Emery and Jordan's story is so heart warming! I liked how J. Nathan gave us a glimpse of their shared past so we have a clear understanding of how the relationship history helped shape their present. Their friendship was so strong and what happened was very bittersweet.
We flash forward a handful of years where Emery and Jordan meet again. Jordan is flabbergasted and doesn't in the best manner. I thought that quite a bit of this book was from his point of view, and yet I still didn't feel like I got to know him like I did Emery. I did really like this book, especially Jordan's solution to help Emery's mother. I am really enjoying this series.

I am enjoying this series so much. There's been enough variety in the couples and the sports involved to keep my attention. Fun stories but each with their own message that carries a lesson of importance.
I think Grady and Emery have been my top favorite so far. I loved their childhood friendship and then their second chance after a six year separation. Football always takes first place in my love of sports-related romance and Grady made it one of the best I've read. The big old guy stole my heart and I was captured by the goodness in his heart even when he acted like a big old jerk.
Highly recommend this series.

For Emery by J. Nathan is the fourth book the in sports romance For You series. I like this is a standalone since this is the first I've heard of these books and also my first for the author as well. A strong friendship, first love, and first heartbreak, I like how this story got straight to the point without skipping any major details. Emery and Jordan met under some sad circumstances but without that it's possible they wouldn't have become so close. With a few years separating these characters, Jordan quickly became fond and protective of Emery and she just as quickly started crushing on him. Over the years it became loud and clear how Emery felt and she always hoped that one day Jordan would look at her as more than a best friend. The night something significant finally took place between them also became the worst night ever that forced Emery away without a trace and Jordan just as lost without her.
Four years later brought these two back together with a less than great first meeting again. Jordan shut his emotions down after Emery left and they didn't resurface til she came back into his life. But with a tragic past tainting the future it's clear that Emery isn't as open to a reunion as Jordan wants, especially when her feelings never changed and besides one certain moment he never showed any different interest than friendship. I liked how Jordan worked so hard to gain standing back in Emery's life even though she's the one that basically broke his heart. I also liked it wasn't a quick fix since both are so much older and have changed a lot since childhood. There was also one part that J. Nathan had me tearing up and you know the writing's really good when you're truly feeling an emotion. I definitely plan to backtrack in this series because the other characters seemed quite fascinating and I would love to know their stories as well.

For Emery was another J. Nathan winner that was filled with swoons galore. Jordan and Emery were just adorable together as their love story was a long time coming. I adore friends to lovers romances as they provide all the heartwarming feels that hit the spot. Jordan and Emery were the perfect combination of sweet and sexy and their story was a great addition to the series!

Emery met the boy she was going to marry when she was 8 years old, and as they grew up, they only got closer. Their lives intertwined and then, when she was 14, Emery left, and Jonathon Grady was not the same person after losing his best friend. Jonathon Grady has 2 things on his mind, girls and football, when his best friend packed up and left him when he was in high school. When she walked back into his life, it felt like they couldn’t go back to where they were.
Football, a friends to lovers/ second chance romance with strong family ties and a flair of drama. Excellent read.

This is my favorite book of the series! I love childhood friends to lovers stories and this was well written. Grady was a good guy who got a little lost after his best friend left without a word 4 years ago. I liked that he got in shape on his own and was able to become a leader who helped his team and made his future better. Emery has spent the last 4 years hiding from an abusive stepdad and is ready to be back in Grady's life. Their relationship definitely wasn't perfect, but they worked on it together and both came out better. This was enjoyable and I didn't want to put it down. I highly recommend it!

This was my first book by J. Nathan. Though I have two of her books in paperback thanks to an author signing, time has gotten away from letting me read them. But now that I’ve read Grady and Emery’s story, you best believe I’ll be going back and getting to the other two books I have!

It’s not often you find a second chance romance targeted to the new adult audience so this was a wonderful treat. I adore when childhood friends realize they’re in love with each other. This story had the added angst of Emery disappearing for 4 years. On top of all that, Jordan plays football and well football players make great book boyfriends. The author did a wonderful job of weaving the very complicated and scary topic of domestic violence through a sweet feel good story.
However, on a less positive note I have to say some parts of this book just felt too easy. For the first time, maybe ever, I wanted more drama and tension between the characters and the obstacles they had to overcome.

