An interesting short analysis of the First World War by Professor Robbins. He deals with the causes, outlines the war on land, sea and air, deals with war aims and the home front and sums up the experience of the war on all sides.
nice short(ish) survey of a complex war. i would have liked more about how/why the war started and the details of it's end. the middle gets a little dry with an enumeration of lots of battles and generals and politicians. with so many belligerents its hard to keep all of the commanders straight and care about them as people when there isn't enough detail to get a personal sense of what they are like.
the book was extremely fact-full and knowledgeable. which i loved, and is about a subject i am very passionate about. the reason i only gave it 2 stars was because the writer himself is very boring and can easily put someone to sleep. went off on way too many tangents.
