The Caribbean in the latter part of the seventeenth century, and into the eighteenth century, is under pirate rule. To maintain his claim to the islands, the King of England appoints Lord John Hume as governor of the Bahamas. Hume, along with his wife and daughter, Abigail, set sail. Colleen Edwards, daughter of an English Privateer, meets Abby while on an errand for her father. An immediate bond forms between the two women and the infrequency of their contact leaves them both hungry for a more permanent arrangement. When Abby is captured and held for ransom by the notorious pirate Jack Rackham, Colleen and her father set out to rescue her, but when Charles Edwards is wounded, Colleen continues on the quest alone. If she can succeed in freeing the woman she loves, will it be possible for the two of them to create a life together?
SlashReaders: Cute premise and cute book. Again I use the same words I used for the last one though this one was a bit better on the fun action bits.
Bad things about the book: Characters explaining too much. Nothing kills a mood like your character talking too much when they're sick, ect.
Period language, and relationships. For the most part the author didn't do too horribly on making the book sound right. However there were a number of distances where the characters just said things that... Did not sound right. They broke the setting horrible. I don't know why but the use of 'Dad', seemed too informal and out of place where 'Father' would've worked much better.
I'm sorry I don't care how much your father loves you, he's not going to go haring off to see after your kidnapped love in his only ship that is out gunned by the pirate ship without a bit of convincing or pre planning.
I don't know in terms of the 'dressing like a man' stuff. It made sense, however, I'm not sure I believe the fact that a girl who's lived all her life on the sea, dressing like a sailor is just going to give that all up. Start dressing strictly like a man and moved to Scotland no matter how much she loves Abby...
All that said it was a cute yarn the author succeeded in that much.
I love buying and reading these types of books. Boats, yachts, historical events and books about the sea are generally excellent. If there are sequels in your series, I would love to read them.
The beauties of owning the books of important authors cannot be discussed. I'm looking forward to your new books.
For friends who want to read this book, I leave the importance of reading a book here. I wish good luck to the sellers and customers...