This was a cute story.
I loved the history of how Emry and Jordan came to be.
I liked that there was minimal angst found in most sports/college romances.
Why not four starts or more?
I didn't think the story was that memorable - I've read these characters before and heard this story told. It was still an enjoyable read.
“You were sleeping. I didn’t want to stop your dreams.” I stared back at him. Didn’t he get that he was my dream? Always had been. Always would be.
I loved the history of how Emry and Jordan came to be.

3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 Star! This was a cute best friends to lover romance. Emery and Jordan knew each other from they were kids 8 and 11, Emery moved away unexpectedly and now they are both in college at Alabama,19 an 21, she has a lot to explain. It was a good story, there were some cliche moments and Flip pissed me off, he got off too easily. Overall 3.5

I was given a copy of this book by the New Adult Book Club and this is my voluntarily, honest review of it.
‘For Emery’ is the fourth book in the ‘For you’ series. Do you have to read the previous books to read this one? Not really BUT I do think that you will miss something if you don’t. Because Grady’s character is also present in those stories. After reading the previous stories, I was really curious about Grady’s story. Because let’s be honest, Grady’s character in those books isn’t really likeable or friendly, so I wonder how his story would go and if I would like it as much as I liked the other books. To my surprise and delight I really liked ‘the Grady’ in this story very much!
The story is told from both POV’s and just like the other stories, there is a theme. This time it’s about abuse in a relationship. A difficult subject but just like in her other books, the writer never took the story to very dark places (for me personally at least). I liked the balance between good/bad and light/dark.
The story started great, it was nice to see how the friendship between Emery and Grady started in their childhood. I liked how the writer build the story but I must confess that I was a little worried at one point. Because everything was going great but then there was a moment where I had my doubts about Emery and the way that she reacted to certain things that was happening but luckily that didn’t lasted long. I appreciated the fact that although we saw new and different sides from Grady, we also saw the ‘old’ Grady now and then. That made his character more believable, more realistic to me. And I liked the explanation that we got for his previous (not so nice) behaviour.
I liked the connection between Emery and Grady. Their friendship and their love.
I love the fact that the writer always gives us epilogues. I love seeing little bits of their future together. If you love new adult books and sports then you really have to try this series.

For Emery is the first book I’ve read by J. Nathan and I really liked it. When I read the synopsis of this book, I was really intrigued by the story and the characters. I wanted to know why Emery was running away and whether Emery and Grady could be a couple or not.
I really liked reading For Emery because J. Nathan has an enjoyable writing style and the book was really fast paced. OH WOW!!! What a way to start my 2019 read! This book is SUPER AMAZING!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!! Yep, it definitely belongs in my top favorites list of all time. I know it's such a cliche to say this but I was literally hooked from the moment I started reading. Jen really knew how to capture my attention, had me glued to the book and never wanted to let it go. I just had to read it over again after reading the last page coz I couldn't seem to get enough of this book. I fell madly in love with Jordan and Emery instantly.
I first met Jen when I read "For Finlay", the first book in this series. I've always eagerly tried books from new authors to fall in love with. And "Oh boy!" did I fall head over heels in love with that book and its amazing author. I was immediately captivated by Jen's beautiful words. Then, my attraction to her style became more intense when I read "For Forrester." These two books will always have a special place in my heart. Now I have to make room for more of Jen's books. An easy addition to my top favorites author list.
I've always been drawn to "friends to lovers" books. I love the excitement I get with every page I turn trying to guess when the hero and heroine would finally let go; and let their feelings for each other flow freely, and admit that that they love each other in the most intimate way. And YEP! "For Emery" is one of the reasons why I love this kind of trope. A heart warming story about a beautiful friendship between a boy and a girl that started when they were young. A friendship that went beyond what was norm. I love the innocence of the bond they had with a promise to protect, to care and to love.
I had goosebumps and was always giddy while reading this amazing book. I couldn't flip the pages fast enough until I reach the part where Jordan and Emery would finally be a couple. And Wow! My heart was just bursting with excitement and I was smiling like a lunatic when they finally admitted their feelings for each other. I wanted to hug Jordan that exact moment but at the same time wanted to hit him at the back of his head while telling him "What took you so long?" then turn to Emery, hug and kiss her while whispering in her ears "Finally, the wait is over! Don't ever let him go!" Jordan was the perfect guy for Emery. The epitome of a perfect boyfriend. So thoughtful, so caring and oh so loving. But what I love most about him is that he's over protective. He would do anything to protect Emery without thinking of the consequences.
When I first met Jordan in "For Finlay", he was the Grady prick and I hated him for what he did to Finlay. But he definitely redeemed himself to my eyes and my heart in this book. The Jordan I met and fell in love here is not the Grady I despised in "For Finlay". Aaarrgghh I couldn't stop talking about Jordan Grady! I just love, love, love him so much!!! And YES! I love Emery just as much. A loving daughter and an amazing friend. Such a straightforward, strong and determined girl who followed her dream.
"For Emery" is a beautiful and emotional love story that touched me deeply and one that will stay with me forever. A smile was plastered on my face and I was swooning like a teenager. Though it got me teary-eyed in some part, still, it was worth every tear I shed. The secondary characters were just as lovable and amazing. Ahem...Jen, this is me hinting for you to consider making a book for Raquel, Abbott and Flip. I would love to read their love stories too (especially Flip).
Two thumbs up to a perfect book that I highly recommend everybody should read. Oh, and one last thing, I would like to applaud Jen for tackling social awareness on domestic violence.

