A detailed account of how Leo the red fish, is born and grows up in a Japanese fish farm. He is transported several times - to a central auction, then a retail shop, and on to a Quartier Fete, where Nanami, a little girl spots him. When Leo stops swimming for a single second she is able to scoop him up and take him home to a fish tank, which is to be his permanent home.

The drawings have a limited colour palette but are clear and focus on the details of the pet fish production process, which is quite interesting. There are lots of new French words, which are easily understood because of the drawings, often with arrows. At the same time, there is an incredible amount of respect for the little fish - at each stage, he is carefully arrowed and labelled - Leo!

My reading companion Leo, thought that this was another 11 1/2 out of 10, because of it's surprisingly sensitive portrayal of a little fish's journey to it's loving owner.
