The injured women in the bed, Emerald, had been poisoned with lead. Dana could smell it on her and he wondered why Danburn hadn’t. With Danburn being the king of the dragons he should have been able to smell it right off, or at least Dana thought so anyway. With the woman’s surly temper Dana should have left her there to suffer alone, but he could smell his mate on her. Since Em was an emerald dragon he deduced that his mate must be another gem to compliment his diamond.
Sapphire had been summoned with the rest of her sisters, Ruby and Opal, to Em’s side. The young girl, Carmine had powerful magic that could extract the lead from Em, but she wasn’t strong enough to get it all out on her own. The sisters would have to combine their magic with Carmine’s or Em wouldn’t survive.
Sapphire knew instantly that Dana was her mate and she wasn’t thrilled about it either. She and her sisters had been around for thousands of years, why did a mate have to muddy the waters now?
Dana wanted to take it slow. They had the rest of their lives to get to know each other. He wanted to court her and ease into the relationship. They were both immortal, so time was on their side, right? Melville James had other ideas. If he couldn’t have the emerald dragon he’d just take the sapphire. After all, her mate hadn’t claimed her yet, and by dragon law that made her easy pickings.

At first, when I read the title, I automatically thought this would be a female. Boy, was I wrong? Dana is one of Danburn's friends that had been invited and come for the holidays. He'd no more than arrived when he met a woman who'd come to the castle that spelled of his mate. She wasn't it, of course, but she had been close to her. Dana was a diamond dragon, not as large as Danburn, but was powerful in his own right. Of all the dragon men, Dana was the most romantic. The woman, Em, was an Emerald dragon, and apparently, she'd been hurt by a human wanting her gems. The iron shiv had been stabbed into her leg. There are several villains in this story, all of which trying to either steal the gem dragons or Carmine plus a young man by the name of Mel. Ms. Barton has woven an exciting tale of romance and chemistry, although not blatant, around a storyline of a town being rebuilt. This was such an easy book to get lost in with all the magic.
Dana, a diamond dragon, is visiting his friend, Danburn, when an injured woman is discovered. Upon visiting her, Dana knows instantly she isn't his mate, but someone close to her is. When the woman, Emerald's, sisters arrive, Dana meets his mate, Sapphire. With help, the group is able to save Emerald and the four sisters stay.
Sapphire, a sapphire dragon, has lived for many years. She, Emerald, and their other sisters, Ruby and Opal, have been tasked with delivering the gems matching their names for others to enjoy. Sapphire isn't exactly thrilled with discovering her mate, but thankfully that changes as she and Dana get to know one another.
Dana and Sapphire agree to take their courtship slowly as they have nothing but time being what they are, however, they not have that luxury after all as someone else wants what the four sisters can provide and that person doesn't care what the women want, which one they get, nor if they've found their mate.
Can Dana keep Sapphire and her sisters safe? Will Dana and Sapphire be given the chance to mate? Or will the obstacle in their way prove to difficult to defeat? Is a HEA possible?

I really like this series but have to say that this was my least favorite book so far. Dana and Sapphire were both unique characters but even though they were mates they just didn't seem like the right fit. Sapphire was outgoing, had a crazy bunch of sisters, intense powers and purpose and a big heart. She jumped right in to help make changes to help the town and people even if it stepped on the Dragon kings toes. Dana was an old dragon, quiet, protective, also has intense powers but he seemed to good to be true. I guess because of this he did not seem very three dimensional or real to me and I had a hard time connecting to his character. The villain in this storyline seemed to come out of no where, made demands he should not have been able too and had the Dragon King off his game. I wish there would have been a little more back story to explain how he and Danburn knew each other. There was a lot of interesting information provided in the storyline, quite a bit of drama relating to other characters and an awesome introduction to the next story in the series. I would give this story a 3.5 star rating. I always enjoy reading Ms. Barton's stories and look forward to the next adventure. I volunteered to read this story for my honest opinion.
I can't get enough of this series. it is so full of fantasy. it gots everything a fantasy romance lover would want to read. Dana is a really cool Dragon and his mate is not the one I thought it would be in the last book. I know every book is about one couple but in my opinion till now all books are really about Carmine she amazes me every time in every book. can't wait for the next book in this series I can honestly say that this is my favorite series that kathi s barton is writing at the moment. With every new book the series is becoming better and better.
I volunteered to review this story for my honest opinion
There’s definitely not a thing erotic about this book nor were there many sex scenes; but, the good vs bad plot was very good.
Dana is a Diamond Dragon in that all he makes are diamonds when he cries. He also creates jewelry or sculptures with jewels on them.
Sapphire & her sisters, Emerald, Ruby & Opal are like Dana in that whenever they cry they just cry their namesake. A least that is until Sapphire finds her mate in Dana.
But, you’ll have to read the book to find out what kind of jewels they cry & if you agree with me about the book’s plot.
Dana finds his mate in Sapphire. Sister to the Emerald dragon. Like her sister she has a strong and abrasive personality. Dana's easy going personality, soon wins her over. The man hunting Emerald has made his way to town and is causing headaches for everyone, including his own son. Sapphire has things well in hand. A fun, fast paced, a little steamy, story. Looking forward to Griff's story.
I really like these books but honestly they're not Erotic. They have one sometimes two steamy scenes and they are not that steamy anymore. So don't go into these books thinking that they're erotic. They do have good story lines and great characters.
Kathi S Barton writes the most fascinating and riveting stories!
I absolutely love reading artfully series that Kathi writes! I love going on the journey with the characters and experience their adventures to find true love and happiness!
This is probably my least favorite of the English Dragon series. I guess it felt like it was too much story, but at the same time, not enough.
Dana and Sapphire are dragons who are thousands of years old. They know that mating is inevitable, especially when you find your one. But instead of cementing their bond, they decide to date and get to know each other first since times is something these two immortals seem to have plenty of. I don't understand how the villain of the story had any ground to stand on when it came to petitioning for Sapphire, since she wasn't claimed by her mate. I also wanted to know more about why he was able to do all this, especially considering he's not a dragon, and had Danburn (who is the king of dragons might I add) scared... Unlike some of other Kathi's characters, I didn't feel the connection between Dana and Sapphire. It seemed like they came together because they had to and decided they loved each other because they're destined to be each other's mates.
All in all, this book fell short for me. On a brighter note, I can't wait to read about Griffith and his brother and mate.