When Jordan Grady was 11 years old he met his next door neighbor, 8 year old Emery Pruitt when she snuck into his bedroom to get away from her mom and step-dad fighting. The two end up forming an incredible bond and become the best of friends despite their age difference.
Then when Jordan is 17 he shares a brief kiss with Emery and then she and her mom disappear in the middle of the night and Jordan doesn’t hear from her again.
When Jordan is attending college at 21 years he sees Emery again and he is not sure if he will be able to let her go again. But both Jordan and Emery have changed, and do they still know each other like they used to? Will Emery’s past catch up with her and how far will Jordan go to protect her?
This was such a great book that got me caught up in so many emotions.
I liked Jordan and loved the relationship he formed with Emery when they were kids and how protective he was over her. I wondered how their relationship would begin to change as the two knew each other so well but I was worried about Emery as she was so much younger than him and Jordan was close to crossing a line between what was legal.
I was scared for Emery and her mom with what they were subject to with Emery’s step-dad, Wayne and I was glad that they managed to escape but when I knew that he was still out there I wondered when he would show up.
I was so happy when Emery and Jordan found each other but it looked like Emery had found someone new, Flip Caruso, the new quarterback for Jordan’s football team and Jordan’s arch nemesis. The difficult part was watching Emery and Jordan both avoid how they felt and trying to figure out how they felt about each other.
My heart broke for Emery’s mom and as soon as Jordan showed up I knew things were going to change and I was so happy!! I was definitely still worried about everyone involved but I loved how much Jordan’s family was there for Emery and her mom.
There was a lot of tension through the book that was caused by the animosity between Flip and Jordan. I hated how the two each had feelings for Emery and that Flip really wanted to see Jordan react in anger to everything in order for him to get kicked off the football team so he could shine.
Towards the end of the book everything went totally intense and I was freaking out so bad!! My heart broke for both Emery and Jordan and I couldn’t believe what happened to Jordan. My heart was splitting into two with how much he was going to lose. I loved what Sabrina and Emery did for him after that to show support!
The very end was incredible and I loved it!! The book and characters definitely grabbed a piece of my heart! - By Rebecca

