“Any new threats against you?” Pamela seemed eager for my answer while I tsked at her.
“Are you actually asking me if I’ve had any further nasty messages left in my mailbox?” There’d been more than a few since she’d gleefully published my first column. I figured there’d be pushback, but threatening to hurt my dog, my business and my koi? Unacceptable. And while Crew seemed to think none of the threats were real, he was still worried, though he never once asked me to stop writing because he was a smart, smart boy.
Tensions are high as a pending election pits incumbent mayor Olivia Walker against Patterson lackey Geoffrey Jenkins, threatening Crew’s job as sheriff and his place in Reading. Fee and her mother, meanwhile, agree to assist the owner of a new hunting retreat with the first batch of guests. To their horror, not only are they cut off from the rest of Reading by an accidental beaver dam demolition, they are forced to investigate a murder while Fee wrestles with her past and the fact she’s still not over her ex.

I write a lot of paranormal books for someone who is afraid of the dark. And I wonder why I have to sleep with the lights on. Sometimes life is a teenaged B horror movie and I'm the one who investigates when the scary music is playing. But the voices are calling and resistance is… Yes. I am a Star Trek geek, too. And a fan of RPG’s. With a slight coolness factor since I've been told I'm allowed to join the pops.
I love It! It's fun to read! The characters are entertaining! The book is addicting and it's hard to put down .. you never really know where the story will take you next. With its shocking twists and turns and a feeling of the classic game "clue" and "who done it" ! The race is on to catch the suspect! It's thrilling and an adrenaline rush as you flip each page faster and faster! I can't wait to see where the story will take us next!!
I had a lot of fun reading this next chapter in the exciting life of Fiona Fleming. But, what I loved most was to see more of her personal background, as well as how strong she is becoming compared to the first book of the series. The characters are relatable and the action is a constant flow, which is always nice. I did have an inkling on early on who was the "bad guy", but was not sure. I guess I really needed Fiona to tell me who had done it. Of course, this series is much better to be read in order and not see the books in it as stand alone books. So, if you love long cozy mysteries series that have a kick ass female protagonist, I strongly suggest this series and assure you that it is well worth it. The books in themselves are easy to read in one day or so, but the series is spanning out in many volumes, so do keep some time for it if you are only starting it. Happy reading!
Not only do I love all the “…and…” titles of this series, so whimsical, but as usual, Fiona is up to her eyeballs in murder and intrigue. There’s no better setting for a creepy murder weekend than a hunting lodge, deep in the woods, cut off from the world. As usual, at some point towards the end of each book, our sassy and tenacious heroine finds herself as the target of an attempted murder of some flavor, and this installment doesn’t disappoint…in fact, it’ll leave you squealing (pun intended). I love the development of the characters of Bill, the ex-con and his bear of a pooch, in addition to the drama unfolding with Daisy and her “evil” half-sister Rose. A delightful and quick read for those who enjoy a cozy mystery with some flair….and lots of good food!
Fiona's mom convinces her to help out with the catering and housekeeping of a hunting lodge that is opening up. Fiona is not sure it's a good idea. When her ex-fiance shows up she knows it's not a good idea. When one of the guests is murdered? She's ready to pack her bags and go back home. The only problem is? The only bridge to the retreat was damaged and they are all stuck there until repairs can be made to the bridge. Deputy Jill Wagner repels in from a helicopter to investigate, and tells Fiona she has been made a deputy to help out.
Yep, Fiona is in the middle of another murder. And she is trapped on the retreat grounds for the time being. And the murderer now has Fiona in his sights.
Really wanted to love these books afrer the 1st but after reading 6 im starting to get annoyed at Fee! Yes she's curious by nature but she needs to mind her own business and by that her bnb... she hasnt gotten her priorities straight and i say she's even though she's headstrong shes weak minded in the sense she's always leaving what she has to do to follow a lead or something so letting her mind control her... and in the 2nd book marie patterson was dead. How is it shes alive in the past few books.
