From Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Lauren Landish comes a hard-riding romance of cowboys who run wild—and the women who tame them…
Bull rider James Bennett lives for those eight seconds of exhilaration. A rodeo cowboy in his prime, all he wants out of life is something to straddle. That’s why James is feeling a little restless, spending his summer off working his family’s ranch. That is, until a spirited and gorgeous veterinarian-in-training shows up and puts the cocky wild boy—and his ego—in place. Though she’s a feisty one, James is always up for a challenge.
Sophie Stone has to admit James Bennett is a checklist of cowboy hotness—ruggedly handsome with piercing blue eyes, a hard-muscled body, and just enough swagger to make her toes curl. She thought she was done with her bad-boy phase, but exceptions must be made.
How can Sophie possibly say no to a man who makes her heart buck like a bronco? And when their summer fling comes to an end, how can she possibly say goodbye?
Lauren Landish is a WALL STREET JOURNAL & USA TODAY bestselling author and her books have garnered a legion of praise from her readers.
When she’s not plotting about how she will introduce you to your next sexy as hell book boyfriend, you can find her deep, deep in her writing cave, furiously tapping away on her keyboard, writing scenes that would make even a hardened sailor blush.
Lauren, who lives in NC with her boyfriend and fur baby, warmly invites you to her worlds of rock hard abs, chiseled smiles, and men with deep, fat pockets…but beware! These stories are guaranteed to have you addicted and needing your next fix!
Buck Wild is book one in the brand new series, Bennett Boys Ranch by Lauren Landish. Lauren is a new to me author and I chose this book because I have a huge obsession to cowboy romances and thought this would be a great way to introduce myself to this author. I think I’m going to be unpopular when I say that for me, the book was just okay. It didn’t hold my interest the way I wanted it to. And although the sexy times between these two were hot, hot, hot, I never really felt the romance. I didn’t swoon or sigh. So in that respect, I was a bit disappointed.
James Bennett is a very successful professional rodeo bull rider. It’s off season and his father has just passed away so he has come home to his family’s ranch to help his two older brothers and mother with keeping everything going. But at the end of the summer, he will be back on the circuit. James is not the relationship kind of guy. His constant moving from one rodeo to the next prohibits that. So when he first met the sexy little veterinarian student who didn’t hesitate to put him right in his place, he was shocked at his reaction to her, and how much he couldn’t wait to see her again.
“This girl might be trouble. And if there’s anything I like more than riding bulls, it’s trouble.”
Sophie Stone has just finished college and is preparing to enter veterinary school. She has scored a summer internship with a small town vet and is thrilled with the experience working with him will give her. When they are called to the Bennett ranch to deliver a foal, she meets the Bennett men, but it’s one in particular that catches her eye. Their first meeting, though, was not a pleasant one. But the next time they met, things went better and the chemistry between them sizzled.
“She’s an angel, with a body built for sin…and she’s unafraid to show me both sides.”
Sophie and James enter into a summer fling. They both know their time together will have an expiration date. Sophie is going off to vet school in the fall and James back to his rodeos. But the more time these two spend together, the more their feelings grow, making them both wonder if they will be able to walk away as planned.
Now that the Bennett boy’s mamma, Louise, is alone, it seems as there might be those who are ready to take advantage of her. But her boys are ready to do whatever it takes to defend their home.
This book definitely has some steamy sexy times. Sophie and James have chemistry that steams right off the pages. I think my lack of connection was probably just me. Still, it was an enjoyable read and if you are a lover of sexy cowboys, you will probably enjoy this book!

ღ Sophie Stone , had her plan set in her mind to follow in her older brother’s footsteps.. But a Lil bump in the road had change the course in her life. She went from studying business to completing her bachelor’s degree in becoming Vet. She moved to small town (Great Falls) to do her interning with a local Vet for the summer Sophie is use the big city & men there, so she didn’t bat eye when the 6”3 cowboy gave her attitude
James Bennett is the youngest of the three siblings… James came home to help out on the family farm after his dad passing
James’s father use to call him the ‘wild child” & for good reason, see James is 8 second man …he has working the rodeo circuit for years.. New city every weekend pretty much, so summer on the family farm was more of oviligation, until he meet the feisty sassy mouth assistant Vet
📚 James & Sophie were adorable. This started off as just a summer fling, until what seem like Sophie getting too serious & James freaking out… Is James dying for his escape to come sooner than expected in the fall? 📚 Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion & my honest review 💕 💕 ARC provided to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review💕
This book isn't any more than what it tries to be: a fun steamy cowboy romance. It felt comfy to me, like a cozy book perfect to read outside in a mountain or something. I loved the characters, the writing, and the promise of a million other books with glimpses of future protagonists. I don't know if I'll ever read them all, but it's nice to know I can.🤣
I have read very few Cowboy romances and I regret that now. Cowboys are sexy!