This is a best friends to lovers story and this might as well explain my rate.
I'm a sucker of those type of books. This one wasn't different.
Jordan Grady and Emery Larson (Pruitt at the beginning) became best friends when Emery snuck in Jordan's bedroom an evening when she was 8 and Jordan was 11.
6 years after that day, Jordan and Emery share their first kiss and that same night Emery and her mum run away from her abusive and violent stepfather.
There isn't so much to say about this book, everything went as expected. It was very cute seeing them reunite and get together.
I've loved the heroine since the start. She is bold, she has a strenght inside her that kept growing throughout the story. I loved how the hero, instead, was the picture of her safe haven. He's always been there for her when she needed protection.
The story was heart-warming. I loved the relationship between Jordan and Emery. I just have to say that up until the first 80% of the book my rate is 3,5, because it was mostly uneventful and pretty predictable. However, I couldn't just give less than 5 stars, not when this story has as a central point a current problem in our society, which is domestic abuse toward vulnerable women. I feel like it's stillstil something we are really aware off and this book talks about this huge problem that happens more than we know of, unfortunately. Also, the cuteness that comes out of this story doesn't deserve less than 5 stars.
Anyway, I can say I really enjoyed this book. It was a cute story of two people who get reunited. I recommend it to everyone who likes contemporary romance books.

I absolutely adore the For You series, and For Emery is another amazing addition to the series that I devoured. For Emery has best friends to lovers, it has secrets, it has angst, it has banter, and it has characters that you will fall in love with. It also deals with domestic violence and that adds an added heaviness to the book.
Emery and Jordan aka Grady, have a connection that started years before and only grew stronger before it being ripped apart by something not under their control. Emery and Jordan not only complete each other, they make the other person better, especially Jordan he was an ass in the previous books and we come to understand why in For Emery. My heart broke for these two and then it raced wanting them to make it work. I never thought I would think of Jordan as swoon worthy, but he proved me wrong more than once.
While the entire series can be read as standalones, I encourage you to read them all not only because they are amazing books, but because some of the previous characters do play a part in the other books and you really don’t want to miss out on their stories either. For Emery is a must read in my opinion and I can’t wait for who we will have next!

First I want to say that I am kicking myself in the arse for not reading this series. I don't know why I never heard of this series before because it is amazing. I only read one book and the secondary characters were fabulous! I loved everything about them and I am going to go back and read the series from the beginning.
This is Emery and Jordan's story and wowzer what a story it is. Jordan has always protected Emery from a young age. Emery has had a crush on Jordan for forever but she knows he only sees her as a best friend until they are in high school and Jordan kisses Emery. But life is a biatch and Emery disappears after that night and doesn't return for four years.
In those four years Jordan has become a star right tackle and his life is wonderful. He lives it one day at a time and he harbors that hurt and anger over losing Emery. Then when she comes back and seeks him out he is hardened because she broke his heart but Emery had a reason to leave and it is a sad one. After Emery tells Jordan what happens they start to build their friendship back up and Emery hopes it will turn into a relationship because she still loves Jordan.

Five Swoony Stars!!
This book was phenomenal. This is a book about overcoming domestic violence and having a second chance with the one you love the most. This. Ok is filled with so many emotions. You will laugh, cry, and swoon.
Jordan Grady has always loved football. Ever since he was in pee-wee football he knew he was going to play for Alabama when the time came.
Emery was Jordan’s next door neighbor since she was 8 yes old. Jordan’s bed was her escape from her abusive step-father. Jordan and Emery were best friends until the day Emery had to leave with no goodbye.
Four years later Jordan is playing for Alabama and after not having heard from Emery in that long he was a little bit of a loud mouth ahole. But one night at a party his world changes once again. Emery is back in his life.
We follow as these two build their friendship back and watch as these two fall in love. There a few hiccups in their road to happiness and it may take some doing but these two finally get their happy ever after.
Highly recommended.

We follow as these two build their friendship back and watch as these two fall in love. There a few hiccups in their road to happiness and it may take some doing but these two finally get their happy ever after.

For Emery is book four int he For You series. It can but read as a standalone but if you read previous ones you have meet Jordan Grady already. I love Grady. He's sexy, broody and grumpy but deep down he's a nice guy. Grady and Emery knew each others as kids but circumstances split them apart. They are both in college now and their paths cross. Even though the first time they see each other again didn't goes how they dreamed, I was excited to see where they went from there. Emery has been through a lot. She's strong. I loved her and Grady together. I knew that there would be some bumps in the road for them but when those bumps popped up I was still surprised. I loved this one and it's definitely one you should pick up. After reading For Crosby, I couldn't wait to get Grady's story, now I'm wondering who will be next.
