After five years of hard work, dedication, and too many sacrifices, Lara thought she had made progress in bringing what remained of humanity together in her small part of the world. She also thought they had seen the last of the ghouls as a major threat.
She was wrong on both counts.
An unnatural alliance between two enemies, forged in secrecy, has finally been revealed. With Keo away on a mission, the real threat is at the gates, leaving Lara, Gaby, and a city full of civilians unprepared for a long and relentless night of fighting.
The survivors thought the worst of times were behind them, but they were mistaken. Fenton was always just another front in a secret war that Gaby and Lara didn’t know they were still fighting. Before the night is over, they will discover that the only thing more powerful than hope is vengeance.
In Black, the fifth book in the Road to Babylon series, it’s all-out war, and no one will be safe.
Beware of spoilers below: This book is a battle, the whole thing. The ghouls are back with a force. Lara wasn't ready. Gaby wasn't ready. I sure hope Keo kills Buck and the powers. After all the fighting in this book, the ending really slapped me. I wasn't prepared for Gaby. I mean, jeesh… I still miss Will.
I kept saying I have to slow down...I have to stop reading so quickly....but this book would not let me. What a really good book. I couldn't stop reading even tho I tried to save this for a little longer. When I get a really excellent book I try to savor it like a fine wine. But sometimes like an alcoholic, I just can't stop. Gaby and Lara and friends are up against Mercinarians and ghouls in a fight for life. One night of hell on Earth. If you're following this series don't miss this book. It's a must read. That's all I'm saying cause I don't want to spoil the fun ride this book gives you. Have fun!
Love this series and yes I realize it is war, but I am at a loss for words at the ending. The battle came to Lara and Black Tides was not prepared. Leo warned them, but after five successful years Black Tide believed they were stronger and the ghoul threat was gone. What a battle, non-stop action, very well written but at the end my heart grieves as much as it did losing Will. This book is the epitome of "It gets darker before the dawn" please hurry with the next one my grieving heart needs it soon!
Really enjoying this series. Got hooked after the Purge of Babylon series and the way the author developed the characters and story. In this series there are some familiar faces and we get to see what has happened in the years since. In this particular book, there was a lot of focus on Gaby's character and her growth and it left in a place where you feel like you HAVE to keep reading to find out what happened. In a good way. The story is paced well and it's a very interesting tale. Can't wait to get started on book #6.
This book is just what the series needed, if you have read the others you know what to expect and if you havent i cant recommend all the books by Sam enough. As long as you can put some of the terrible injurys suffered by the "heros" aside (they seem to be able to take pain killers and feel no effects from being shot)
I love a good zombie read but Sam has taken it to a whole different level ....the ghoul chronicles rock....all of them....2 years ago a coworker told me about this book with ghouls and two SWAT guys with silver knives....I have absolutely enjoyed every page since. THANK YOU SAM!!!
The story was pretty great all able Gaby and a few new characters in a battle with The Blue Eye Ghoul. Great new character development and plenty of action from start to finish. I can't wait to read the next one. It's time to purchase it. Enjoy
Weakest of the series. Reads like it was written in hurry with a lot repetition. I thought the ending could have been better in that I would have liked to have experienced Lara's reaction as and when she realized what had just happened. A real lost opportunity by the author to further build on Lara's character and give the reader a better sense of closure.
There isn't anything I can say at the moment without giving away the story. Maybe this was even too much. What I will say is read it. Probably the best of the series so far, and I've loved all of them. Sisavath, you are outstanding!
I can't review this book right now as I just finished it and I need some recovery time. As expected, it was a heckuva ride! But did you REALLY have to do that at the end?
I love this series. it keeps my gut just as twisted as the plot. I love the humor that is always going on in the background no matter how terrifying the action is. and the heart wrench as bad things happen. fabulous read yet again
I am so happy to have another book in the Babylon series. I am sorry we lost one of our great characters. Looking forward to more. I wish they were so much longer. Fast paced, very exciting page turner.
I love Sam Sisavath and his books! They are unbelievable but it is fiction. I hope this book didn't end the way I think it did. However, it means another book coming. Yeah!!!
But then it wouldn't be realistic if these wonderful heros ALL lived. If I could change one thing...I want to hear more about Danny, and his son. And I hope some day Keo and Lara finally get to...
Another great entry in this long running series. I find the books that revolve around Keo are the strongest in the series but this one was certainly one long action sequence that takes place over a single evening. Fun read.
Could not put it down. I can’t wait for the next one. It was continuous action and it definitely caused a night of little sleep. If you have been reading this series I don’t have to tell you how good it is and this book is even better.
Probably the biggest battle of the series, out doing the battle under Houston at the end of the first series. Not a spoiler alert but, man, the ending s rough! Great series, enjoy!
I have bad lungs Sam. Slow down!!! Right from Gaby saying " We're not ready for this" the book does not slow down til the last sentence. Great book from a great writer. The best writer in this genre bar none.
I can't say much because I don't want to leave a spoiler, but I will say that I am so immersed in the characters of this story that it is all I can do to keep typing. Do yourself a favor and try this series, it is definitely a winner.
Given the series this series follows, the excitement ginned up in the telling just doesn't end. The edge of my seat is sorely worn as I conclude this book, and start book six!!!!
I enjoyed the entire series but did not like the way Black ended I guess I think there could be an after book or new beginning maybe not as interesting but
