Growing up, Olivia and her sister Molly didn't have the best life. They grew up in a trailer park with their mother who was an alcoholic and abuser. Molly was her savior and always took the brunt of the abuse. The novel then jumps to Olivia at college and meeting her boyfriend, Danny. The pair eventually married, and it looks like Olivia has finally met the man of her dreams and has someone to care for her. That is until Olivia falls pregnant and her memories of her past and her mother's life st ...more

I was given copy by th author in exchange for an honest rview.

I'm not sure how to write this review without giving it all away. This was an powerful and intense read. Olivia has suffered the worst kind of childhood and the one person she depended on is now dead. She is broken and trying to make it through life the best way she knows how. When she meets Danny her life turns around, he tries his best to learn everything about her. But when the past catches up to them will it be too much for him to

I received a free complimentary book and voluntarily reviewed it.

This book is a tribute how important the survivor spirit is in all our lives!

This book was an amazing read!! The author really pours her heart and soul into her books and it shows. The reader can feel her emotions coming through the pages and can relate to the characters even if they are not familiar with depression, abuse, anxiety, drug use or sudden deaths of those close to them. This book takes the reader through a gamut of emotions and never gives them a chance to catch their breath. The reader will laugh, cry, yell, curse, ugly snot cry, and they may even throw thei ...more

This book will be hard to review without giving away spoilers, but I am going to attempt to do it justice. Olivia is a young woman who is broken from years of abuse at the hands of her mother. The only person she had in this world, her sister Molly is dead and her father abandoned them long before that. But she tries to forge her way through life until she meets Danny, and from the moment they meet, there is an undeniable connection. But she just can't share her past with him, it's too much. She ...more

Wow! Man, I'll get it out eventually. Maybe. If you're looking for a fast paced, adrenaline fueled, heart pounding, pulse racing read, congratulations my friends you've found it. With twists, turns and unpredictable surprises I was totally immersed and frozen on the edge of my seat. The realism of the characters and scenes totally floored me. I was drawn in from the start. This is one read that will cut to the core. Make no mistake this is a true to life read. You hang on every emotion and pray ...more

OMG I loved this book but it was emotionally tough. The Good One By Jennifer Sivec takes you into the lives of two sisters struggling to survive abuse and neglect from the very people who are suppose to love them and care for them. This story is about survival and trying to live your life even if the odds of happiness is stacked against you.

This story takes you to dark places and gives you a glimpse of what it must feel like to struggle with mental illness. It’s touches on how it affects not on

This was a fast read. The author switches effortlessly backwards and forwards in time never losing her reader, to flesh out the story.
As the story unfolds, the horrors in Olivia's past are exposed until the truth according to her mother is revealed. Due to memories that have been suppressed for many years these revelations push Olivia onto a balance board of emotions trying "marry" her memories with her mother's (and father's) revelations and lead her into a downward spiral.

This book will suck you in. I for one couldn't put it down. It's gripping and soul consuming. But then again if you ever read a Jennifer Sivec book you know what you are in for. You are pulled into Olivia's world and you only hope you both can survive it. You hope as The Good One goes on and more and more of Olivia's life is unraveled that she has the strength. That her family and friends have the strength to pull her through all the memories and the pain. You feel for Olivia and want to help he ...more

I read this in preparation for reading an ARC of part two. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I don't see why the story was broken up into two parts. Both parts are short enough that they could have been released together as a single, full-length novel.

Although the story was entertaining, I did have some difficulty connecting to the characters. The subject matter was serious and emotional enough that I expected to feel much more than I did. I'm not sure why this was the case. Maybe I was having an off

I received this book as an ARC copy and am choosing to leave a review for it. "The Good One" (part one) had me on the edge of my seat and completely consumed from start to finish and left me with my jaw hanging wide open. It definitely takes an amazing author to write about some of the best and worst life situations that can occur and combine them all to make a beautiful work of fiction. I am very excited and eager for part two!!

I LOVED this book!! From start to finish it keeps you on the end of your seat. I could not put it down. So many emotions for Olivia, I felt like I was there with her. The trials and triumphs that Olivia goes through are real life struggles. You feel for how she manages so many situations. At the end you realize not everything she believed is true... or is it?? We will all have to find out what really happened in book 2. I cannot wait to see where Jennifer Sivec takes this story.

4 Stars

This is a novella-length story that moves at a fast pace and covers a lot of ground in that time, yet it never felt lacking in its purpose. Lighter on the romance, it is more about Olivia's emotional and psychological journey. Although Danny and her children are integral to the journey and Olivia's healing from a traumatic past. Overall, I was engaged and intrigued by Olivia's story and curious as to what will happen in Part Two.

Really enjoyed this book. Great story of living with mental illness, the demons of one's past, family secrets. This is a story that tackles subject matter that has been taboo for too long. Love the twists that kept me turning the pages. Although it ends differently than I was expecting, I am indeed looking to read Part Two of this story immediately. Well done, Jennifer Sivec!

How to properly review this book …. I have no clue, beside giving it a 5 plus stars rating.
First I legit laughed my a$$ off from page one to the very end,one of the funniest romance books I've ever read. Luke and Laura are soooooo perfect for each other I adored them. They have some crazy ups and downs to get thru but in the end so worth it.

Wow! This book... It grabs a hold of you and doesn't let go! Every time you think you have it figured out there's another twist. You get a view of real life situations they Olivias eyes. Her struggles are sometimes hard to take on but man does she have strength and the strength of her man. As always a great read by Jennifer Sivec, can't wait for more!

You won't put it down!

Jennifer Sivec's characters are often damaged and scarred but not completely broken. Olivia is no exception. The Good One hooked me on the first page and the last page left me wishing for more. Painful memories of a past that have left Olivia wondering if she can ever be truly happy and desperately missing the one person that was always there to protect her as a child, a need to keep family secrets, and a chance at a life she never thought she could have all combine to bri
