Just one caveat on this one - it says God forgives us when we sin...but doesn't mention anything about repentance or being sorry in that process, which is a pretty important and unfortunate part to omit. However, repentance does happen in the story on a couple ends. The reading level on this one is a bit easier too. It's not as wordy as the others in the series, so younger readers could read it on their own.

This is a sweet book for preschoolers, ages 3-6, with an important message about forgiving. It is Brother Bear's birthday and he is thrilled to receive a brand new bike. When Cousin Fred admires it, Brother Bear says he can ride it anytime. Cousin Fred takes the bike and crashes it while Brother and Sister are playing a video game. Sister Bear, and a "forgiving tree" help Brother to forgive Cousin Fred. I would like to read this book in my classroom when we are learning about sharing and taking care of things and forgiving people who hurt us. Preschoolers can relate to having a birthday party and being excited about a new present. They have also experienced times when accidents have happened or toys have been broken. This edition has a page at the end with extension suggestions, such as drawing a forgiving tree, that children can add "I'm sorry" leaves to.

Great book
Since my son started reading books from Barenstain, he is getting into a habit to get more alike books. Each book always has something to think about it and discuss. That is gredt

Sweet book for little ones
Simple yet deep enough for little ones (pre-k and up) to understand. Love the message of Bearenstein Bears books for all these years.

My 21-month-old loves this one because of the birthday party, but it is bugging me. Sister’s memory of their fight in the tree house didn’t have anything to do with forgiveness. Why is it called the Forgiving Tree? I always end up skipping the last few overly didactic pages. They seem like a gratuitous addition anyway.

When kids are starting school they are learning their teacher, their fellow students and what their expectations are. It can be new and will be different from home and with that they need to know how to forgive one another. This is a great lesson and should be taught in their homes but it is a crucial part in their learning to work with others at school. Accidents happen and kids may accidently break something or say something that will hurt your feelings but forgiving is key. This book is a greast book to read on the first day of school and then leave on the shelf in case one day someone may need to refresh themselves on forgivness. I love the Berenstain Bears books! They have great life lessons that are easy to understand.

This book is not only good for children to learn about forgiveness, but also for adults to remember that something that seems like a big deal in the moment, may not actually be a big deal in the larger scheme of things. It is one of the more enjoyable books in the Berenstain Bears series, in my opinion. The book not only provides an opportunity for children to learn about forgiving others, it also provides a good opportunity for children to put themselves in the place of the person who is being forgiven. An excellent book to read with children and discuss the importance of forgiveness with them.

I absolutely loved the message in this book. This book is great for students to really bring in character building. I feel like from K-5, they are really growing to develop what it means to share, and work out problems with others. This book is all about forgiveness, and one of the brothers really seeing where he was selfish and mean to his other brother. By the end of the story, they both forgave each other, and really saw how he was being selfish. Great book!

My eight-year-old grandson called this morning and read me The Forgiving Tree over the phone. What a pleasure to hear the story unfold that way! I did foresee the damage to Brother Bear's brand new birthday bike, but Sister's words of wisdom were a surprise. With plenty of color and action, gentle storylines and age-appropriate teaching, the Living Lights series is ideal for my grandson--and, I'm sure, for many other young readers.

My cousin didn't get as excited about this one as the others, but she's really enjoying herself with these stories. She keeps asking me to read them over and over. So excited that I got to show her these and experience them first hand with her!

Here we see the Bears at their best. The cubs fight - but they show growth and maturity in settling things themselves. I love the idea of the Forgiving Tree, and found this book sweet, without being preachy at all. A nice story.

cute book on forgiveness, although I couldn't read all of it at school, since it talked about God. :(