Not only are Cowboys relatively new to me but so is Lauren Landish so I was especially happy to have discovered a new author (to me), Cowboys, and that this is the first book in the Bennett Boys Ranch series.
I do love a feisty female character and I got that with Veterinary Intern, Sophie Stone. I liked her character, strength and personality and I really liked the chemistry between her and James Bennett. Their chemistry and passion really did jump off of the page.
James is taking a break from professional bull riding to help out on the family ranch after his fathers death and meets Sophie when she, along with her mentor, attend the ranch to assist with a difficult birth. Initially they clash, then the sparks fly.
There are so many great characters within this book and they all felt extremely well developed. I feel that a well written story has well written characters throughout and not just the characters that are the main focal point. Buck Wild really did deliver on this front. In fact, it delivered on all fronts!
The writing flowed really well and I liked the way the story-line developed. The great thing is that there is more to this series because, from what I saw of the rest of this family, this series has a whole lot more to offer.
Thank you to Lauren Landish and Social Butterfly PR for providing me with an ARC copy of Buck Wild. This is my honest review.
I couldn't get into this book. There were some things I liked in theory, like the brothers and their relationship with their mother, but the execution didn't work for me. But the relationship between the hero and heroine was too easy too quickly, with the frequent sex scenes thrown in willy nilly without enough genuine chemistry. I opened the book this morning to continue reading, saw how much was left, and groaned, which was a sign that I needed to simply back away.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to read an ARC, and I'm sure others will enjoy this more than I did.
I haven't read too many cowboy romances in my time, however, if they're all as hot as this one, I might just have to change that! Buck Wild was warm, sweet and steamy goodness. It was full of feel goods, low on angst, and had easy to like characters. Although the plot didn't really seem to be going anywhere aside from a bit of drama from a rival family, I still found myself enjoying it and found myself getting lost in the pages. James and Sophie definitely blew hot. The romance wasn't really there but I was still rooting for the two of them to ride off into the sunset together. I also really liked how the author tied in previous beloved characters into the story without taking away from the main ones. This was definitely something different from this author but I think she made it into a success.
Release: 09.25.2018 Genre: Western Contemporary Romance Dual POV - 1st person Heat: 3.5 Standalone - Bennett Boys Ranch #1
Sophie has plans that include the summer interning for the local vet and then off to veterinary school in the fall. Nowhere in her plans is there a place blocked out for a wild bull riding cowboy. But after a rather rough start, she finds herself spending plenty of time with James as he helps out on his family’s ranch until he returns to the rodeo circuit in a few months. Neither are looking for more than a summer fling but sometimes fate has other things in store.
This was a relatively low drama read with the conflicts this couple face pretty low angst and quickly dealt with. While I enjoyed both of these characters, sometimes their intimate moments were a bit cheesy and overdone with the cowboy-isms. They were still hot as heck but I quickly started skimming every time they started all the silly talk/play in the bed or wherever else they found themselves. This is a total me thing as I can only handle a few scenes such as that and this book exceeded my limitations. Nevertheless, there’s enough steamy moments that there was still plenty left for me to read all the way through.
I liked the way this couple worked out their concerns in a completely adult manner and other than a little blip of insecurity, they never allowed them to come between them. This story also sets up what I assume to be the background for future books and what may be some additional conflict for the other Bennett brothers. It is well written, has a pretty good pace that was never repetitive, other than those pesky cowboy-isms, and was rounded out with a very nice epilogue.
Overall, if you enjoy cowboys, country living with momma’s home cooking, and a bit of trouble from someone who wants all the land to themselves, I would totally recommend this.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and Montlake. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
James and his brothers are hot. James comes home from the rodeo circuit after their dad dies. Sophie is in town for the summer working with the local vet before going to vet school in the fall. He's having issues about returning to the circuit and "abandoning" his family and falling in love with someone who will be leaving. She knows she has to go to school, and falling in love was never part of the plan. In the end love conquers all.
ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first Lauren Landish book, but it won’t be my last. I really enjoyed this one, and loved watching these characters get to know each other. James and Sophie are adorable together.
Right from the start, you’re hooked on these two, as their initial meeting is quite interesting. Throw in James awesome family, the fabulous Doc that Sophie works with, and later on in the novel, her new friend Shayanne, and this is a really nice and easy read.
There’s some angst and tension where its needed, and it keeps you on edge a little, but its not over the top, and works well with the story. Also, it’s just plain hot in the sexy time scenes. I love the way both main characters are quite down to earth, and they're also both understanding and hardworking.
These two have a great relationship that you’re determined to see how they will make it work, and if in the end, they really can be together seriously, instead of just a summer fling.
The secondary characters in this are just as great as the main characters, and I really look forward to reading the rest of this series. I’m assuming we will get James brothers books next, but I would also like to see Shayanne get a book too. The Bennett world and surrounds is very interesting, so I’ll be looking forward to what is to come!
It’s never a good sign when a book takes me more than three days to read. And this one took me seven.
Things this book had going for it: ~Excellent, realistic, witty dialogue - James and Sophie were funny together ~Fun banter between the brothers - there’s nothing better than watching brothers give each other crap ~Open communication between the hero and heroine - there was no being coy or hiding feelings, and once they figured out how they felt they, told each other...hooray! ~A hero who wasn’t stupid in his behavior towards the heroine - okay, he took a little time away when feelings got stronger than he was expecting, but he didn’t do anything drastic like ignore her or push her away...thank goodness! ~A summer-fling relationship and main characters who didn’t spend the whole time moping about how the other doesn’t want to be with them past the time they’ve decided to be together - James and Sophie had a good time together and didn’t brood about the future
What this book didn’t have going for it: ~A compelling plot
This was a nice story, but there really wasn’t much to it. James and Sophie meet. They start out thinking the other is a jerk, but those opinions were changed the next day. They spend time together (a lot of it steamy), there’s this random plot about the neighbor trying to buy their land (and maybe cutting the wire on their fence) that doesn’t really go anywhere, and made me think it is setting up a storyline for a future book in the series.
There’s no real conflict in this book at all. James has some decisions to make about his future - outside of his relationship with Sophie - but he has a good talk with his mama and everything is straightened out in his head. Which was actually very refreshing. It’s nice to see a family that isn’t majorly dysfunctional!
So once again, I find myself conflicted about a book’s rating and my review. And like last time, just because a book stays away from the things that annoy me, doesn’t mean a I’m going to like it. The fact it took me so long to read Buck Wild is telling, mostly that it was okay but failed to keep me engaged. Fun characters and good dialog aren’t always enough. I need more, and this book didn’t it deliver for me.

Buck Wild was my first from Landish and I enjoyed it quite a bit.
The Gist:
Lordy these two got off to an unfortunate start. That hottie cowboy put his boots way in his mouth right quick. But thankfully James did make up for it and proved he was a pretty great guy. A little cheeky and "wild" but good at heart and pretty swoon worthy. And Sophie was a nice heroine. Ambitious and determined. She's a hard worker and quite sweet.
Their romance was pretty easy once they got past that holy hell that was not good moment there at the start. No major drama after that and they just suited each other nicely.
It was a nice easy read. Had some steam but ew yall use a fucking condom will ya? Especially with them both having some questionable sexual pasts and his including buckle bunnies all over the country. I mean come on. A week after meeting and they're fucking like crazy sans condoms. ::shudders:: Other than that I liked the set up with the brothers and their ranch. They're a family with heart, passion and some interesting quirks.
*I received this for from from NetGalley for free in return for an honest review.*
I wasn't that much of a fan, to be honest. While it wasn't downright awful, I expected better quality from a romance novel. Written in first person POV from Sophie and James, this read like a YA novel. James(who's supposed to be a badass Alpha man) said the word "totally" way too much for me. In other words, none of the characters seemed to act or talk their age. I also felt that this novel was driven more by dialogue than action.
I didn't feel the romance between these two. It wasn't love at first sight, it was lust at first sight, which was not my style.
honestly, the beginning of the book to about 60ish% was a 2. i felt no chemistry between james and sophie at all. also, she humped him until he finished the second time she met him. like girl what.
