Regardless of your record as a driver, everyone speeds sometimes. You are on the open road, no one around for miles, and so you step on the gas pedal. Then you experience a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach -- and in your wallet -- when you see a flashing red light in the rearview mirror. Now you can ease on down the road without paying the high price of traffic tickets, inflated insurance premiums and expensive lawyer's fees. Former New York State Trooper James M. Eagan tells you how-with invaluable tips and trade secrets that the police don't want you to know.

A light, somewhat entertaining summer read shortly before a road trip. It contains a very interesting anecdotes from the author's long career in the state police, as well as a few common-sense tips on how to interact with a police officer when pulled over. The obvious advice - just don't drive excessively fast - is left out. The author goes out of his way to explain tactics for many different people (men, women) and situations (small cars, 18 wheelers). I'm surprised, however, that he made no mention of being pulled over as an out of state driver.

My mom's husband gave this to me after I lost my license for 9 tickets in two years in Massachusetts. I have gotten one ticket since then. ;-)