60% to the end was about a 3.5. it was definitely better and actually felt the chemistry between the two characters. it was cute.
also how are you going to say the main character is a bull rider yet the only time he rides a bull is in the epilogue? 🙃
Cowboy romances are my secret crack, I just love them, there is something about a heart-warming, sexy cowboy falling in love. Buck Wild, is fun, sexy and basically everything we all love in a cute romance. Perfect summer, beach read. Little to no drama, and I really appreciated that, this is the first book from this author that I have read and I defiantly would like to read more.
Characters H-James 5 stars, I loved his wild side, it made him that more sexier to me.
h- Sophie 5 stars, was so down to earth, even with the way she grew up. I think that was my favorite thing about her.
Parts I loved •These two were so cute together. Trying not to fall in love, but man they feal hard. •I loved seeing all the brothers together, and their mom was amazing. •I loved how they talked things through, I’m getting so sick of couples hiding their feelings for each other.
My first book from Lauren Landish. It was highly anticipated and VERY highly rated here. The farm and brothers series' always call to me. But this one was just OK. And maybe this was a downside to my enjoyment because the brother part was pretty light...meaning not much brotherly banter and ribbing.
I can see how readers enjoy this "beach type read" because it is truly just one of those "fun and sexy" stories where guy and girl meet, decide to have a fling, no strings, ends at this date.....so instead of an actual storyline or any type of build up they just sleep together 1,000 times, pretty much every chance they see each other - car, alley, on a back road, in the barn......and then somehow they catch feelings even though they have never really had a real conversation until they say I love you! My reading bar is just a little higher than this one. But like I said good for a quickie!
Sophie is a Vet intern who is doing her internship with a small town vet. When they go to a ranch to help with the birth of a foal she meets hunky pro bull rider James Bennett. James was a total prick when they first meet but their second meeting goes much smother.
This was a little too insta lust/like/love for my taste but boy was their chemistry HOT!! These two were like Bunnies and did it everywhere.
Saying that, they still managed to go on nice dates and do work around the ranch.
Overall this was a sweet romance with some hot scenes BUT that's about it, not much of anything happened. I do need more in a plot to hold my interest.
I liked the premise of James and Sophie’s story as the rodeo star and third Bennett son is intrigued by the feisty beauty who confronts him when he questions her skills during a difficult equine birth on his ranch. I loved the beautiful descriptions of the thousand acre Bennett ranch, the close knit and loving relationship between the grieving members of the Bennett family, and the sweet father/daughter mentoring relationship between Sophie and elder veterinarian Doc Jones. Engaging in a hormone heavy summer long fling, the sexual connection between Sophie and James is super spicy and I liked the exploration of their growing emotional intimacy but I started skimming through the sexual scenes half way through the book. The author told me how very much in love they were but the sex scenes didn’t lead to the intense emotional connection that would have been much more satisfying. I’m a big fan of emotional upheaval and compelling storytelling and while the story is pleasant and titillating it fell short for me.
5 Stars Review by Leah Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog
City girl meets her Cowboy. A wild ride of country charm meets sassy city. Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Lauren Landish paints a down-home country love story in Buck Wild. The summer every girl dreams about, well I did, okay still kind of do shhhh.
After getting her bachelor’s degree Sophia Stone moved to small town Great Falls interning with a local Vet for the summer before heading to Veterinarian school. Growing up in the city, Sophia didn't expect to become a Vet but a twist of fate has her sitting in the passenger’s seat of an old GMC truck heading down a dirt road to a house call at the Bennett’s ranch. In walks in the tall drink of water of James Bennett and first impressions are not always the best in stressful situations.
James Bennett lives his life 8 seconds at a time, one rodeo to the next is now back home helping out at the family ranch for the summer. The rodeo has been his life since he was able to ride. Bull riding is his first love after his momma, a southern boy charm with a little wild side. All the flash and lights from being a professional bull rider over the years have not change James Bennett’s country charm. A down-home cowboy who likes living on the edge, riding bulls, living life to its fullest, that is until he meets up with a saucy, take nothing from anyone, Sophia Stone.
But James is soon to learn that Sophia will give him a ride for his money. This city girl keeps her Cowboy on his toes and oh does he love it. He may have even met his match. From hot and steamy Outlook Point to behind the barn, James and Sophia raise the temperature in Great Falls. As the summer comes to a close James and Sophia have to decide what is next? Is this just a summer fun or something else? But you know how all the best-laid plans go?
Lauren Landish really brought it home for me growing up in the country. This story captures the sweet country charm with a little wild side that every woman dreams of in her “Cowboy”. It's just an all-around country love song, one of those stories with all the "feels". Glad I already live on a dirt road in a small town with my Cowboy or I would be packing up. I will admit the end was a little-and I say a little because its just a smidge-drawn out but it is a sweet love story with a HEA.
2.5 stars rounded up to 3 because It's not you, it's me. We all have those times where despite everything seeming to be fine with the book a reader just can't become involved with it.. This was it for me.
Available to read and listen via Kindle Unlimited. I chose to listen to the book. We have dual narrators for this as there is our MMC and FMC POV. Honestly, looking back I can't find anything that just really sticks out as being wrong with the book for me to call attention to. It ended up being a pretty sweet story and the narrators, I felt, did a pretty good job. It really was just a tad lackluster? to me. Really straight forward plot with no twists or turns. I liked all the characters, they all seemed really well rounded. The MMC might have come across a little too in the stereotype of bull rider/rancher but I thought it worked well for the story. Yea, all that said and I'm not really sure why the book seemed a little meh to me. *cringes irl* The plot itself did seem a little drug out for the lack of things actually happening. Alright I'll just say it.. I was a tad bored. Don't hate me!
James, our MMC and famous bull rider, is "home on the range" after his father's passing to help his family out with the ranch. Sophie, FMC and vet assistant, makes a visit out to the James family's ranch with the local vet to help with a foal being born. Sophie is going to school to be a vet and wants no man to come in the way of her dreams. James isn't looking for anything more than really short term because there is hardly anything he likes more than riding bulls. When they meet sparks fly and there is some instant animosity as well as attraction. Putting that aside pretty quick they have a whirlwind summer romance but unfortunately it looks like all good things must come to an end so they each can pursue their dreams. If only there was a compromise..
So I'm thinking this book was just a little drawn out and could have been narrowed down to more short story length and I might have enjoyed it a little more. I do really like this author and this one book not quite reeling me in won't effect me picking up another of her books because honestly there really wasn't anything wrong with this one. Just one of those days...
Alright, y'all. Buckle up. This one was a bumpy ride.
Okay sorry I just wanted to get all those puns out of the way off the bat. When I bought this book, I knew it wasn't for me. I'm definitely not the target audience. I bought it as a birthday gift for my best friend, because we always joke about starting an erotica book club, and we go to a university that is famous for its agriculture program (which basically means every boy at our school is a cowboy. no not the hot kind).
Despite not being the target audience, I did read and annotate this book, and so I feel my reviewing it is justified. I had a lot of fun with it (and my friend really loved it as a gift), but I also don't think it was very good. The plot wasn't a plot, and the romance didn't have enough conflict to excuse that. There's family drama that gets dropped in the middle, but this is a series so its likely that will be brought up again. The main man is a bull rider, which is a large part of the marketing, but we don't get to see any of it until the epilogue. If you like dirty talk this book is definitely for you, but being someone who absolutely hates it I did not have fun. The characters were very flat, more so the guy than the girl, and I really wanted them to have more conflict. From page 30 onwards they're technically together, and they stay together the whole time. It felt like reading the way too explicit version of how someone's parents met. Where's the stakes?
I don't want people to take this review as me hating on adult romances, specifically ones with shirtless men on the cover. I love me a romance with a shirtless man of the cover, okay? But I do think this one had a lot of room for improvement.
3 Stars. I’m usually a fan of Lauren Landish’s but this one fell flat for me. Though I really liked the two main characters the story was just slightly boring and moved at a very slow pace without much happening. Sophie is a Veterinarian student who is interning with a small town doctor for the summer. Her very first ride along is to a farm owned by the Bennett brothers. James is immediately an a$$ to Sophie when he doesn’t believe she can handle the difficult birth of a horse calf and Sophie snaps right back at him. Sophie being one to stand up for herself was my favorite part of this book, she’s definitely a fierce and independent character and I really liked her. We do get quite a bit of steam from this story and James and Sophie definitely have chemistry. All in all this isn’t a bad read, I just found the brothers a bit immature and I don’t think I’ll be reading more from this particular series.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
James gives his girl the utmost compliments, “eff, Sophie, I don’t think I’ve dry humped a girl since high school. But darn, I don’t think it was that good, even back then.” Sophie likes to sass her man, “you think you’re getting some action after telling me I smell like ****?” There are times James likes to do right by his woman, I’m effing you in a bed like a proper effing gentleman.” I liked this book, I loved James and I can't wait to see what kind of women bring his brothers to their knees.
